  1. Expand the deal to include a utility IF along with the major target i.e. Early + Kiner-Falefa for Shaw + low pitching prospect.
  2. It doesn't have to be hindsight because Shaw's trade value is 35.2 according to BTV (down from about 43 during the off season). Some interesting players out there are Miller (29.6), Rasmussen (24.5), Ryan (49.6), Tolle (35.2), Early (31.8), Alcantara (16.1), Gil (11.1), W. Abreu (32.3), Duran (43.6), and Chisholm (20.6). I'm not saying all of those players are currently available (or the other team is willing to trade), but most of those players would be more valuable to the Cubs than a utility player.
  3. That's why I proposed trading him in the offseason. He had a ton of trade value according to BTV, but it will probably decrease pretty rapidly as a backup IF and a below average backup OF/1B. The left side of the infield is locked up long-term so we could have signed a mediocre backup IF for under $3million.
  4. He is much much much cheaper because he's not nearly as good as Hoerner.
  5. I'm more worried about the Cubs going cheap and the RNC getting a huge donation.
  6. I'm not crazy about giving Jed (and Ricketts) that much money to play with. I'm sure they will try to go cheap in 1 or 2 of those spots, which will discourage top FAs from considering the Cubs.
  7. Enjoy it while you can because there's a good chance we might let our 2B, LF, and RF walk after this season.
  8. I'm hoping the Orioles DFA Mountcastle. He would be a great option for a RH bat.
  9. I was referring to Hoyer when I said he must not read NSBB because many posters (including you and I) stated often that Tauchman would be a good addition.
  10. Unfortunately, he must not read NSBB because Tauchman was mentioned by quite a few posters over the last few months as a good addition.
  11. Those guys played on terrible teams, which is why they got that many PAs. With the Cubs' IF, they won't get more than 200 PAs unless there's a catastrophic injury.
  12. Yeah, any of those guys would work and should cost no more than $4-5 million.
  13. I'm all for it. We can get a utility IF pretty cheap to replace Shaw.
  14. There would have to be many more players involved because Duran's trade value is 41.9, while Paredes is only 12.9. Alcantara's trade value is only 6.2.
  15. Goldschmidt back to the Yankees for about $5 million. I would love having him instead of Austin as a RH 1B/DH.
  16. Going back to the 50s and 60s, Mo reminds me of Smoky Burgess. He was a short, squat catcher who was a doubles machine.
  17. It depends on what your team needs. The Cubs needed a 3B that can hit more than another SP.
  18. So, pay it and use the extra money to help sign Gallen or give an extension to Nico.
  19. Everyone said that the files contained a bunch of rich, old, white men.
  20. I would love to see him get some practice as a 1B. His height would be an asset and if he learned to hit, he could be a RH Bellinger.
  21. This is the trade I mentioned a while ago. You won't get Abreu and Tolle for Hoerner, but you might get them for Shaw + Wicks + Brown and I would do that in a minute. I also mentioned Ramon Urias as a backup.
  22. His trade value according to BTV is 44.1. I can't see how his value is going to go up as a utility infielder unless someone gets hurt long-term and he fills in spectacularly. Perhaps the deal I suggested wasn't as good as you would like, but it was certainly better than the ones mentioned for Hoerner. Now is the time to take advantage of his high trade value and get what this team needs for 2026 and beyond. You want top pitching prospects. then broker a deal with Shaw+ Brown for Abreu + Early or Shaw+ Brown + Wicks for Abreu + Tolle.
  23. I will agree that he's young, has potential, and has a lot of control, but his OPS+ was 98 last year. so it's not like he's a "sure thing" star right now.
  24. My trade proposal would bring in a solid, cheap OF with a few years of control. The difference in letting the cheap players sink or swim is that Shaw's trade value is ridiculously high right now and the other players aren't rated that high.
