  1. I think George is using the interviews as much for learning about the game as he is learning about the candidates. I think they were dead set on interviewing a ton of candidates, and especially multiple minority candidates. I do not think that a bunch of interviews means Harbaugh is unrealistic. I do think the 10/100m contract to hire him is the bigger obstacle.
  2. This is such a tease tweet lol. And turning off the comments so he can get retweet. Bait. nah, its Micheal M putting out feelers to Bear Fans on a Harbaugh hire Mann, Myers or Moore?
  3. Yes, what I wrote was pure guessing. That was the point of the post. Daboll makes sense, but the reason for not going him that would also make sense is what I wrote. We aren't going to hear comments from Daboll saying he doesn't like Fields now. I think given the direction of the NFL and their rules (focused on promoting the passing game and the QB), it doesn't make sense to simply go against hiring a guy like Daboll for a bunch of reasons. The only reason would be if Daboll either didn't like Fields (and there is no proof of that) or he simply wasn't available. All other reasons are pointless overthink, imo Yeah, that's what I wrote.
  4. While in general I understand and agree with what you wrote, so far we haven't heard any disparaging comments from Daboll about Fields (that I've seen anyway) but we have heard/seen reports of Flores and Watson shacking up. As a result, what you wrote is pure guessing, and I tend to think the opposite is more likely to be true: the best bet IS Daboll. It doesn't seem that hard to understand at all. 5. It does seem obvious, with the caveat that maybe he doesn't believe in Fields. If he doesn't, and has made that point relatively clear, does it make sense to have him around as the team essentially tanks 2022 to try and draft a QB in 2023? You're then restocking the team while taking another swing at the position and putting off the next reckoning until ~2026, in that QBs 4th year and presumably Daboll's lame duck season. If you have a coach that is cool on Fields but otherwise seems like the guy who checks your boxes, maybe it makes sense to go defense first, try and hire an OC that gets what you can out of Fields while turning the defense into a powerhouse. If Fields doesn't work out you have confidence the defense will be a strength and maybe you get a Grossman type career out of Fields, good enough to win with but not good enough to win on his own. Use up his 4 remaining control years while drafting QBs each year to replace him and luck into success while treating the QB position like RB. That type of guy presumably is where you'd go with a Flores, Eberflus or Bowles. Daboll makes a ton of sense. McCaskey has said he does not want to narrow the search to a specific type of coach, but I have a feeling what he wants is Lovie 2.0, who was the only guy to have sustained success in the modern era of Bears football. The one thing they have consistently done is go opposite of whatever didn't work last. Lovie's solid defense and inconsistent offense was replaced by a "modern offensive guy" who couldn't lead the team, which led to a defensive oriented solid and stable proven NFL guy. Fox's inability to improve the offense led to them going with a young offensive coordinator. It's going to take a lot for George to double down on young offensive coordinators, and go against his own type by moving to a "solid defensive guy" next.
  6. I think he's perfectly cromulent, but entirely uninspiring. Nagy was actually decent at the head coaching portion of the job. Lovie was the best at getting the most out of the team, but Nagy was right behind him in terms of having his team ready to compete every week. What he sucked at was making his side of the ball work. That and the stupid penalties and time related decisions. Frazier can probably be counted on to make his side of the ball work, but is that really a concern with the Bears? They've vacillated between great and fine, and occasionally dip into below average territory. But by and large, they've kept teams in the game for the better part of two decades. Frazier probably helps this defense improve, but what in his track record suggests he can inspire greatness for the overall team?
  7. I really doubt Frazier is going to happen. This is how it would probably play out if it did, but I see it as more of an irrational worry for me. I won't rest easy until someone else is hired, because Bears, but looking at it objectively, I just don't think he'll come out ahead given this candidate pool and (as you pointed out) how he compares to almost everyone else. I’ve always thought of Frazier as someone who was going to be in it until the end. I don’t remember if it was the Tribune or Athletic that had an article about him recently where Dungy was really praising him. Frazier was on Dungy’s staff with the Colts. We know who hired Dungy. Plus there is his Bears connection. Polian is also why I feel Caldwell is a serious candidate. Polian has already hired him to be a head coach once before. It will be Frazier as head coach and Caldwell as OC. That’s not what I want, but that’s what my gut keeps telling me. Frazier and Caldwell together are 130 years old. You'd almost have to keep Desai on staff just to keep the line of succession in line with the actuarial tables.
  8. I think Frazier has a chance to be an okay rebound coach in his second stint as a head coach, but there are a lot of drawbacks. Obviously there is the fact that he's a defensive coach. But he's also 62 and will be 63 before the draft. That's not terribly old for an entrenched/established head coach, but as far as I can tell it's considerably older than any other coordinator they are looking at. It's 4 years older than both big splash candidates, Payton and Harbaugh. It would almost assuredly be his last job in the league. I do not see it ending well. His best season in Minnesota was 10-6. They were average on both offense and defense. They had Christian Ponder at QB and ran Adrian Peterson 350 times. Ponder was a 1st round QB who flamed out quickly, and they lost double digit games in 2 of his 3 seasons. Nagy has a more impressive head coaching resume than Frazier. His offensive coordinator was Bill Musgrave, who is now out of the NFL, coaching at Cal. Same with the QB coach, who is at Maryland. The assistant QB coach is now head coach of the Browns. I have huge doubts about his ability to bring together a quality offensive staff. My guess is it will be an older staff and they will be a dumbass run the ball team. Montgomery will be run into the ground next season and unable to fulfill his next contract, which will be signed because they have no other offensive weapons.
  9. I've never had the cake shake
  10. The "this isn't a surprise after a terrible interview" response is quite convenient.
  11. I am being as honest as possible saying I’m overly excited about Fields as I was before the draft and after the Bears traded up for him.
  12. Leftwich is now on the docket
  13. Wow, Fields had to be practically decapitated to get a roughing call. It's not just Fields. No QB in the league is treated like Brady except maybe Rodgers. Maybe Rodgers?
  14. McCaskey said he prefers GM first and GM hires coach, correct? Yes, sorry that was worded confusing. McCaskey would prefer GM first. But if they felt they had a coach they loved they would consider. Couldn't say what that circumstance would be but they'd know when they saw it. i took it as, if Harbaugh or Payton was realistic, they’d do it and figure out the GM later. For most candidates they’d rather the GM be the deciding factor.
  15. Most probably do. There are certainly cases where a coach gets hired first. I would say most often it's established former Head Coaches who might get hired before a GM. @PFF_Brad (Twitter handle) had one of those Twitter spaces the other night and talking about league structures indicated that despite what order they were hired in, it's probably close to 50% of teams where the coach is really the top of the football ops. And his personal opinion was he hated that structure. Fow whatever it's worth McCaskey said that was his preference. McCaskey said he prefers GM first and GM hires coach, correct?
  16. What do you think is more likely to happen? Pace gets a pro personnel gig and recommends bringing in Nagy as an offensive assistant. Pace gets a pro personnel gig and signs Trubisky as the backup QB.
  17. Somebody else wrote he signed a 5 year contract with only 2 years guaranteed and it was assumed by many it would be one and done.
