  1. If they do lose focus, it won't be because Lovie did. Don't forget this man is still coaching for his job. If they collapse and finish 8-8 or 9-7 to finish the year, he's not gonna be returning. I figured before the season 8-8 would save his job, and I'm not sure that it won't now. Losing 5 straight to end the season may be enough, but given the CBA situation 1 more win may be plenty for him to stay.
  2. Hendry gave up a first round pick for Latroy Hawkins. They've spent first round picks on guys most people saw going in the comp or second round. He's decided to pass on offering arbitration when he could have gotten first round picks. I highly doubt he's passed on a guy he likes because of draft picks.
  3. Shaun Hill didn't practice and Drew Stanton took #1 reps.
  4. After all that I would still bet on Pittsburgh if they faced off in a neutral site.
  5. Yes there is a difference. Seymour punched a guy in the face unprovoked while Johnson got in a fight that was provoked by another player. Seymour wasn't unprovoked. Seymour didn't punch a guy. Okay, you keep thinking that. If you choose to pretend not to know why he wasn't suspended then that's your right. If you choose to continue to be wrong, that's also your right. One was a sucker punch and the other was two men fighting. Are you being serious?
  6. I was completely conflicted on the Soriano contract. I hated the deal as a whole but was happy they at least had a quality bat in the OF. It was something like being resigned to the fact that Hendry's inability to get hitters before 2007 meant we pretty much had to accept Soriano if we wanted to see them do anything the next couple years.
  7. No he doesn't. He didn't do anything as a Cub that he didn't do before being a Cub. I undervalued his ability to perform in the AL East.

  9. I'm not going to quote whole threads. Go back and read them. Very few were in favor. Most of those quotes were from a thread where the OP suggested Lilly might be a good signing. For one, nobody knew at the time just how much they had to spend. And two, when the dust settled people were generally pleased with Lilly at least in comparison to the other signings. And three, Ted Lilly was good before he became a Cubs so the whole point of this discussion in the first place is nonexistent.
  10. I hadn't thought about the time zone thing before. I don't see how that is valid when they've already done Japan/Korea and are considering China very soon as well. It's not that you'd never have one there, but it's an obstacle to overcome relative to bids in more friendly time zones. Sure, but you are essentially talking about the same type of people who hand out olympic bids and they didn't have a problem going to the area of the world on multiple occasions.

  12. Ditto Ted Lilly. You could also make a case for Randy Wells considering he was an after-thought as a prospect back in the day. Ted Lilly was a damn fine pitcher long before he became a Cub. Nobody was saying that when we signed him. Most saw him as an inconsistent back-end starter that Hendry overpaid for. Lilly was largely applauded, Marquis was the one people hated. And the Soriano contract.

  14. True, as I think we still with with or without Gore, but this just makes it easier. Hopefully. You really don't need it any easier. Green Bay has manhandled just about every bad team they've faced. And San Francisco is as bad as any team they have faced with or without Gore and his three rushing touchdowns.
  15. That's what they need to focus on, but not me. I need to see a prolonged stretch of solid play before I put this team back toward the top.

  17. They have 9 games over the next three weeks. I think they need to pull off a 7-2 type stretch if they want to realistically be considered among the top NHL teams. 4-2 road trips are nice, but when you struggle to win more than 2 in a row that's a problem. The best they've done this year was 4, but they went to OT in 2 of those games to conference foes, negating some of the benefit. They will be approaching the halfway point after this three week stretch, with or without Hossa, and if they can't get themselves to a better points/game pace, they are going to be in a fight for the last couple playoff spots.
  18. Tom Brady is endorsign Uggs. http://cdn.ksk.uproxx.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/tom-brady-uggs.jpg
  19. How likely do you think it is that reporters will stop asking that question, in that situation? I guess it seems to me like you are asking for something to happen that won't ever happen. I would guess that in every single game somebody on the losing side smiles while on the sideline and 99% of the time nobody asks them why in the press conference.
  20. There's just no reason to ask the question at all. I saw the video after reading about it and that is not laughing at a joke on the sideline. That's the kid of grin somebody has at a funeral when another person tries to lighten the mood. It's inconsequential and a very stupid thing to ask about in a press conference.
  21. Is this a serious question? In my confidence pool I put 16 points on Philly and 2 on Carolina Not really. I haven't been holding on to better teams to use later all season, but was looking into what it would entail this week. Probably not worth holding onto Philly for next week's game. It's only me and one other guy left, and he's already used the Eagles.
  22. You're getting a whole lot more cost certainty with the first group Perhaps, but you're likely getting more payroll flexibility with the 2nd group, and with the second 3 you have a much better shot at 1 or more going nuts for a year than with the first group. How?
  23. Why was your dad loathing over Teixeira while lauding his amazing arm? Oh, and you two should probably start looking into counseling.
