  1. I think he would still technically have been a free agent. Arbitration occurs after players file for free agency.
  2. I doubt it would be next to nothing but I'm guessing the price would be somewhat depressed
  3. Injuries, a perceived decline in performance and if I remember correctly, some sort of "clutchiness" issue in the playoffs. Plus, they equate him to the dismal post-NLCS run they have been on. Wright and Reyes are the faces of this franchise and every year there is talk about trading one or both and moving on or trying to hold it together. I also think there are personality issues, maybe he's said some things they think make him look weak. Not sure exactly.
  4. Do Mets fans really hate David Wright? Awesome. Easier to acquire. Not all of them. But a large vocal number of them constantly berate him. So he's like their Aramis? Even though most of the fans like Aramis, all of the unfortunately "important" media hates him (Kaplan, Sullivan, etc...) Sort of I guess. But the fans are much more vocally negative. I've never heard Wrigley turn on Ramirez. And the fans often give him their loudest applause. I've been at Citi Field a couple times where there is nothing but negative noice with Wright up.
  5. I'm not interested in that sort of Jim Hendry move.
  6. Did the media force him to do a Super Bowl ad with his mom? I have yet to make one argument on this board that you didn't attempt to tear down, but good point anyway. The media is far from innocent in this whole matter though. I also fail to see how Tebow doing a commercial is "shoving his views down people's throats". Why do people take so much offense to people expressing perhaps different beliefs than their own? I have no idea who you are but I guess you make a lot of bad points if I keep tearing them down. People get annoyed at proselytizers because it is insulting. They also get annoyed at athletes who try and pretend god is on their side. Doing a commercial for the super bowl, is shoving something down your throats, considering it is the most watched event every year. Pepsi, Budweiser, Ford and all the others are trying to shove stuff down our throats as well.
  7. For being a bad quarterback with a legion of fans who demand he play.
  8. I really think people have a strange obsession with this building from within, stop spending on the best free agents, be patient and only make small moves theory. Part of building from within is trading your prospects for valuable pieces. The Chicago Cubs will never win with a team filled only with internally drafted players. Acquiring Felix is nothing like the way Hendry would do things. The Cubs never went after the best of the best, they always went after the 2nd choice on the shelf. Hendry's Cubs absolutely built from within. But building from within with Hendry's prospects was part of the problem, and trading Hendry's prospects for an ace is hardly a move that will cripple the future. Theo Epstein is not going to run the Cubs on a series of small moves. He's going to make splashes. So try to not be disappointed when that happens.

  11. For what it's worth, Wright went from the darling of Mets fandom to persona non grata. The negative energy toward him in the stadium is palpable. They hate him. And the team's finances are a mess. I could see them giving him away.
  12. I don't get it
  13. I think Wood probably will be, though. He said he'd rather retire than go elsewhere, and I'm sure Theo would be happy to take him at such a low cost. Then again, Wood might decide he'd rather retire than play for a really low amount again, so we'll see. Yeah I think there's a pretty good chance he stays put. I could see him signing a 2 year deal, maybe for like 7 mil, and then calling it a career and hanging with the organization in some other capacity. 2/7 is not in any way shape or form a low amount for what Wood has been bringing to the table.
  14. that is my preference as well.
  15. For tailgate purposes I assume. Going to NY games at 1pm allows for a decent amount of tailgating, but I feel like noon games come up too quickly in the morning. But the 4pm games are a glorious mess of beer and seared meat products. Try tailgating the early games on the West Coast. A Bloody Mary is the only thing that really sounds good early in the morning. Unless, of course, you are just continuing your buzz from the night before. Unless you wake up feeling hung over, a breakfast beer is delicious. Of course you could try a manmosa/lunch box, which is a pint of beer leaving a little space for OJ and amaretto.
  16. I agree they don't sound good, but they can taste quite good. I went on a bloody mary binge a few years ago after never having considered one my entire life. They are way down my list now, but I will dabble from time to time.
  17. so you've decided to latch on the "past performance" part of the press conference. Okay.
  18. For people saying this shows you what sort of salary relief will come with a Zambrano trade, would you care to elaborate? Are you saying teams will be willing to take on $5m of Zambrano's deal?
  19. really going out on a limb there people everybody who isn't dumb knows Tebow sucks
  20. what is a second-line player? Patrick Sharp?
  21. if theo is on board I am
