  1. Giving up Bellinger's contract, so Hoyer can find more players like Boyd?
  2. I guess we'll have to disagree. The last thing the Cubs needed was to totally overpay a broken-down lefty to add to the other lefties we have in the rotation. Lorenzen would be cheaper, more durable, righty, and probably better in my opinion.
  3. Jed should have signed Lorenzen instead of Boyd and saved money in the process.
  4. I wouldn't mind if they signed Lorenzen and then mix and match at the bottom of the rotation.
  5. I like the Phillies deal if they throw in $12 million +. Castellanos becomes DH and Alvarado would add veteran experience in the late innings.
  6. Hoerner and Triantos could be the starting 2B and SS next year for them. Earlier I mentioned a trade proposal including Thaiss and Garver in a deal. Getting rid of Garver's $12 contract might be an incentive for them and would help our bench.
  7. They really have a weak middle-infield situation and they want/need Hoerner. Throw in Triantos + pitching prospects (i.e. Wicks, Wesneski) and you might get it done.
  8. Fried is better, but Flaherty would work too. Unfortunately, he's probably out of our price range too.
  9. Hoerner + 2 prospects might get you Woo. Add at least 1 more prospect to have a chance at Kirby.
  10. You really are brainwashed by Hoyer/Ricketts.
  11. Then add two more prospects and change from Miller to Gilbert/Kirby if that will make you happier.
  12. Miller had a 3.4 WAR last year and made $749,000 last year and he's not a FA until 2030. Woo had a 2.4 WAR at the same salary and same FA date. Kirby had a 1,9 WAR, same salary, FA date of 2029. Gilbert had 2.8 WAR, salary of $4 million, and FA date of 2029. All 4 of them are dirt cheap with at least 4 years of control. All of them will certainly get raises in their arbitration years, but not as much as some of what the mediocre FAs are asking.
  13. How about Hoerner + Alcantara +Wesneski + Thaiss for Miller + Garver.
  14. Since the Mariners are really interested in Hoerner, I wonder if they would do Hoerner + Alcantara + Palencia for their closer Munoz. Baseballtradevalue.com shows us overpaying, but it might be worth it to get a young, cheap, and proven closer.
  15. OMG, you mean using prospects! That's almost as bad as spending money.
  16. You do realize that Castillo has between $75 million and $100 million left on his contract over the next 3-4 years,
  17. I'll accept the fact that Stroman has regressed, and he may not be what the Cubs want or need, but saying the younger Stroman "was at least a #4" is ridiculous. His 11-year career ERA+ matches Kyle Hendricks.
  18. We can hope that they luck out and get Sasaki, but Stroman is as good as the 4th level FA starters they're looking at and saves money instead of costing money. Also, they would get 2 prospects if the rumor is true. Again, trading Bellinger is not my first choice, but it does fill a hole and might encourage Hoyer to use the money and use some prospects to fill some other holes.
  19. I posted yesterday about the rumor of Stroman, Vrieling, and Selvidge for Bellinger which might be a decent deal (if true). We fill the bottom of the rotation, get two pitching prospects, and save about $9 million this year. Trading Bellinger has to get us a player to help the MLB roster next year.
  20. If a team like the Yankees doesn't worry about breaking even on the dollars for a player that might win them a WS, then he is useful and valuable.
  21. I agree that we don't need to trade Bellinger and/or Hoerner, but that seems to be all of the Cubs' talk this offseason. There are lots of ways to improve the club, but not when the front office isn't willing to spend money or trade prospects.
  22. https://fansided.com/this-yankees-cubs-trade-would-give-new-york-an-all-star-juan-soto-backup-plan https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/cubs-trade-proposal-ships-2-time-all-star-to-yankees-to-replace-anthony-rizzo/ar-AA1uA8dE?ocid=BingNewsSerp
  23. I saw a rumor of Bellinger to the Yankees for Stroman + Selvidge + Vrieling. We save about $9 million and get 2 pitching prospects.
  24. Interesting trade proposal from BTV: Luzardo + Faucher for Alcantara + Arias + Mcgeary
  25. It looks like Ballesteros is more DH than catcher. According to Baseballtradevalues.com Ballesteros has a value of 21.9 while Raleigh is 19.8, O'Hoppe is 24.9, and Langeliers is at 20. He probably wouldn't get any of those guys alone in a trade, but adding another prospect might get it done.
