  1. I'd love to see it.
  2. How do you plan on implementing this idea? Start him at the beginning of the year then make him a long man after he hits a certain number of innings? Or have him be the long man early and then slide him into the rotation if he stays healthy and somebody else goes down? I don't think it's realistic to have him starting in April. The latter sounds better. I think it would be best for him to start him in AAA and be cautious until midseason. But it would probably be best for the team to have him as a long man early then extend him into starting.
  3. All I remember is Harry and/or Steve saying that when Ryno questions an ump he must be right because he's got a good eye and never argues unless he's absolutely in the right.

  7. Do most fans criticize him? I know the voices that do are loud (Sullivan/Rozner/Kaplan), but when I've attended games there Ramirez is always among the most applauded players. He doesn't take the onslaught of boos that Soriano does.
  8. Or it can be a jumbotron and a bunch of small things to make even more revenue.
  9. There are a lot of concepts more than concrete plans. The triangle building should wind up including some parking, some restaurants/bars a museum. There will probably some kind of grandstand overhaul, and despite claims to the contrary, there is room to do this on both the 3rd and 1st base sides. There is supposedly going to be some sort of other parking garage across the street either outside LF or RF corner.
  10. Nobody is saying a jumbotron will make the team better. The point is it will bring in additional revenue to allow the management to pay more to make the team better. The fact that there are other ways is pointless. You must look at all ways. And a jumbotron is one of the best ways. If a jumbotron will mean $15m a year in additional revenue and some rinky dink replacement concept would mean $3m, you don't go rinky dink. It wouldn't feel the same, but it would still be freaking awesome. There are three options: Tear down Wrigley, build a new better revenue generator. Keep Wrigley, but make necessary improvements for generate revenue. Keep Wrigley and don't add revenue generators. The first option is not all that nice, the last option is dumb, and the middle option is the only real one.
  11. Why? They aren't any good. Beating a couple other AFC West opponents is not inspiring.
  12. Jeff Baker already plays for the Cubs and racks up over 200 PA a year. In any sort of platoon at third that is all he would play anyway. So you aren't adding anything if he's replacing Ramirez. You are simply using Baker at a different position, then you have to go out and replace Jeff Baker since Jeff Baker won't be doing what Jeff Baker does anymore, he'll be RH Ramirez.
  13. I don't really understand the point of your question, but the answer to that last line is, all the time.
  14. Probably not. I really think people are grossly overrating what those guys can do. I think people are overrating what Ramirez can do. Obviously that is not true because we have actually seen what he can do. Sure he could fail to do what he can do, but he can clearly do it.
  15. If you are under contract you should plan on returning if you actually want that money. Management could still buy him out if they go with a new staff.
  16. He could just be traveling because of the dad's trip thing That could be, but if he was badly out they could say he's going to be out for a week or two weeks or however long and he could still travel with the team for the dad's trip. yeah, but since when have the blackhawks been up front about injuries?
  17. The ballpark may have contributed to that. There's been all sorts of talk about how frustrated he's been at the ballpark and how it has translated to a more aggressive approach, often on the road when he's in more friendly parks.

  19. I'm assuming it will be somewhat similar to a player's arbitration hearing, where they each give a number and the arbiter decides which one to accept. The Cubs can offer what they think is fair, Boston can offer what they think is fair, and Selig can decide. Theoretically that would force both teams to keep the demands "fair" so as to give them a better chance to win.
  20. Wow, that makes all kinds of sense. Wait, no; reverse that. I can see why that would be recklessly assumptive, but am unclear on why that makes no sense. If they wanted to keep him around to make progress and they've milked him for that progress, then dumping him now, before the thing is actually built would completely negate the progress made.

  22. Really? I think he's definitely overachieved with what he's had to work with this year. 4-3, including winning 4 in a row, while losing their best player for the season? He seems like quite the meathead, but he might be a better coach than a lot of people are giving him credit for. Myself included. Their little streak is against a bunch of mediocrity. The AFC West consistently blows, so leading that division doesn't mean much. And they have still been outscored by 40 points this year. They do get to face 2 of the worst teams next though, so they could stay above .500 until the 2nd half.
  23. This was my thought. Maybe Albert told him he's not coming back no matter what. Lots of signs pointing to him leaving, he asked Tony to sign a photo from his rookie year before game 6. That doesn't sound like someone who was planning on being together much longer. Maybe I was the one who heard the story wrong, but the way I heard the story, Pujols asked him to sign that picture after his rookie year. Tony asked if he could have a couple of days to think about what to write, and he wrote, "To the best player I've ever managed," or something along those lines. The story, as I understood it, was that he wrote that right after Albert's rookie year. Not before game 6. It was a very poorly told story, but yes, I think your interpretation is right, despite it sounding different at first.
  24. dammit, now I want a slice of Giordano's
