    I would love to see him get some practice as a 1B. His height would be an asset and if he learned to hit, he could be a RH Bellinger.

    This is the trade I mentioned a while ago. You won't get Abreu and Tolle for Hoerner, but you might get them for Shaw + Wicks + Brown and I would do that in a minute. I also mentioned Ramon Urias as a backup.

    His trade value according to BTV is 44.1. I can't see how his value is going to go up as a utility infielder unless someone gets hurt long-term and he fills in spectacularly. Perhaps the deal I suggested wasn't as good as you would like, but it was certainly better than the ones mentioned for Hoerner. Now is the time to take advantage of his high trade value and get what this team needs for 2026 and beyond. You want top pitching prospects. then broker a deal with Shaw+ Brown for Abreu + Early or Shaw+ Brown + Wicks for Abreu + Tolle.

    I will agree that he's young, has potential, and has a lot of control, but his OPS+ was 98 last year. so it's not like he's a "sure thing" star right now.

    My trade proposal would bring in a solid, cheap OF with a few years of control. The difference in letting the cheap players sink or swim is that Shaw's trade value is ridiculously high right now and the other players aren't rated that high.

    Abreu plays a position we can use and is super cheap. Bello is young and can be a solid 3 or 4 in the rotation and has a team friendly contract for the next few years. Getting 2 young, experienced, and cheap starters for a young utility infielder sounds like a good deal to me.

    And if Shaw doesn't have a great year, then what? Most of Shaw's extremely high value comes from his years of control. A bad year and one less year of control easily cuts his trade value in half.

    Shaw + Taillon + Wicks + Long + $6 million to Boston for Abreau + Bello. Sign Ramon Urias for UT.

    Shaw's trade value at BTv is 44.1, while Hoerner's is 16.1. Putting Shaw in a package could probably get us a very good bat and a utility IF.

    I didn't say that BTV was the absolute guide in making a trade, but I was just showing BobbyD3 that there is enough trade value to get Lopez or Lopez and Buxton if both sides were willing. I didn't even use some of our top prospects like Wiggins, Rojas, etc. To get what we want/need, Hoyer is going to have to overpay in cash or prospects which is why he's not going to do it.

    According to BTV Lopez has a trade value of 16.3 and Buxton is at 19.5. Here are the trade values of Cubs prospects: Alcantara 7.8, Ballesteros 22.1, Cassie 19.4, Brown 12.4, Wicks 8.3, Triantos 9.3, Birdsell 3.3, Long 5.9, Little 16.5, etc. There is certainly enough trade value in our prospects to get Lopez alone or Lopez and Buxton if both FOs are motivated to do it.

    Unfortunately, all of us go on and on for pages about the top FAs and pretending the Cubs will sign them.

    I'll repeat what I've said before. How do we know what the Cubs offered last year? The only numbers that are officially noted are when the player signs a contract. My guess is that the FO leaks the information that their offer was "competitive and considered" to appease the fans.

    Everyone keeps mentioning Gallen, like it's a sure thing. As soon as his agent starts talking contract terms the Cubs might fold again.

    Jed traded 3 players for Tucker who basically had a 1-year option.

    Extending Nico and possibly Kelly costs $$$. Hope Gallen signs and performs, hope Cassie can match either Happ or Suzuki, and then fill at least two holes with 2027 inflated contracts. Does that sound like a solid plan for a major market team?

    Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but let's not give all the credit to Zobrist for the WS win. As I said before the 2015 Cubs were a very good club (97 wins) and many players increased their WAR from 2015 to 2016: i.e. Russell (1.1), Bryant (2.9), Fowler (1.7), Baez (2.1), Ross (1.8), Lester (3.2), and Hendricks (3.7).

    Zobrist helped a very good team win the WS. Dawson helped a team that was terrible for years get to 1st place. Dawson gets my vote for being the much better player.

    I like Mo and I agree he can hit, but he seems to be destined to be a DH. I think he would make a great addition to a trade package to get a SP. Using BTV, Ballesteros @22, Wicks @ 8.3, Brown @ 12.4, etc. certainly puts you in or near Cabrera @ 27.6 or Ryan @ 52.5 territory.

    PTR and Jed don't believe in spending future money either.

    All this talk about Bregman is silly. He made $36 million last year and walked away from $41.5 million for each of 2026 and 2027. These kinds of numbers are far so beyond Jed's allowance that it makes his head spin.

    Where are you getting the money for Bregman?

    I quoted you accurately using the word "OR". We'll see how exaggerated the numbers will be, but if we can't spend $10 - $15 million on an area of need, then why are we all pretending on Bregman "OR" a front-end pitcher?
