  1. Hoyer can't get creative when he doesn't want to spend money or trade prospects.
  2. If Long could make the team, we would be in great shape. He could be a platoon DH/1B.
  3. Apparently, you must be dreaming because Swanson and I are two generations apart.
  4. Spending more money puts the responsibility of spending it wisely on Hoyer.
  5. They will put Mo at DH, Suzuki in RF, and pocket the money.
  6. Sounds a lot like the Cubs during the regular season. They pounded all of the weakest pitchers on the lousiest teams, but now they have to face good teams.
  7. It would be great if long could make the ML roster next year. A perfect (and cheap) platoon DH/1B.
  8. All I said was that the call changed the momentum of the game. Actually, it was a very bad call.
  9. One bad call by the umpire changed the momentum in the Padre game. It's unfortunate, but it happens.
  10. Actually, he is a great defensive SS with an average bat making superstar money.
  11. I'll take an average defender with an above average bat for $27 million per year anyday.
  12. He gets a lot of his WAR value because of his great defense. His critics complain about his offence.
  13. Swanson and De La Cruz are very similar in their stats, both for their careers and this season. Swanson certainly has the edge defensively, but Cruz has speed and is a switch hitter.
  14. In sports, you pay for the name and hope for expected return.
  15. My point is that the manager has very little effect on a team.
  16. Most managers get more credit and blame than they deserve. He's not a C+, but the Cubs have the best roster in their division, so they should have a good record no matter who the manages the team. He left the Brewers and look at their record.
  17. He has been in 25 games of the 37 that the Cubs have played since the trade deadline. Nothing in his performance offensively in those games has shown that he deserves more playing time. It would be great if he found his groove, but the way things have been going we certainly don't need another .159 hitter in the lineup.
  18. I do think that if he became more proficient at it, he might reduce his Ks and increase is OBP and BA. With his speed, a bunt single very well end up with him at 2B. I know everybody loves the HR hitter, but he may be more valuable batting .280 with OBP of .330 with 25 HRs.
  19. Yeah, the wind blowing in affects both teams. I got a kick out of Boog & JD talking about how big the outfield is in Colorado when they're hits were falling in while our guys were striking out against the starter with the lowest strike out rate in the league.
  20. HR hitters make more money.
  21. The Orioles announced this afternoon that right-hander Cody Poteet has been activated from the 60-day injured list and outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk. The club had not previously announced that Poteet was placed on waivers, but he evidently cleared and now will head to the minor leagues if he accepts the assignment.
  22. Tell me which GM would be willing to take Swanson with his $109 million contract and text Jed with the information. His hitting comps are: Didi Gregorius (945.9) Stephen Drew (932.7) Alex Gonzalez (915.1) Javier Báez (914.3) Jeff Blauser (908.5) Jason Kipnis (906.5) Darren Daulton (901.1) Brian Dozier (898.4) Willy Adames (896.3) Freddy Galvis (
  23. If you're into watching an excellent fielder who is an average hitter and is still owed over $110 million.
  24. What I want is for the Cubs to realize that developing young players helps the team in two different ways. One way is to contribute to the ML team by playing and the other way is to use their value to obtain ML players when the time is right. This year was the perfect time to trade some "highly touted prospects" to get a controlled TOR starter.
