  1. Bieber + Naylor for Wesneski + Widom + Mervis. Kim for Wicks + Madrigal Sign Bellinger other trade possibilities include Josh Bell (negative trade value), Scott, and either Meyer or Cabrera from the Marlins J. D. Davis, Jansen (negative trade value). Of course, if you want to throw Morel's (or PCA') name out there, we can get to the next level of players like Luzardo, Clase, Paredes, etc.
  2. The new motto is "wait until next year (or maybe the year after)." I know that we have a good minor league system, but every year we don't win the division gives the Cardinals time to reload, gives the Reds youth movement time to develop, etc. This is/was the year to take the division by storm because the right players are/were available to make us the dominant team.
  3. I just have trouble watching the Cubs tanking whole seasons with the hope that something will come out of it in the end. I think Theo was the one that said "every season is sacred." As for Hoyer, he certainly isn't Epstein. He has basically followed Epstein for most of his career. At least Epstein had a track record of success whereas Hoyer has basked in Epstein's success. As for Hendry, I do think he has gotten a bad rap from many posters here. He did get to three postseasons in 10 years.
  4. You're right a record of 228 - 258 (.469) since taking over complete control as President of Baseball Operations with the biggest market team in a division of mid- to- small market teams doesn't get me very excited, but I know the drill "wait until next year".
  5. I also added "or anyone else that would have an impact on this team".
  6. Are you kidding? Jed would refuse to trade the prospects necessary to acquire someone like Bergman or Tucker or anyone else that would really have an impact on this team.
  7. I totally agree. Having depth is one thing, but having a glut of "potentially good prospects" while there are holes in the current roster doesn't make any sense. Some of these players have high trade value which could decrease a lot if they struggle at all. Decide which players truly have the potential and a path to the ML level and then package some of the rest to acquire what we need now.
  8. That and "Wait until next year" are the Jed's plan.
  9. Don't forget Bellinger played 6 years in LA, so it's not like he might pick a completely foreign city without knowing anything about it. Of course playing for the Angels is exactly like playing for the Dodgers, but the living arrangements and lifestyle would be the same.
  10. It depends, but if the difference in money is something like $25 million most people can deal with weather, new schools, traveling to see family, etc. People take new jobs for a lot less money with those same circumstances and they acclimate and make it work.
  11. But what if it's the difference between $78 million over 3 years or $150 over 7 years?
  12. You make that sound like a bad thing. Why wouldn't a good player hire Boras with his track record. You have a limited number of playing years in your career and you might as well get the most money you can.
  13. Not even close according to MLBTV. Morel/ Wicks gets you about 2/3 of the way to Luzardo.
  14. Yeah as reluctant as Jed has been about trading prospects, the third proposal is certainly the least likely to happen. I would still like to swing a deal for Bell and Scott (and maybe Cabrera) using non-Morel prospects.
  15. 3 random trade proposals from MLBTV today: Scott for Madrigal + Mervis Scott + Meyer for Morel Luzardo for Morel + Wesneski + Ballesteros + Mervis
  16. The Cu in CF.bs need a power/middle of the order bat. Bellinger is that, but I don't think PCA will ever be. PCA will have value with his skill set, but not in the power department. Now if the Cubs had 2-3 real power bats, then PCA makes a lot of sense
  17. But we don't have Zobrist, Fowler, Heyward, Lester, Arrieta, Wood, Lackey, and Chapman providing support in case they don't succeed.
  18. 50th best offensive player means they are probably the 2nd best offensive player on the team.
  19. Posters keep mentioning becoming perennial contenders like the Braves/Dodgers/Astros, but first you have to win in 2024 and 2025 and then worry about 2026 and beyond.
  20. Trades can be made at any point, but Jed doesn't seem to be willing to trade any of our prospects. I'm not sure we will necessarily be 2024 favorites (especially if we don't sign Bellinger). The farm system is good and deep, but that doesn't help in 2024 unless we use some of them to acquire what the ML roster needs. It's great to have high potential prospects, but they're still "just prospects" until they prove themselves at the ML level.
  21. Yes I have which is why so many people are frustrated with what the Cubs off season. The NL Central is really weak and we have the assets in money and prospects to be perennial favorites like the Braves, Astros, and Dodgers for the next 5 years. Instead we seem to be on a mission to be "fiscally responsible", not make trades, and squeak into the playoffs.
  22. Going into the seas on with question marks at 1B, 3B, CF, unproven SP, etc., does not bode well for winning a weak NL Central.
  23. Morel certainly has more swing and miss since Clemente only averaged 12% strikeout rate over his plate appearances. Obviously Clemente also was a .300 hitter. As for power, they may be similar.
  24. Yeah according to MLBTV Morel is a huge overpay for Bieber alone and adding Naylor would be great (and still an overpay), but convincing the Guardians to give up one of their offensive stars could be a problem. Try Wisdom, Mervis, and Morel for Naylor and Bieber as a basis and then tweak each side with prospects.
