  1. Speaking of Bruce's blog, I noticed his little commentary on Dusty's "woe is me" nonsensical answer to questions about Hendry and the Cubs.
  2. How so? I read it this morning and just checked it out.
  3. Yeah, I think they miss it as well. But I'm holding out hope.
  4. Bears are still getting 3 points in this one, making them one of only 4 home dogs on the slate this week.
  5. Isn't some of the cap story about how much they spent last year on 3 guys, two of which were worthless one year wastes? Unlike 2006/2007, I can't think of very many young players I want to see them extend in advance of free agency. They might want to reconsider Cutler's deal if he takes another step forward. Forte would be fine, but you have to consider you might be paying all his guarantee money just for 2011, with as many miles as he already has on his legs.
  6. Disagree on both accounts...45 isn't old and he's one of thE few FO talents this franchise has. Disagree all you want but you're wrong. He's been around for a very long time and is right behind Jim Hendry is terms of crappy baseball execs who screwed up the Cubs this past decade. He's also not young, so there's no point in pretending otherwise.
  7. Looks like my gut sucks. It doesn't suck to keep him. What the heck is a young tapers player of suit? Phone typing...talent...Player or suit. Fleita is not talent. Nor is he young.
  8. Does Affliction make western wear?
  9. Brokeback Brewers?

  11. What is being ignored by some here is that fleita is horrible at his job. They did a good job developing pitchers when hendry held that role but they suck now. He is terrible, stuck with an ignorant philosophy and you are forcing him on a new gm. Candidates will definitely not look favorably at this sort of decision making by an uninformed owner.
  12. Obviously it was more important to replace hendry but this exposes rickets as uninformed, panicky and horribly shortsighted. Does not bode well for gm search or future of this team. Should have made changes year ago.
  13. You forgot about dr z in 2005
  14. According to Pat Hughes, the ball was hit to the hole between short and third, Castro made a good play, but the throw was late (Harrison is fast). Barney hustled toward first to back up the play in case the throw got away (it didn't), so no one was in position to cover second. Harrison saw that and took the base. Barney needs to get his head out of his butt there. Quade should probably bench Castro to give Barney something to think about.
  15. Lombardi seemed to have a reasonable view of the Bears last year, which I think proved correct in the end. Simmons just wants to take an extreme viewpoint just so he can claim he had it right all along if it works out, or brush it off as "what do I know" if he's wrong.

  17. Step-back talent-wise was the comment, they didn't take a step back talent-wise. They stayed the same. The fact that they may have won more than they should have last year does not support the notion that they took a step back talent-wise.
  18. They also didn't really let the starters do anything at all in the previous 3 preseason games. They also have a total hard ass douche for a coach, no? It's hard to tell how much of Haley's demeanor is Haley and how much is mandated from Pioli. Listening to him deny/not comment on injuries or any player evaluations is kinda hilarious after a while. He had the reputation long before he teamed up with Pioli.
  19. That does not surprise me in the least given the complete football stupidity of the boss there, and I really have no idea how they couldn't put them in the next group over. Simmons was saying things like "We think the Bears are terrible, right?" the whole time they were winning games last year. I have no issue with somebody who doubts the Bears, but to think they are terrible is just silly.
  20. Given that for most of them the playing time will be extremely limited and meaningless, I really don't have an issue. Reward the guy for playing well, just as long as they don't get stupid about thinkng he has a future.
  21. They've worked them in and out all game. There hasn't been a single starter playing this drive. Yep, the last drive there weren't any. What was the reasoning behind that tonight? If I had to guess it was because of the shortened camps and that they've looked bad so far. Part tune up part kick in the ass. They also didn't really let the starters do anything at all in the previous 3 preseason games. They also have a total hard ass douche for a coach, no?
  22. I read an article about this topic, maybe this one, earlier. These are the same people who insisted there was no way this team could function without bringing Kreutz back. Garza has no case for an extension. He's an old replacable piece. This is Garza's last year on his deal. You comfortable with Spencer in there? I mean...if you are, that's cool. I simply was pointing out that there's guys that have contracts expiring, and that if you do want to extend them, that is probably more important that tacking on extra money to a guy that has 3 years left. I am glad that it is Garza's last year, that way he won't be on the team next year. He's not any good. Yes, after this year he's got zero years remaining on contract. After this year Briggs only has 2, and that provides the Bears a lot of leverage to redo it at team friendly terms, if they so choose. Roberto Garza has nothing to do with that. I like making 2nd tier guys wait and prove themselves before extending them. I have no desire to extend Briggs tomorrow, but he is much more valuable to this team than almost everybody else who could think of an extension. If he tried sitting out this season, then screw it. But if this is just getting the ball rolling toward potential negotiations this winter, I don't really care. The timing sucks, but I've never thought of anything Briggs has done to be an actual detriment to the locker room or the team. He's not a problem child, he's just choosing to fight for everything he thinks he deserves.
