    There is no reason for the B1G to take Iowa State or Kansas. They add very little to the revenue pie. ND and Mizzou are the only two options on the table that (1) fit the profile of the conference and (2) add value to the league and increase the BTN's footprint. I'm perfectly content with staying at 12 teams, there is no need to expand to expand. Adding Iowa State will create a natural conference rivalry with Iowa. Adding Kansas will increase the league's basketball profile. You have to add someone if you want to get to 16. That's the assumption I started out with. Iowa is not exactly struggling for rivals in the conference.

    Might as well keep him out through the bye then. That'd mean he'd be out for GB, Car, @Det, Min, and @TB in London. Back in time for Philly on 11/7. If he's healthy enough to play in 4 weeks there's no reason to purposefully hold him out longer. He'll get an extended break after that game to recover from his first post-injury action.

    Peter King threw out the completely meaningless and nonsensical "can't win with Rex Grossman" line again this week. How is it that this line gets repated so often when the facts (his team went to the Super Bowl with him starting and they have won a lot more than they've lost while he's played) completely disprove the dumbass comment being made? Why can't you just say he's inconsistent and unreliable in the long-term? Why purposefully use an incorrect statement?

    I do not agree with the "we need to run more, passing gets us in trouble" concept. Running more doesn't win them more games. It was a close game for a while, but it got out of control in a hurry. And the offense couldn't do anything.

    Most of the pounding was after some injuries. It was still a 3 point game late in the 3rd quarter. I'm thinking that line might drift more in the Packers favor if the Bears injury reports are....unfavorable. Nick Collins will be out you would think for the Packers and Williams, I think is questionable although he wants to play. With those two out the Packers secondary will be weakened big time. Combine that with the Bears ability to hold the Packers offense down and with it being in Chicago I am not the most confident about this game. I don't see how it's anything but a toss up. GB is favored by 3.5 on the road so obviously people don't think it's a toss up. I think they are an easy pick in this game and will be chosen by just about everybody.

    Three straight weeks of being an underdog, Packers are favored by 3.5. Lot of potential implications to come out of this early season matchup. It's Packers week. It's the CG rematch. The game will either leave GB as the odds on favorite to win the division, or completely throw everything into flux as we enter the middle part of the season. Back to back chitshows like last week will leave the fan base and media up in arms, and may get Cutler killed. Bears might need to get lucky this week, but Lovie's teams tend to play well vs GB.

    At this rate they may just use up all the mileage he has left on his body this season and get somebody else next year.

    I've never read the guy before, but you're right. Buffone is horrible. The entire paragraph is incoherent, but this was my favorite part. Did he right this or was he just quoted off a radio interview. Lots of people sound like that when being interviewed.

    The point I've been making this entire thread is that we should let Aramis walk to (hopefully) free up the money to sign Wilson and one of Pujols/Fielder. Wilson is a better short and long term investment than Aramis at this point. And that isn't a very smart point to try and make. Your solutions to fill the position are garbage.

    Well that was a nice thorough beat down. Felt kind of inevitable after the strange ego boost the Bears got from the Atlanta game. This pass defense still scares the crap out of me. And the offensive line doesn't have the ability to block enough to hang in shoot outs. Not to mention they have no depth. Definitely the type of game that reminds you 9 wins might be the best they do.

    He is still 28 and doesn't turn 30 until next season is over. Not being a good hitter (which isn't even entirely true) doesn't stop this team from carrying Koyie Hill, Jeff Baker, and Blake DeWitt all on one team. All those guys suck at defense too so that's not an excuse. Lahair is a 1B. Those guys are versatile and/or play premium positions. And I don't think they all suck at defense either. I don't have a problem with the concept of such a player on the bench. But it can't be at the expense of anybody else that matters.

    What does more big plays than last year mean? It should be expected that a rookie WR would fail to do a whole lot in his first game.

    Have you been watching the last 7-8 years? Even the increase in expectations the last few years leaves the Cubs with extremely low expectations for a big market big money team. There were lots of people who didn't think Hendry should go after all this time. Meh, after seeing FA acquisitions being Boo'd in April after a slow start, I relalized the expectations were pretty high. Maybe not as high as the Red Sox or Yankees, because ultimately winning brings the highest expectations IMO, but considerably more than probably 25-26 of the 29 other teams. Yankees fans boo their FA when they do well. I've heard Phillies fans bitch about Halladay taking a step back. Cubs fans are nowhere near as critical of their team as other big market teams. Booing an expensive free agent who is hitting .050 in April isn't really unique to the Cubs.

    I didn't realize espn had the bears at 13 going in. That seems fair. Peter King had 'em pretty high, which seemed odd to me, but not the first time he's done it.

    I wouldn't go so far as to call it ridiculous, but it was a bad call. I'm okay with the NFL erring on the side of safety on calls like this. Safeties launching into receivers is good for TV, but it's really dangerous and I'd much rather see hard hitting tackles than missile shots. He let up, but it probably was far from clear live. I would like to see the NFL explicitly say Manning should not have gotten a penalty. Acknowledge that he took the proper action but continue to enforce this type of penalty, if not this specific play.

    Ugly blowout or ugly ugly? It's a good bet to say any game involving Baltimore will turn ugly, just by the way the football is played.

    Nope. If this was a different organization I'd probably be cheering for it just for the fun of it. But I don't like having a guy with patience issues trying to get to an arbitrary number of hits by year end. Production isn't about a specific number of hits and Castro still has a lot of learning to do. But oh well, he's good enough to not get screwed up by it.

    Interesting, but I'm not sure that tells you anything when you need to account for a speedy player who has constant leg injuries, and plays middle infield. A speedy CF is one thing, but from what I've hard, middle infielders tend to age poorly.

    Because that would be dumb and penalize a team for doing something good while rewarding incompetence. A muffed return has to be past the line of scrimmage when contact is made. A block occurs behind the line.

I remember the split second part because I was barely listening when I heard the S word and my ears perked up.
