  1. They're losing Hicks and Mack, they obviously had to add a defensive lineman in free agency. And they have plenty of room to focus on offense. In other news they brought in a new co-director of player personnel, Trey Koziol, from KC and previously TEN
  2. He did that twice, in his age 27 and 28 seasons, and hasn't been close in the three seasons since then. He's 32 now and will turn 33 during the season. He also did sign cheaply as a backup, that's what $4m is. Not debating that $4M would be a cheap backup. Debating the "backup" part. There's still a few weeks left. I'm hoping I'm proven wrong. But I'd bet dollars to donuts he came he because he was offered significant playing time. A) This isn't a starting quarterback situation, he's a trash player coming off an awful season and didn't exactly have his pick of the litter. B) He is obviously, and very unfortunately, going to get a lot of playing time because this roster blows and he fits right in. C) There is no way the Cubs promised him they wouldn't sign a better SS to get more playing time than him. That isn't a guarantee you make to a player like Simmons. You say, "here's $4m, you are going to compete with whoever else we scrounge up for playing time." The $4m is enough of a guarantee that he's going to play.
  3. He did miss the playoffs and super bowl last year. Hopefully the foot isn't serious but he's the same age Tommie Harris was when injury ended his eliteness.

  5. Bears signing Cincy DT Larry Ogunjobi
  6. He's 27 years old. How long into his career are they going to take to break him into the concept of pitching a full major league season?
  7. use a different catcher next season
  8. I love that this happened after some bridges were charred following the original announcement. There’s gonna be a trade.
  9. I don’t know why networks pay these guys. Nobody is tuning in for broadcasters. I didn't think I'd disagree with this, but while nobody is tuning in for broadcasters, bad ones can make me more likely to tune out on a national game. i liked gruden's meathead/meatball excited schtick. it was entertaining, if nothing else. watched random MNF more often when he was on than when that awful crew tessitore, witten, booger crew was on. while i hate to admit it, i liked the miller/morgan booth...the sound of it moreso than the content. maybe that's nostalgia, but i know that i enjoyed that broadcast more than i do this awful arod booth, and as such i was more likely to watch non-cubs sunday night baseball games back then. same goes for SNF with madden and michaels over other national booths (including the current NBC SNF one). if it's my team, i don't care if dick stockton is on with arod and mccarver. i'm watching. but with random matchups, i guess it does make a difference for me. Sounds like you liked watching all sports more when you were young and now that you’re turning human I mean older you’ve got other interests that keep you from wasting countless hours watching games that have no interest for you.
  10. I don’t know why networks pay these guys. Nobody is tuning in for broadcasters. Umm, well, that's exactly why they pay them, they're desperate What?

  12. Is there some hidden meaning around the thread title?
  13. It's what, $6m in cap space this year? Then of course it's off the books for next offseason as well. I don't have a problem moving on from him. It was going to happen either this year or next, might as well pull the bandaid. But a 2nd this year, and a 6th next year is barely anything. It allows you to sign a 3rd receiver type. He and Robinson were the two guys I thought most visibly quit on Nagy, FWIW. What do you think we should have gotten for Mack given a couple of down-ish seasons? I think a 2nd and a midround pick is probably his value with the size of his contract. The future 6th rounder not great though. Should have been a 3 or a 4 and preferably in this draft. Couldn't the Bears have thrown in like a 6th round pick to bump the 2nd pick up a few rounds? I would think a late 1st and something later, or a 2nd and 3rd/4th (this year). It's not just that it's a 6th, it's a 2023 6th. I think Poles and Eberflus might have cared.
  14. Interesting to think the newly hired defensive minded head coach most likely signed off on this idea
  15. Yes. The bonuses that were spread out now get lumped into this year.
  16. this doesn't really save money though It's what, $6m in cap space this year? Then of course it's off the books for next offseason as well. I don't have a problem moving on from him. 17. only wear one at weddings and funerals
  18. Chargers 2nd was the 48th overall.
  19. I'm sure kyle is excited, but that's a weak ass haul. If the highest you can get is a 2nd, the next pick has to be better than a 6th 2 drafts from now.
  20. Too many NFT guys on this team already.
  21. I'm on board with banning the shift, but it needs to be something clean/natural. If every player has "zones" or some horsefeathers I'm going to hate it. But 4 men on the dirt and/or two men on each side of second I think is a good sensible solution. Why does it have to be "men"? There used to be nothing in the rule book that says a dog can't play, but now there is, there's your unintended consequences.
  22. defensive restrictions are dumb
