  1. And Derrek Lee hit .300? And batting average is meaningful why?
  2. But I don't see how playing fewer games is better for the game? I think it would be better for the game if the season concluded before snow was falling on the field, but that's just me. There is no reason to play 160 some odd games to decide division winners when winning the division doesn't mean much anymore. Shorten the season to be the summer game it was originally designed to be, rather than forcing fans to sit in the stands freezing their butts off watching playoff teams switch out relievers 6 times each. It does end before it snows in the vast majority of cities where it is played. Winning the division does, and should, matter. I think the reason you play 162 games is because people want to and are willing to watch 162 games of baseball. What is "best" for the game is not playing the fewest amount of games possible to satisfy the statistical likelihood of the best teams making the playoffs.

  5. Now that the excitement and surprise of bringing back Kerry Wood on the cheap has passed I realize I don't feel the least bit different about the 2011 Cubs. He's still just a middle reliever who will probably struggle a bit and miss significant time. That's not exactly the missing link on this team.
  6. If he really doesn't play anymore, the phantom suspension rumors are going to grow out of control. He's never missed a game, and then suddenly he goes from possibly playing to out for 4 weeks?
  7. What? The prima donna is whining about the physical toll of travelling at odd hours now? He has to be attempting to set the stage for one last start doesn't he?
  8. The first time I took my now wife to a Cubs game we were in the RF bleachers and I called a Brian McRae homerun on the next pitch. It happened, landed 2 rows in front of us and I'm pretty sure she was in love from that point forward. Did somebody ask why you were upset with a woman who raised a lot of money by charity? Who cares about card collectors?
  9. I have Cowboys in survivor, did my chances just go up?
  10. Leadoff guy gets a bunt single, then steals 2nd. The 2nd hitter hits a groundball to 2B to move the runner to third. 3rd hitter knocks him in with a sac fly. What's so complicated about that? It's not complicated. It's not smart either.
  11. "But to get a 90 percent non-approval rating was really surprising. It showed that we didn’t connect with our fans in a way that we wanted to. It’s humbling, to say the least, because we’re trying to build fan bases, not push them away. "I've been around this business a long time, and I would say it’s one of the more surprising things. There’s a sensibility there that we did not connect with, did not read well." How are they surprised by the negative response? I figured they knew it was terrible but did it anyway for some specific reason.

  13. But Detroit isn't good against the run either. And they don't pass because they don't need to to beat them. Pretty much every coach would prefer to run if that is all it took to beat a team. Additionally, Detroit is a pass happy team with a lot of incompletions, so the clock isn't running very fast in their games. we're poor-ish against the run because our LBs are lousy, i already told you that our DL is great, our LB pretty bad and our secondary decent. all that's pretty intuitively obvious to anybody watching us the defense in general seems worse than it is mostly because we've played against a really tough schedule (opponents with a 95-74 combined record) and have committed too many penalties, though a part of that is probably subconscious bias You are bad against the run and pass. You are a bad NFL football team. There's no intuition needed, it's plain as freaking day.
  14. I don't. He probably shouldn't get anymore than $500,000 for pitching services, and $1m for being a fan favorite. Interesting view of market forces and net worth you have there. Do you even know what any of those words mean? You feel sorry for the guy and I'm the one with an "interesting view"?

  16. I wonder how many refund demands they've received today It says they expect it to be well attended, but if you could get your money back to an end of season game in a lost season lots of people have to consider it. Vikings Ticket Office address 425 Chicago Avenue, Minneapolis, MN.
  17. If this is $2m or under, I really don't have any problem with it. 2/$12m would be absurd, and 1/$6m would also be an unnecessary risk. But a deal that allows for flexibility to bring in more pitching should be kind of low.
  18. I think most likely that would turn the field into a swamp that would then freeze and be worse than Soldier Field and Heinz Field turf. Not if you keep the heaters on the field until after the game. My god man, do I have to think of everything? Hester could do that "cooling off his feet" thing and it would be for real.
  19. Cutler, Roethlisberger or Josh Freeman?

  22. So you think the reports saying they'll likely move him back to the rotation after acquiring a veteran reliever are wrong? A couple things. I think UK originally wrote that signing a starting pitcher and keeping Cashner in the pen would result in Cashner going between AAA and Chicago's bullpen, and that would be worse than signing a questionabl set-up man (Wood) and moving Cashner back to the rotation. At the same time, a reliever probably bumps Cashner to the pen, but if that reliever isn't healthy enough to start the season, or misses time midseason, Cashner is probably first option to go back to bullpen and fill-in.
  23. Why would something like "all conference champs are invited" be a bad thing? 11 conference champions and 5 WC teams sounds fair to me. And if they're so bad they won't make it past the first round, now will they? so they shouldn't be there.
