  1. I didn't even think he would be taking any snaps. I figured he'd be more of a longterm project players, in which case missing a week doesn't really matter.
  2. Once again, I understand that it is not binding, but I would say that it is uncommon for a GM to commit to someone beyond the current season and then go another direction. I'm not saying that it can't happen, but the comments that I've read and the opinions of beat reporters and other media members close to the team all indicate that Hendry will be back in 2011. I hope I'm wrong, but all signs still point to a Hendry return. I don't know what a GM committing to somebody has to do with this, but it's not at all uncommon for owners to pay lip service to the future employment of a front office member and then actually making a change when that season ends.
  3. As good as Soto and Castro have been this year, Soriano has the 4th best OPS on the team. He's having a nice season as well. 4th best is no accomplishment, and a low 800's OPS is not nice for Soriano.
  4. I always find it weird when a team releases a guy they just signed. Wonder what led to the Teal move.
  5. I guess what I'm trying to say is that since Theriot is gone, I'm willing to pretend those drawbacks don't exist.
  6. I'm still not a big fan of the move. If Castro develops as he is supposed to, the Cubs cost themselves 7-10 million dollars by bringing him up one month early. That's a tough pill to swallow especially when knowing the 1 month they sacrificed it for came in a meaningless season. I don't think Castro should have been held down for development reasons but the financial difference was too much to ignore. I was against it, but the fact that it facilitated the move of Theriot makes me more than willing to deal with the longer term ramifications.
  7. Well then he should stop fighting it and just move on.
  8. But actually going through with the move could potentially force a player's hand or make them reconsider waiving it.
  9. but hey, niemi is not comfortable playing for a contender, remember? at least, that's how zito was selling him to the hawks. apparently, he thinks there's more job security playing in a smaller market where he can start for the next 10 years without anyone noticing him. THAT'S NOT HOW IT WORKS YOU ASS [expletive] off, man I don't remember reading Zito saying anything like that. If Niemi has trouble dealing with pressure, he has a funny way of showing it. Niemi is a weird duck. And it could just be because of the language barrier, but we have no idea what makes that guy tick. So it could be all Zito. Either way, I'm with Soul, I wish the guy success against everyone but the Hawks. The story was early in the process. It sounded like a negotiating ploy to get the team to not think about hometown discounts, since Niemi's preference would be some small team. As though he had to sacrifice enjoyment to play for a contender that people paid attention to.
  10. Depends on how you define want. You can want to compete next year, but if you don't do about a hundred things to improve the team you aren't going to. If you're significantly upgrading the payroll to save Hendry from himself like they did in 2007, so you can find a real first baseman and other things, then go ahead and keep him. But if you're just going to half ass the effort to get better, there's really no point in hoping Ramirez rebounds.
  11. Yeah, from a we might as well go for it standpoint, you probably aren't winning unless Ramriez is putting up a 900 OPS for the Cubs next year (among many other things). But from an efficiently running the baseball team standpoint, his time of being a useful part of this organization is nearing it's end, and it's quite likely he won't be a part of the next really good Cubs team, so why not pull the band aid, and use that portion of the payroll to invest in something for the future.
  12. Way too many outs, and he's got a sub 500 OPS since the middle of July. Obviously it's not ideal, but in the context of "Is Ramirez close enough to his previous self that we don't give him away for nothing?", I think the answer is pretty easily yes. EDIT: I think you have the recent numbers wrong. Ramirez since July 15: .279/.301/.588/.890 I was just looking at last 14 days on BR.com. I would have no problem letting him go for nothing. He's a liability.
  13. Way too many outs, and he's got a sub 500 OPS since the middle of July.
  14. Agreed. He had a terrible first half, but he's been playing closer to what we'd expect since the ASB. No he hasn't. He played that way for half a month. He's back to a sub 500 OPS the past two weeks.
  15. I really don't get why people don't just understand he's skipping training camp. That's what this has always been about. If he's thinking about retirement both he and the Vikings can justify not making him go while minimizing the "well if he's not going I'm not going" response from teammates.
  16. She's the ho? How exactly? A married man sends her pictures of his dong and she's the bad guy?

  18. http://deadspin.com/5603701/brett-favre-once-sent-me-[expletive]-shots-not-a-love-story this link might not work. But deadspin started running a story last night about a female "we would know" having icky interactions with Favre. A commentator guessed Jenn Sterger, and it turns out this morning that he was right. He may have sent pictures of his junk to her.
  19. It's not a hold out, just a complete avoidance of training camp.
  20. Oh my god you have to be the dumbest person alive. Only southsideryan
  21. can this conversation be split off into something else?
  22. Just when they were getting back into contention. Only the Cubs.
  23. In 1993 the Mets lost 8 games in a row, 5 of them to the Cubs. Now that is really bad.
