  1. Which is why we needed a real SP (or 2) at the trade deadline. Jed blew it big time.
  2. Back in the day, Ditka said "Halas throws nickels around like manhole covers" LOL
  3. Yeah, there aren't too many sentimental players left, especially with their agents telling them how much money they could get in free agency.
  4. The Cubs have been reluctant to call up top prospects rather than leaving them to play every day at AAA.
  5. Sometimes I think the Cubs get players with the thought that they will get a hometown discount after the player falls in love with Wrigley and the fans.
  6. The 80% that worry more about profit than winning are probably small-to-middle market teams. We should be compared to the major market teams and not Sacramento/Oakland or Kansas City.
  7. "My biggest disagreement with several posters is I just don’t see it as a foregone conclusion they aren’t even going to be competitive for him." The question is whose definition of "being competitive" are we going to use. According to the Cubs, they have made "competitive offers" to many of the big-time FAs over the years.
  8. I wish I could be as confident as some of you that 4-5 rookies and going to come up and replace solid ML players.
  9. And then dumpster dive and put more money into Ricketts pockets,
  10. For a ton of money.
  11. Giants are listening on Doval. I would love to get Doval and Flores. The price should be cheap - BTV has Doval at 3.5 and Flores at -.7. Doval is reaching arbitration next year and doesn't hit FA until 2028.
  12. Getting Tauchman is a no brainer. Covers all 3 OF positions, great at getting on base, and the cost should be cheap.
  13. Suzuki is slumping and looks like he needs a rest, Tucker is slumping and looks like he needs a rest, Busch is hitting .190/.261/.317/.578 against LHP, and we can't use Diaz??????????? BTW, adding Pepiot and Fairbanks certainly would improve the team too.
  14. Give each of the OFs a day off once a week and use Diaz as the DH which will give him plenty of ABs. He can start at 1B against tough LHP.
  15. Bat off the bench, RH sub for Busch are other options
  16. How about Pepiot + Diaz + Fairbanks for Alcantara + Triantos + Brown + Wicks.
  17. I saw the Yankees and Dodgers are asking about Brendan Donovan from the Cards. I know the Cards don't want to deal with us, but Donovan would solve the 3B problem. BTV has Donovan at 39 and Shaw at 32, so Shaw plus a prospect for Donovan looks good to me.
  18. I think you're right, but Hoyer could have given Mervis away and found someone wandering the streets near Wrigley instead of Brujan.
  19. I thought Hoyer should have been fired when he signed him.
  20. They need a bat off the bench who can get on base and someone who can sub for all 3 OF positions. As for needing a RH hitter, his splits for his whole career are better against lefties than righties: .267/.359/.395 against lefties and .241/.345/.384 against righties.
  21. I suggested that the Cubs trade for both of them using a couple of low-end prospects. Hauser helps us get to the playoffs and Tauchman gives us a solid bench bat and some OF relief during the dog days of summer. A real no-brainer that doesn't interfere with any of our other trade plans, improves the team, and costs almost nothing.
  22. Whatever ABs he gets would be quality ABs as opposed to Brujan, Berti, and Turner (against RHP).
  23. They ought to trade a couple of low prospects for Hauser and Tauchman.
  24. Giving Brujan a start before DFAing him in a week.
