I think there are some teams that would take a chance on Morel (or PCA) with the thought of fixing him. As for "little to no trade value", that describes most of the Cub's roster.

Hoyer is waiting for players like Morel to lose all of his trade value before dumping him for next too nothing.

He should be cheap and if you extend him, you have one less hole to fill for next year.

The problem is that many posters believe only in the sites that prove what they want to prove. My only complaint about the site is they seem to value years of control more than success at the ML level, which is why PCA is "more valuable" than Robert. That's why I padded our offer because we know the WS wouldn't accept a one-for-one deal in the real world.

Wesneski (7.2) + Wicks (19.2) + Thompson (.8) + PCA (38.2) for Robert (36.4) + Kopach (-1). Numbers according to Baseball Trade Values. Huge overpay by the Cubs according to the numbers.

If Hoyer would be willing to trade some prospects instead of holding onto them, we could outbid either of those teams. We have the assets to trade for Vlad, Robert, or Paredes to solve our offensive problems.

He would be great, but you're talking 4-5 top prospects to get him.

I would gladly trade PCA for Robert straight up, but the WS wouldn't do that deal. PCA is a great fielder and baserunner but has no bat. A team that is loaded offensively can afford to play him every day, but that's not the Cubs.

All the rumors are hinting that the Cubs go after Alonso, who costs more than Vlad. Move Busch to 3rd where he probably can play better than Morel.

You trade Morel as part of the package to get Vlad and Jansen. You trade PCA as part of the package to get Robert. You move Busch to 3rd base. Vlad, Hoerner, Swanson, Busch, Happ, Robert, Suzuki, Jansen as a starting lineup might be strong enough to put us in contention this year and for the next 3-4 years.

I like Shaw a lot, but before we put him in any position, we need to find out whether he can hit ML pitching. That's true about all of our top prospects which is why I think we need to start trading some of them before they lose their trade value. I'm all for overpaying for players like Robert and/or Vlad Jr.

The difference is that hitting coaches are now emphasizing launch angles and power, rather than hitting for average. Strike outs and home runs dominate baseball instead of getting on base.

The impact bat that they should be looking at is either Vlad Jr. or Robert. I'm ready to trade some of our top prospects (including PCA and/or Morel) for a young, controllable player who has proven he can hit ML pitching. -
I hope we do go on a win streak, but I'm not sure much is going to change with Rickets reluctant to spend and Hoyer reluctant to trade prospects in order to make this a solid team that could go deep in the playoffs.

Hoerner is 27, so how is that aging? I suggested trading PCA and Morel before the season and posters went bonkers. I'm all for trading them now, but Hoyer and Rickets have given up on this season and are planning another cheap rebuild for next year. Putting PCA and/or Morel out there gives you a shot at almost any young controllable player. Another season of watching them struggle below the Mendosa line makes them worthless as trade bait. It's a shame that Swanson has negative trade value because he's the one we should trade.

The only reason people mention Hoerner is because he has the most trade value. It's a shame we can't trade Swanson because of his terrible contract. Trade PCA and Morel this offseason before they lose their trade value.

I think the Cubs ought to be a combination of buyers and sellers. Trade Bellinger, Taillon, Hendricks, Smyly, Hoerner, Happ, or Suzuki for prospects, while trading PCA, Morel, Alcantra, Triantos, etc. for young controllable stars like Guerrero, Robert, Luzardo, Woo, etc. It's great to have all of these top prospects, but players like Mervis, PCA, Amaya, Morel, etc. have shown that minor league stats don't always translate into major league success.

You must have some other players having bad seasons if Morel leads majors in homers and Imanaga and Steele become a great duo atop the rotation and the Cubs "only" win 88 games.

I do think Shaw is a top prospect, but I don't get too excited about any prospect until they come up to the Majors and show what they can do. Minor league stats are great for ranking prospects, but they don't always translate into success at the ML level.

If Swanson got hurt, Hoerner moves to SS and Morel gets to finally play a position that he's able to handle at 2B.

People suggesting .850 or even .800 would make him a 1st ballot HOFer with his fielding ability. Let's be a little more realistic.

He could have a long career as a solid CF on a team with enough offense to make up for it.

No he's pretty bad, but he can hit.

Giants put Davis on waivers if we don't have enough good batting/lousy fielding 3B/1B/DH candidates.
