Another promotion from assistant DL coach to Bears DL coach. The HC, DC, and OC were each bumped up from their previous job level to this level. The special teams coordinator was a lateral move. As far as I can tell every filled position is either a promotion or lateral moves. No former head coaches going back to their specialty. No coordinators, college or pro, filling in at a specific position group. The best thing I can say is I believe they are all NFL coaches. I remember Lovie's first staff having a lot of college coaches moving up, and Nagy obviously had the former college coach as his first OC. But this staff is going to have a lot of guys doing their job for the first time and not a lot of experience to lean on. Kind of risky, but the staff seemingly has upside. At a high level it doesn't look like anybody is fastracked to move up the coaching ladder. If Getsy turns Fields into a best right away it could happen, but I assume he'll have to show a few years of success at the OC position before going to HC. Williams is in his 50s. He could be a candidate if the Bears defense is stout, but with Eberflus at the helm how much credit will he get? Maybe a guy like Borgonzi or Rowe would get consideration for a DC role somewhere in a few years. On the offensive side, maybe Janocko could get a look as somebody's OC if Fields develops well. Tolbert is a longtime WR coach in his 50s, not really the type of resume you expect for a guy moving up the ladder, but passing game coordinator is a new role. Can't really say I'm all that impressed with the staff, but maybe that's a good thing that it is just a professional group, and not necessarily filled with flashy names.
