  1. Has the media come off their stance? The media is praising the balance from Sunday and are practically taking credit for the win by insisting that Martz run more.
  2. With regards to the effort, the Blackhawks haven't played since Sunday yet there is still no team in hockey that has played as many games as them this year. They are at 17 and the next highest are 15. Most are between 12-14. They played the deepest into the summer and have been given the most demanding schedule of any team in the league so far. They have already played 4 games the day after another game. It has to be taking a toll. I think there is some cup hangover going on, some getting used to new teammates, but a significant amount has to be this stupid schedule.
  3. I really like the idea of Fukudome and Dunn in the same lineup. Two potential top ten guys in the area to go along with what should be solid numbers by Ramirez and Soto could make that a strength of the team. Let Colvin be the 4th OF he's almost certainly destined to be. All three spots are going to need the rest.
  4. And creating a hole. I'm not disagreeing with you, but putting Colvin in RF and signing a 4th OF would alleviate some money issues for a 1B. And severely weaken the already soft OBP abilities of this team.
  5. Why is this sad? Why is sad even on the list of words you would consider using in that sentence? There are 16 teams in each conference, you can't play them all every other year. Who gives a crap that Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco may only play each other 3 times in 11 years? Do you know how many times Peyton Manning and McNabb have played each other? 3 times. Who cares?
  6. Of [expletive] course we are. Hendry sees Lilly/Marquis part deux. If Rothschild can turn either into Lilly, I'd be fine with the signing. Westbrook seems like he might have that potential, Garland is probably more similar to Marquis. I wouldn't be in favor of the signing, but I wouldn't hate it either. I would. This team isn't going to get better by signing innings eaters. They need to score more runs first and foremost, and the only way they are going to improve the pitching is by getting a real stud, not more guys who are okay.

  8. Some of those guys are very smart, or went right into coaching after playing. They didn't quit their team because their wife was unfaithful then walk away for a while only to express an interest in coaching several years later.
  9. The difference is the way people account for trades that happened. If opening day payroll was 145 they traded it down to 135, but since that was halfway through the year they actually spent around 138-140.
  10. The problem is they have to put pressure on him to force him into making horrible throws, which they've been unable to do with most QBs so far this season. He's not going to make those terrible decisions and throws if he has time. You underestimate his resolve.
  11. You need to be good at blocking if your decision to start blocking is going to make any difference.
  12. Whether or not he does it will have very little impact on whether or not the Titans win.
  13. That is my biggest hope for a win here, Favre giving it away. I think he can do it, and I want to count on him, but it's not enough to have confidence.
  14. Well that makes me feel better about Super Bowl 36. That was Mike Martz's fault. What the hell does the coach of the 2005 version of that team have to do with the 2010 team? That would be like blaming Jauron for the Bears disappointing 2009.
  15. But he will up and quit because of marital problems.
  16. Your logic is outstanding. The Bears are better because they beat Green Bay? Sure. And have a better record and better players. It's the only impressive victory on either team's schedule. Regardless, my argument is more about the fact that calling them bad in the preseason was not dumb and is not nearly as big a mistake as calling Dallas good. They are 4-4 and in the bottom half of the NFL.
  17. STL has played nobody this year and they are 4-4. The Bears have played two top teams in NYG and GB, are 1-1 against them and have 5 wins. STL beat two mediocre teams the Bears lost to, they also got their asses kicked by DET. Yet you are claiming STL might be the 6th best team in the conference.
  18. Why? They have 4 losses, none of them to good teams. It's not that hard to make a top 8 list of NFC teams anyway. There may be 12 AFC teams in that discussion.
  19. He was also born into the sport and been given numerous opportunities to be a completely underwhelming coach. Not sure he needs any pity.
  20. haha. I'm not sure what's worse up to this point -- Minnesota and Dallas at 3 and 4 or Tampa Bay and STL at 30 and 32. Neither Tampa or STL is good. Tampa has beaten some crappy teams and lost to everybody that posed a threat, plus they've been outscored by a wide margin. They could both easily finish in the bottom 10 of the league, while Dallas and Minnesota have no chance of being a top 10 team. STL plays in a crap division and their AFC division opponents are also the weakest. Tampa very easily could've won on the road against Atlanta yesterday. I don't think they're that bad. No, they aren't the 30th worst team in the game, but that ranking is not as egregious of a mistake as Dallas and Minny up top.

  22. There won't be any time to formulate their speeches for the defensive players of every damn game awards.
  23. Something I noticed looking at Peter King's rankings is there are a lot of 5-3 teams right now, and the Bears really shot themselves in the foot by losing both of those NFC games.
  24. I'd hope that they wouldn't sacrifice a lot of attention from an intradivision game for a non-conference game a few days later. I mean, they're all important, and the Bears should probably win both if they want to be serious playoff contenders, but if you had to pick one, the vikings game is clearly more important. Absolutely. But with fewer days to prepare I wouldn't be surprised if they did some Miami game planning prior to Sunday. And this is a team that needs everything clicking to beat mediocre competition, so any minor sacrifice could be exposed.
