  1. I agree with Chibears that all of these "rumors" are just reporters matching needs with names. The Cubs have been linked to numerous SP, RP, and 3B because those are their needs.
  2. One reason is that Cassie is not the starting OF on the Cubs (yet), while Shaw is the starting 3B.
  3. Unfortunately, it would take eating more than a little of Dansby's contract. I don't think there would be much interest in a 33-year-old SS owed $81 million over 3 years.
  4. It's hard to criticize an owner that takes his obscene profits and put it into improving the team. If only we had one of those.
  5. Well, I agree with you if your scenario of 2-3 starters are going to be on the DL by the deadline, but that wasn't what I initially posted.
  6. Using my scenario, a great reason to trade Taillon at the deadline is to get something of value to complement the roster rather than letting him walk and get nothing at the end of the season.
  7. Assuming we get a TOR, the rotation looks strong and with Steele coming back in May/June, Jamo would be a strong deadline trade asset.
  8. A cheap solution to the bench might be trading for Josh Smith who literally plays every position except catcher and pitcher. He had a 3 WAR season with a line of .251/.335/.366 with 23 doubles and 10 HR. Speaking of Texas, I'd love to get Josh Jung.
  9. I saw that Mountcastle was probably going to be non-tendered. He might be a good fit for platoon 1B/DH/PH, but I'm sure some team will offer him more playing time.
  10. Cabrera, King, and Andujar would be pretty cheap financially. Luis Urias could be our new Brujan/Berti.
  11. Hoyer has to wait it out until prices drop and good players are gone.
  12. Hopefully something significant will happen.
  13. I love the off season when "experts" give "inside" information. The Cubs are looking for TOR pitcher, Cease is a TOR pitcher, therefore Cubs are targeting Cease.
  14. Go all in on King, trade for Cabrera, and trade for Jung.
  15. It drives me crazy when we hear about the "supposed" offers made by the Cubs when they fail to sign someone. None of us (including the media) has any idea what an offer was, and the speculation is leaked by the FO or agents. Ricketts and Hoyer have the same credibility as Trump and his staff. Most of the local media insiders are just reporting what Hoyer tells them.
  16. Most of my memories of Burgess was with the Pirates in the early 60's. He was short, round, and could hit like crazy. He played for quite a few teams in a long career that spanned the 50's and 60's. As my username suggests I became a fan when Ernie was a rookie.
  17. Mo reminds me of Smoky Burgess, except Burgess could catch. For those of you who aren't baby boomers, see if you can find video of Burgess.
  18. Hoyer can't get creative when he doesn't want to spend money or trade prospects.
  19. If Long could make the team, we would be in great shape. He could be a platoon DH/1B.
  20. Apparently, you must be dreaming because Swanson and I are two generations apart.
  21. Spending more money puts the responsibility of spending it wisely on Hoyer.
  22. They will put Mo at DH, Suzuki in RF, and pocket the money.
  23. Sounds a lot like the Cubs during the regular season. They pounded all of the weakest pitchers on the lousiest teams, but now they have to face good teams.
  24. It would be great if long could make the ML roster next year. A perfect (and cheap) platoon DH/1B.
