  1. I'm not sure what the blah blah blah is about, but Ricketts doesn't strike me as the "get that guy out of here" type of owner. He couldn't envision it, but I think he also said he wouldn't hire a baseball guy to watch over his baseball guy and he didn't envision getting Theo and Hoyer before the offseason.
  2. Yeah, it's going to be really tough to sell guys on the whole "chance to win" idea. It's going to have to be about the money for now. You shifted your opinion entirely based on letting Ramirez walk? Huh? I think the Cubs are capable of fielding a decent team next year, but it will require bringing in a couple studs. The problem is the team without those studs pretty much sucks, so you'd have to convince them to come with money. That's been my opinion all along. The lack of Ramirez just makes the supporting cast look that much worse.
  3. Yeah, it's going to be really tough to sell guys on the whole "chance to win" idea. It's going to have to be about the money for now.
  4. I don't know how the hell you define productive or several, but that's nonsense.
  5. Correct me if I'm wrong but he pretty much sucks in the field, can't stay healthy and is unreliable at the plate.
  6. He's just comparing runs scored totals, not how they compare to the league. Obviously that doesn't make any sense. The Cubs were 8th this year and 10th last year and 2009. In 2006 they were 15th. They've definitely had worse offenses than this season.
  7. Yeah, I'm much more intrigued about the idea of a platoon than the actual implementation.
  8. 1b, starting rotation. If you really wanted to, you could probably upgrade 2b or CF with a free agent as well. They could use help at any OF position.
  9. He's either got a good chance of staying, or Epstein is doing a very good job bluffing it in order to keep his trade value reasonable. Either way, I like it. That's exactly what it is. I'd be absolutely stunned if Zambrano played another game in a Cubs uniform. I would not be so sure, and I don't know why anybody would be stunned. He's under contract to pitch for the Cubs. He's capable of pitching well. The Cubs are in desperate need of starting pitching. There's a fairly simple scenario for seeing him pitch for the Cubs. He didn't molest a Ricketts kid or anything.
  10. Well, even though his free swinging overly aggressive approach was the opposite of what I like, he made it work and was my favorite Cub this past decade. Hard to complain about consistent high end production.
  11. It was Aramis, not Zambrano. Theo basically said he'd like to have him back but wont be offering him the sort of contract he's likely to get elsewhere. Yeah, I don't know why I typed Zambrano but I realized it just as I sent it, then edited.
  12. lost the signal just as Bruce Miles was asking a question related to Ramirez
  13. Theo steps in on the Zambrano question asked to Hoyer. "It's his first day, I have to save the softballs for him." Theo has had conversations with Praver and it was enlightening. He told Levine that it sounds like he's come to his conclusion, but we have to come to ours.
  14. interesting answer about reaching a consensus on decisions without letting the media know who was arguing which side. McCleod says its too early to tell exactly how the draft will be run with regards to final say.
  15. baseball ops question Hoyer has traditional GM duties, he will be Theo's right hand man with regard to the big league club, while McCleod will be his right hand man with regards to the minor league team. He was somewhat vague in how those duties will be broken up.
  16. theo says they are getting closer to resolving manager situation they had a good long meeting we have a lot to process and we hope to have a resolution within a week. sounds to me like he is gone, but who knows
  17. A lot less excitement around this one. Still pretty crazy to realize the Cubs have a legit top notch front office.
  18. hoyer stressing the need to build a team that can be a contender every season, and the need for build from within
  19. I know a way to save $900,000. I'll be the backup C. I won't hit a lick, so I'll gain a reputation as an excellent defensive catcher that works well with pitchers. You'd still get paid the minimum so they'd only save about $400,000 (still worth it)
  20. Theo with the intros
  21. Philly is now an 8 point favorite, and I saw one 9.5 point line.
  22. What is so BS about it? He ran the business before, and runs it now. If it was just BS they would just let him go.
  23. I think he handled the lockout great. And "cramming London down our throats" isn't a dumb decisions. It's been a very smart business decision and necessary for the strength of the league going forward.
  24. You're really selling Gary Bettman short. damn, beat me to it. Did Stern retire?
  25. I question the validity of this poll. 8.5 million people watched Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals in N America. 23.5 million watched Game 6 of the NBA finals. Your poll invalidates casual fans. I'm guessing the latest poll is pretty recent, and since there isn't an NBA right now it's popularity is pretty damn low.
