    For tailgate purposes I assume. Going to NY games at 1pm allows for a decent amount of tailgating, but I feel like noon games come up too quickly in the morning. But the 4pm games are a glorious mess of beer and seared meat products. Try tailgating the early games on the West Coast. A Bloody Mary is the only thing that really sounds good early in the morning. Unless, of course, you are just continuing your buzz from the night before. Unless you wake up feeling hung over, a breakfast beer is delicious. Of course you could try a manmosa/lunch box, which is a pint of beer leaving a little space for OJ and amaretto.

    I agree they don't sound good, but they can taste quite good. I went on a bloody mary binge a few years ago after never having considered one my entire life. They are way down my list now, but I will dabble from time to time.

    He's already signed to a contract for those three years, totally $58 million. Which means the costs are controlled.

    Lowered during the game completely defeats the purpose, but I like the concept. I'd like it to have one of those sexy 70's movie feels to it, with a couple knobs and buttons on the wall that raise the screen and a liquor cabinet comes out of the wall.

    Dammit, why can't we just have noon games? Now we'll have had 1 noon game in a 6 week stretch (MNF vs. DET, SNF vs. MIN, Noon vs. TB, Bye, MNF vs. PHI, 3:15 vs. DET) I agree, but it's still better than primetime

    How is that a strange hypothetical? For one, I don't think there's much likelihood of Felix being dealt. It's been discussed for a few years now. And aside from the fact that he's very good and a hard guy to come by, it hasn't happened because they've wanted to try and win with him. But Seattle absolutely blows. Their roster is pathetic and their attendance keeps falling sharply while payroll remains high. I think it could happen.

    I'm going to miss the dude and be annoyed as hell at the Kaplan's of the world that applaud his absence and place value on the "addition by subtraction" theory.

    I'm sure they bring in extra security and some extra Roasts, but that's all I can think of. The operating costs for a game like that have got to be in the low-six figures at best. I'm with Kyle on this one. The operating costs of running a stadium for a year are big, but simply adding playoff/world series games to the calender does not add that much cost.

    I go back and forth on this idea quite a bit. On one hand, if you are going to suck, just go ahead and suck, and let your kids go through their early struggles and adjust. But at the same time, it's a shame to waste your kids' cost effective years on a horrible team and use up their options/arbitration clock. I just think throwing away 2012 is a complete non-option. It is completely unnecessary for the longterm future of the team and could do some serious damage to fan interest/patience plus stadium upgrade negotiations.

    Why only one of? You are talking about acquiring an ace. Because you have to pay the ace handsomely once you have him too. You can blow away CJ Wilson to get him for 3 years(say, 3/70), and you're only paying him 3 mil more per year to be almost as good while not gutting your organization. If you can get Wilson that's nice, but there's no guarantee the Cubs can, and if/once he signs elsewhere, you don't have that fallback option. So at that point you wouldn't include both in a trade for Felix?

    probably not. Felix is guaranteed big money for a few years while Castro remains very cost efficient. Didn't you recently say that the Cubs need to worry less about being the most efficient team and more about being the best team? Yes. The goal is not to be the most cost efficient, but to be the best. That does not mean you ignore costs. What are you trying to say?
