  1. Just to clarify, you think game threads are short because of sporcle?
  2. I would hope anybody they draft cracks the top 3 just by default.
  3. I partook in about -1 of all those side things. To me the site has always been just the message board. I don't see how the message board was neglected or what other stuff you'd want done to it. But I do know that at least once every 3-4 months there is a huge discussion about how this place is going downhill and that has been happening every year.
  4. I don't get the correlation between attempting to monetize the site and the site's supposed decline. The Cubs were on the verge of something great a decade ago and over the course of this decade people got really excited talking about them, but the life has been sucked out of the franchise and people just aren't excited to talk about them. Oh well. If things turn around and the site is still around things will change again.
  5. You're talking about other people's worthless opinions and complaining about egotistical know it alls? Never claimed to know much of anything honestly, didn't say all of the opinions were worthless and didn't feel the need to single out anyone for further humiliation over their opinions. But you specifically mentioned that a bunch of others had worthless opinions and that you are annoyed with egotistical know it alls. I just don't understand why so many people worry so much about how everybody else posts on this message board. If you want to point out that you think Pena sucks and then walk away without discussing further, then do it. If somebody wants to rebuke your claim, then so be it. People seem to be as much, or more, emotionally invested in how they talk about the fact that the Cubs suck than they are in the fact that the Cubs suck.

  7. I never realized how much thought people put into this site.
  8. it's really not uncommon. high draft pick pitchers are normally more successful (and throw harder), just like high draft pick hitters. I think you guys are talking about two different things.
  9. Wasnt the collision in his last start? Might have been. I couldn't see the games. You might be right, though. He could have taken the mound last night with some aftereffects and then said he couldn't go any longer. Great googily moogily.
  10. cant afford rehab assignments when you're fighting for a playoff spot to keep your job You have to wonder if it's at least partially a matter of thinking the guy will never hack it as a starter but not wanting to come out and say that. Because the notion that an injured starter can't return to the rotation after a couple month's absense is pretty crazy. And fighting for his job would probably entail rushing him back more than keeping the rotation hole as is.
  11. You can probably combine a couple to change that.
  12. disagree. It's stuff like that which makes it worth reading.
  13. Fred is persistently passive.
  14. It's pretty much average for a 2B in the NL right now, although that average is likely to go up as the season progresses. Cubs are above average at 2B and that is fine, as long as they don't wed themselves to that longterm.
  15. needs more trade proposals
  16. No I meant half of what he paid for it, which is quite the loss. Yes I realize the debt is from the purchase. But when the stadium half full it becomes an issue to pay back what was borrowed You said he bought the Cubs for half of what they're worth, so fine let's subtract the 180 from 845(total purchase price of Cubs + Wrigley + CSN share) and you've got 665. You think the Cubs were worth 333M?? What the hell kind of math are you people discussing? QMG said Ricketts paid twice what the Cubs are worth. The purchase was 845M for Cubs/Wrigley/25% of CSN. He posted a link referencing that the CSN share was valued at 180M back when Zell was owner. (845-180)/2 = what QMG apprasies the worth of the Cubs as. Okay, that was confusing before.
  17. Come on. The basic point stands but no reason to exaggerate. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2011&month=0&season1=2011&ind=0 Whoops, Hamels snuck in there too. And 5 others.
  18. Yeah, like that guy at SS. I agree the article is ridiculous. But one can argue Castro hasn't shown much either, and not too many people seem outraged at the hype. The justification for the hype is completely different.

  21. I saw that and wanted to rip it to shreds, then I took a peak at everybody's batting lines and it's not as ridiculous as I was thinking. But it's still pretty stupid, most notably the "best player on the team" comment.
  22. This happens to me on the TV and Movie thread, and I find it's actually quite easy to just go back 2 pages, skim a little and then start reading. It takes about 30 seconds to catch up.
  23. Yeah, any Kosuke contract would have to keep from interfering with Jackson's playing time in Chicago and a pursuit of Kemp. If we can do those two things, though, a .360-.400 OBP would look really nice staying at the top of the order. I actually made a thread about this a while back. I'd like to keep Kosuke around, as long as it wouldn't block anyone. He just bought a house in Chicago and said he'd like to stay here, so maybe he could be kept around for a reasonable amount, maybe 5-7MM per, maybe on a year to year basis. Now that it appears that Colvin might have been a mirage, it opens up some options. If Byrd could be dealt, it would increase the viability of the idea. I like Kosuke's OBP and defense a lot. Much depends on how the rest of this year plays out. If he maintains performance throughout the season, he might draw a fair amount of interest. I'd like to justify bringing him back myself, especially since this is such a pathetic walk taking team. But I don't think it is realistic.
  24. What? In what way shape or form is asking for significant changes to how the Cubs are run reactionary? How long until piling on is no longer reactionary? You're changing the argument. Asking for significant change isn't reactionary. Getting worked up over a quote on June 1st is. There are plenty of people unhappy with some decisions and the general state of the franchise who aren't overreacting to a quote in the paper. To answer your question, this next offseason will tell the tale for me, not a quote. I'm not changing anything. You said piling on right now is completely reactionary. It was a nonsensical attack by you on anybody who has negative feelings toward the way the Cubs are being run by Ricketts and his employees. Ricketts has had plenty of time to make better decisions than the ones he has made so far (namely keeping with the status quo).
