Maybe the dime a dozen guys, but Gonzalez, Teixeira and Cabrera are three guys who were traded at fairly young ages that brought a ton of interest on the market. It's not there's a dozen guys with a 900 OPS out there these days. Teams will still pay up for guys who actually produce a lot. Whether it's an established veteran or a hot young prospect on the verge a bit bat is a very valuable commodity. -

a 1161 equals 235 OPS+? How boring is that league? my god, there are only 2 eligible guys with an OPS over 900. You don't even go past the top 10 to see a guy below 800, top 25 to get below 700 and top 40 to get below 600. -

Would it really be that bad to shift Rizzo to a corner OF spot assuming Vogelbach is still hitting like a boss and can actually physically handle 1B? Or trade him when he's got a couple arbitration years remaining. If Rizzo really peaks at the "quite good but not particularly great" level many have assigned him then 3-4 years from now, if/when Vogelbach is ready, it could make a lot of sense to trade Rizzo if you could conceivably get more for him. -
When the most iconic name/face of a popular franchise that has been talking about winning the super bowl all summer just ups and disappears from camp without explanation you have to expect questions.

Doesn't he have a crazy baby momma? I've just been assuming it has something to do with that. stripper baby mama and he's dating a crazy vaccine denier. There's plenty of crazy in his life that could lead to any number of personal issues. I'm guessing he has whooping cough.

I can't imagine he would be excused from practice as part of negotiations. He's under contract, guys who sit out to renegotiate are subject to fines.

you don't draft a guy who looks like a whale when he's 17 years old and hope that he suddenly drops 50 lbs. most players get thicker, not thinner, as they get older. by most accounts, he's actually in better shape than he was during high school. he's always going to be fat or at least chubby, so you can pretty much assume that he's going to be a minus baserunner and first baseman. the hope is that he turns into a 30+ hr, high OBP guy and that overcomes his deficiencies in the field and on the basepaths. I've seen plenty of instances where fatty 17/18/19 year olds get into much better shape in their 20's. It's not that hard to do. As for their leverage, they decide if/when he gets a promotion and if/when he gets called up to the majors. They have plenty of leverage to try and force him into better shape.

That is not true at all. If he's too fat to play first base (or move on the basepaths) he limits his value.

How much should we read into Webb playing all but the last 8 min of the game, while we protected nearly every other starter? one of the guys on twitter (biggs maybe) was insinuating it was Tice sending a message to him that he's got a lot to learn. I don't get how you can hand the job to the guy who was so awful at it last year and then be disappointed that he's not advancing enough. Hey, maybe actually have a competition at LT in the first place.

His competition is Marshall, Bennett, Hester, Forte, the TE's and all those veteran defensive backs (plus the Bears offensive line).

Good points. Especially on Forte's receiving yards. That said, do you see Jeffery 4th in catches? If so, behind Marshall and who else? Bennett and Hester? I'm pretty sure goony wasn't a big fan of the Alshon pick to begin with. I'd personally put him 3rd behind Bennett. Possibly 2nd, but I feel much more confident saying 3rd. I wasn't a fan but that's not the issue. It's not all that realistic to think any rookie WR is going to come in and catch 60 right away. I'm very intrigued about what he's capable of down the line. But I'm not expecting a ton his rookie year.

I'd take the under on Forte and Jeffery. I don't think they will be throwing to Forte nearly as much, and the rookie will be about the 4th receiving option. As for the offense, I'm guessing they end closer to 12/13 than top 10. There's still a hell of a lot of powerful offenses that have proven it. The good domed ones will finish ahead of them. NE/GB and at least 2 of the 3 good NFC East offenses will be ahead. Remember, as positive as everybody has been about this new look, this is still Mike Tice's first go as an OC, and a whole new system for a group of guys that haven't done crap, and the line is awful. The upside is there, but I have to assume there will be a setback or two.
