  1. I'm referring to the fact that they are paid for a 6 month regular season with 1.5 months of practice beforehand and 1 month of playoffs after. They aren't going to give a crap about such a series. They might play if they get paid, but it won't come close to the intensity of the actual world series. It will be viewed as punishment for winning.
  2. I'd hope it would be taken seriously, and if it isn't at first, I guarantee it would be after the first time the Japan champ defeats the MLB champ in a Global World Series. I doubt that. It's not that easy to manufacture interest in such a game. These guys get paid to play 6 months of regular season baseball, with a little bonus if they play another month, and they do it for free for 1.5 months to start out. The World Series is the pinnacle of their careers. Winning it is what it's all about, once you get past the money. And it drains them. You've got pitchers going on short rest, sometimes your ace throwing from the bullpen in game 7. You win, and then all of a sudden you have to play another series halfway around the globe? How are they going to determine where games are played? Cold weather teams struggle to get games in during late October early November already.
  3. 1000 of those are him calling me ridiculous. :P That's absurd.
  4. me, too. but not as a backup. he'd be great to split carries 50/50. With Forte, go ahead and give him 60/40 if you want.
  5. I like Pierre Thomas.
  6. At least you admit you have to close your eyes and hope to dismiss that concern. As to what the "point" is, obviously they don't need a veteran reliever, which was the question.
  7. Well I'm not suggested they go get anyone they can get their hands on. Someone like Calero wouldn't be unwarranted getting a short extension if they put up a strong 2010. A 35 year old who has had marginal success in his career would be worthy of a extension? A reliever with historically strong peripherals coming off of consecutive great seasons wouldn't be a terrible candidate for an extension. But a mythical extension is beside the point really. Well, if we're worried about assumed yoyoing of a young guy I don't see why we can't be worried about unwarranted extensions for an old reliever. And you certainly don't need great seasons to get those from the Cubs.
  8. There are some decent options in Free Agency. I think we can get a RB there and go with Forte, FA, and Bell. RB is a young man's position though. I'd much rather find a guard in free agency than a RB, although if that's where they can find a guy, fine.
  9. Sure it's a difference maker, especially multiple ones. You're talking about an OC of a good offensive ballclub coming off a super bowl win, and a bad quarterback who was putting up unprecedently bad performances coming off a flukish all defense no offense decent season that went to crap in one playoff game. That may have been the most fun season for you, but Pittsburgh fans don't even have fun watching their teams actually win Super Bowls.
  10. They might have to look into RB before the 7th round.

  12. Keep in mind both of those games, I believe, have been in San Diego. This game would be in Indianapolis. In what's been pretty competitive games, that could slide the advantage toward the Colts. Last year was SD, the year before was in Indy.
  13. Is this because you don't want him in the pen or because you think it's too early and/or you want to preserve the Cubs control over him? Mainly, I don't want him getting the treatment of bouncing back and forth between pen and starting. If the Cubs decide he's going to be a reliever from now on, fine, call him up whenever. But if they're going to have him start in the minors, then I don't want him bouncing around. Because you don't believe in introducing a guy as a reliever at first, or because you don't think he'll get the necessary innings?
  14. Is this because you don't want him in the pen or because you think it's too early and/or you want to preserve the Cubs control over him? For me it's a little of both. If there's a decent deal on a reliever for 1 year, I'd go for it. Nothing lost really. Unless that guy is Grabow 2.0 and he gets an unwarrented extension.

  16. It's hard to say. College OC is not necessarily a direct route to NFL OC. After a few years as an NFL offensive assistant and one year as a college OC, QB coach on a team desperate for somebody to develop their star QB might be the best option to be a OC within a year or two, and possibly head coach even sooner. Unless he's getting a lot of calls from other teams for OC, this might be his best option. maybe offer him an assistant head coach/qb coach position like tampa did with marinelli. You could, but Marinelli is asst head coach with the Bears already, and that could be weird with whoever the OC is. That worked in Tampa because Kiffin was obviously only going to ever be a DC.
  17. I'm not sure he has closer stuff, his biggest issues is probably that he doesn't miss bats.

  19. On one hand it makes me sick that we're getting another guy who is just a Lovie guy. I really don't see him as a Lovie guy. Lovie guys are all defensive coaches in love with the Tampa 2. Martz was in STL long before Lovie was, and if anything, Lovie is a Martz guy, as he was his defensive coordinator in STL. I don't even consider Turner a Lovie guy, as he was basically an autonomous CEO of the offense. I'm not sure how much stock I put into this report, but I think I'd love to see a situation where a guy like Martz is the OC and that Bates dude is the QB coach.
  20. Yeah, but the Steeler fans I know are really whiny. I wouldn't put all that much stock in that. Fassel's another guy who I would like, but again Bears probably can't lure him here for just a season. They'd need to lay some kind of post-Lovie scenario on the table. And if you do that, you're saying Lovie's gone. That's not what I heard yesterday. Bears fans aren't? It's really not even close. Or at least, the justification for the whining isn't close. Pittsburgh just won a Super Bowl, and they won another not too long ago. Yet their fans have been whining all year about a myriad of topics.
  21. tassel coached xfl jr this year, he will take what he can get. And nobody is going to assume it's just one year. If they do well lovie will be back, if just the off does well the oc will be prime hc candidate.
  22. Gilbert Arenas suspended indefinitely, not sure what took the lawyers so long to okay that one.
  23. PFT says they fired the O Line coach, but are keeping Arian after all. Apparently ESPN Radio Pittsburgh spread some bad info. Bummer, one of the reports was that he was making fun of Tomlin behind his back, which is something I love to picture.
