  1. Amen to that. I sure can't blame Swanson for taking that kind of contract if someone is craze enough to offer it.
  2. An example of not cashing in on his trade value as a "highly touted prospect". I worry that the same is going to happen with many of our "highly touted prospects."
  3. To me the biggest complaint about Swanson has always been his contract.
  4. It's just not pure stats in making that kind of decision. Happ is the most senior Cub and one of the leaders on the team. It would disrupt the team chemistry in the last quarter of the season. Most of us have pretty much accepted that we're not winning the division, so why rock the boat going into the last part of the season. I agree about giving Cassie more playing time and ABs, but not by benching Happ.
  5. All of the bluster about Shaw being better than Smith, the point is that Smith is a year younger than Shaw and had less minor league experience than Shaw. Both are still learning, but it will be interesting to see what Smith is capable of in a year or two.
  6. Apparently, I missed this trade because Castro has a slash line of .143/.143/.200 with an OPS+ of -1.
  7. You know the season is over when the message board is discussing the pros and cons of the PA announcer and the stretch singers.
  8. He'll come out of it when he's playing for another team next year.
  9. There goes the hope of a hometown discount because everyone loves playing at Wrigley and the adoration of Cub fans.
  10. Probably a bunch of prospects so PTR can maximize profits.
  11. I don't know, but a lineup of swing-and-miss guys isn't going to go very far.
  12. Here we go again. After all the rumors about trading Hoerner last offseason, you want to trade the only hitter on the team who understands the value of putting the ball into play.
  13. Dansby isn't going anywhere with that ridiculous contract.
  14. He did pick up a .160 hitter with an OPS of 15 that can play 6 positions though.
  15. PTR is the most inept because he hired Jed who then hired Hawkins.
  16. At least we can continue getting a Participation Award.
  17. And that certainly means trading good prospects to get elite players (Ryan, Gore, etc.)
  18. Kelly had a total of 4.1 WAR over 9 seasons before this year. He was signed to be a backup C and was leading the league in OPS certainly qualifies as a surprise. Boyd had a total of 9.7 WAR over 7 years before this one and hadn't pitched over 80 innings for the last 5 seasons and now is in the running for the Cy Young award. Pomeranz had 2 good years in the 15 years before this one. This year he had weeks of not giving up any runs. Palencia never showed much in his ml career and now he is a shut-down closer for a playoff bound team. The Brewers certainly have had surprise players who have exceeded their expectations, but The Cubs have too.
  19. There are always surprise players that exceed expectations when a team is doing well. On the Cubs you have players like Kelly, Pomeranz, Palencia, and Boyd.
  20. Who said that Bieber would have cost Wiggins? The Blue Jays got him for a 22-year-old A-ball pitcher.
  21. The number one thing he had to do was get a SP. The last time Soroka was an effective SP was 2019 and he has a history of arm problems. Bieber was out there if he wanted to take a gamble.
