    Yeah, I think he probably has a primary target in mind and is giving Quade the proper amount of time to be mourned, letting the Sandberg thing breathe and then announce soon.

    Zambrano told a teammate he was going to retire but then changed his mind, and for this the vast majority think he should never put on a Cubs uniform again. Ryne Sandberg actually did quit on his team in the middle of the season. But a very large group of people have nothing but glowing things to say about him and think he should lead this team.

    do people really have issue with sandberg not diving for baseballs during his playing career? i'm not calling you out specifically, but this isn't the first time i've heard those types of comments from people here. That was a widespread view of him back in his playing days and in the discussions of his error-less streak and comparisons with other great middle infielders.

    ............and that makes him equal to Z in what way? Not equal, worse. People say Z quit when he said he retired, but he didn't really as it was just an emotional outburst. Sandberg actually followed through on quitting on his team like the cold calculated me-first jerk that he is.

    I'm exaggerating a bit, but I never particularly liked him once I was old enough not to just love him for being a Cub. He was like Ryan Theriot in how he thought way too much of himself, especially on defense because of his overrated fielding percentage. His HOF speech really rubbed me the wrong way. I enjoyed the speech honestly. What didn't you like, the "playing the game with right way" part? The sanctimonious BS, relentless self promotion and tearing down of others. A proper HOF speech thanks everybody who helpd you get there, thanks the fans, acknowledges that you were pretty good and had a good time, and that's it. It's not a freaking forum to launch your coaching job or get a gig writing about how horrible the younger generation is.

    Why? Why do people think former great players would make good managerial candidates? What is this based on? Because they are good at stuff they must be good at other stuff. It's the peter principle of sports.

    Other than the fact that he is a documented quitter, sure, he's not as bad as we like to say. But most of that is in response to irrational demands that he be given the job just because. The manager really doesn't matter all that much in the end. The Cardinals were able to win two with a drunk driving cat sexxer. Ozzie Freaking Guillen won a World Series.

    I have to think that outside of the Cubs job he was never going to be a major league manager. So, he got a shot and made more money doing that (I assume) than he ever would just bouncing around from minor league gigs and bench duty. But I did have some pity on him for being so overwhelmed.

    But for the first time, I actually feel incredibly confident that we will get Theo's prime target. It all started when Tom went after Theo and got him. The dominoes have been falling in place since then. Honestly, we are 3rd choice on that list. I agree that Cardinals job will be 3rd.

    It could never work. He should get a major league coaching job somewhere, but if it did it in Chicago the fans and media would bring up the possibility of promotion after every loss.

    You're talking about all the times he got him thrown out of minor league games? no, I'm trying to understand your implication that Ryne Sandberg = Zambrano He retired in the middle of a season, but actually did retire and didn't just freak out.

    He also quit on his team in the middle of a season and really only had a 14.5 year career. Would you want Zambrano managing the Cubs? Comparing Z and Ryno is quite comical. That's true. Z came back to the team almost immediately while Ryno actually followed through on screwing everybody over.
