I find it very useful myself. Doubtful, it seems you never miss an opportuity for conflict. I find it amusing that you have essentially tried insulting me repeatedly while complaining about how people treat others. I've got a good half dozen names on the list who I can easily avoid. If there is a discussion where I feel like they may not be an idiot, I can still read specific posts to test the waters. That's leading me to probably taking one of those guys off the list.

http://dailyherald.com/article/20110602/sports/706029870/ bruce mentions gillick and schuerholz like they're just sitting around waiting for the cubs to call and offer them a job. gillick voluntarily retired after a very successful run as GM of the phillies and is almost 74 years old. schuerholz is 70 and has been with the braves forever. it's certainly worth kicking their tires, but is schuerholz going to leave a very successful organization at his advanced age? will gillick want to come out of retirement to fix the cubs? i also don't agree with the idea that the rest of cubs management is tied to jim hendry. if you want to keep wilken around, then just offer him the money to stay. same with fleita (though he can F off as far as i'm concerned). who cares about randy bush. I agree with your second point. If you want those people you can keep them. As for the "baseball person", an older guy isn't much of a problem if you are talking about the person who is basically in charge of hiring your next GM. Kenney is running the business, the other guy is more or less an advisor you pay a chunk of change to make sure your baseaball team goes in the right direction. -

Just to clarify, you think game threads are short because of sporcle? Uhh, no. Is that what you really took from that (rhetorical question, I know it's not)? I really don't get what you are saying. You seem to be refuting the notion that the board has struggled because of the Cubs struggles and placing the blame mostly on the decision to try out a couple failed side projects. No, I'm not. I'm saying it's a combo. Pretend to not get it again though so I can say it a few more times. I'm not pretending anything. I just don't get what you are trying to say. The way you wrote that was confusing. And I still don't get how failed side projects affected the way people post here.

Yeah, sometimes the bullying people into going away works, but I am often perplexed by how many people argue ad nauseum with people who only want to argue. If you know getting into it with a particular person will only precipitate an endless and circuitous argument, why bother? Sometimes ignoring the problem is the solution. I don't know, was just noting that anybody should be top 3, so just because a guy goes there doesn't make him best available. He seems to be a decent option, a little on the safe and boring side but not completely devoid of star potential.

I partook in about -1 of all those side things. To me the site has always been just the message board. I don't see how the message board was neglected or what other stuff you'd want done to it. But I do know that at least once every 3-4 months there is a huge discussion about how this place is going downhill and that has been happening every year.

I don't get the correlation between attempting to monetize the site and the site's supposed decline. The Cubs were on the verge of something great a decade ago and over the course of this decade people got really excited talking about them, but the life has been sucked out of the franchise and people just aren't excited to talk about them. Oh well. If things turn around and the site is still around things will change again.

You're talking about other people's worthless opinions and complaining about egotistical know it alls? Never claimed to know much of anything honestly, didn't say all of the opinions were worthless and didn't feel the need to single out anyone for further humiliation over their opinions. But you specifically mentioned that a bunch of others had worthless opinions and that you are annoyed with egotistical know it alls. I just don't understand why so many people worry so much about how everybody else posts on this message board. If you want to point out that you think Pena sucks and then walk away without discussing further, then do it. If somebody wants to rebuke your claim, then so be it. People seem to be as much, or more, emotionally invested in how they talk about the fact that the Cubs suck than they are in the fact that the Cubs suck.

it's really not uncommon. high draft pick pitchers are normally more successful (and throw harder), just like high draft pick hitters. I think you guys are talking about two different things.

cant afford rehab assignments when you're fighting for a playoff spot to keep your job You have to wonder if it's at least partially a matter of thinking the guy will never hack it as a starter but not wanting to come out and say that. Because the notion that an injured starter can't return to the rotation after a couple month's absense is pretty crazy. And fighting for his job would probably entail rushing him back more than keeping the rotation hole as is.

It's pretty much average for a 2B in the NL right now, although that average is likely to go up as the season progresses. Cubs are above average at 2B and that is fine, as long as they don't wed themselves to that longterm. -

No I meant half of what he paid for it, which is quite the loss. Yes I realize the debt is from the purchase. But when the stadium half full it becomes an issue to pay back what was borrowed You said he bought the Cubs for half of what they're worth, so fine let's subtract the 180 from 845(total purchase price of Cubs + Wrigley + CSN share) and you've got 665. You think the Cubs were worth 333M?? What the hell kind of math are you people discussing? QMG said Ricketts paid twice what the Cubs are worth. The purchase was 845M for Cubs/Wrigley/25% of CSN. He posted a link referencing that the CSN share was valued at 180M back when Zell was owner. (845-180)/2 = what QMG apprasies the worth of the Cubs as. Okay, that was confusing before.
