  1. The rest of my Christmas list included signing Bellinger, and trading for Naylor, Bieber, and Clase. Adding Bellinger, Naylor, and Moncada to the lineup adds more than enough offense to win the divsion. This trade reminds me of the first Cease trade, where we needed a solid, established SP (Quintana) and had to give up two of our top prospects (Jimenez and Cease).
  2. I looked at BBTV too, but I think in today's situation you're going to have to overpay to get the quality you want/need or else some other team is going to outbid you. Any of the kind of pitchers like Cease, Gilbert, Luzardo, etc. are going to cost you either PCA or Morel. There's a reason that PCA, Morel, and Horton have high trade values and other GMs know it. Most of our "prized prospects" that Jed overvalues are secondary pieces in a trade for a star player.
  3. Part of my Christmas wish list from the last page was trade Morel + Wesneski + Triantos for Cease + Moncada. If the WS want young pitching, maybe switch Wicks for Triantos.
  4. Naylor, Hoerner, Swanson, Moncada, Happ, Bellinger, Suzuki, Gomes/Amaya looks like a solid core of players for quite a few years age wise (except for Gomes). A rotation of Cease, Steele, Taillon, Bieber, Hendricks, Assad, Wicks and a bullpen of Smyly, Cuas, Merryweather, Alzolay, Clase, Thompson, Leiter, etc. DH - Wisdom, Tauchman, Madrigal
  5. Christmas wish list: 1. Sign Bellinger 2. Trade Morel + Wesneski + Triantos for Cease + Moncada 3. Trade PCA + Brown + Mervis for Naylor + Bieber + Clase
  6. I understand the value of defense, but we need some offensive players in that 4,5 fWAR range.
  7. Jed is just going have to accept the facts that: 1. FAs cost more than they should and want more years than he's comfortable with, 2. To get quality players in trades, you're going to have to give up better prospects. The longer he waits, the more likely other teams will decide to get busy on Hoskins, Clase, Bieber, Cease, Bellinger, Chapman, Naylor, Alonso, etc.
  8. It's all about the bottom line. More night games = more money in his pocket.
  9. You can say that about every prospect which is why I said you need to cash in on some of those prospects while their value is sky high. The NL Central is easily winnable this year with the right moves. IMO, some of the right moves are signing Bellinger, trading PCA for a young, controlled TOR, and with signing Hoskins which would make us favorites for the Division for the next few years.
  10. I would rather take my chances on a 28-year-old with a proven track record of gold gloves, all-star appearances, multiple top-ten MVP finishes, that had a slash line of .307/.356/.525 last year. If he was 32 or 33 years old or a bad CF, I might understand taking a chance on picking PCA over him, but he's not. Also, we need to take into account what kind of return we could get for a deal involving PCA. If PCA turns into a very good MLB player, that's the chance you take by playing with real contenders in the ML.
  11. The key is trading them for a significant player before they lose their trade value. The Cubs seem to be good at waiting too long and then the prospect is worthless. I think PCA could be a perfect example of that. If he struggles his value goes from the highest on the team to a throw in on a minor deal. Sign Bellinger and trade PCA for a young, controlled SP..
  12. Brennen Davis, OF By every account, Davis is a great guy, a hard worker, and a very talented ballplayer. Sometimes, when it comes to trying to win baseball games, none of that ends up mattering. Injuries have stolen all the promise from Davis, and while there might still lurk some spark of hope for a resurgent season or two and a modest big-league career, he's little more than a phantom on the Cubs roster now. He's a long-levered, tragic reminder that Kevin Alcantara is no sure thing. It should serve as a reminder that all of the highly valued prospects the Cubs seem to be waiting for are not sure things either. Sign Bellinger, trade PCA+ for a young, controlled TOR, and either sign Hoskins or make the Guardian trade for Beiber/Naylor.
  13. The Cubs have good prospects at every position and yet they have holes to fill on the ML roster. As history has proven, not all of these prospects will pan out. Now is the time to use the trade value of some of these prospects to acquire star quality ML players. For example, right now PCA has the highest trade value on the team. If he shows he can't hit ML pitching, his value drops to zero. We also have a multitude of OF prospects who have excellent trade value, but we have Happ & Suzuki on long term deals.
  14. Tell them we would be glad to take Ramirez too, if it will help with their money issue.
  15. I'd love to get Naylor, but I can't see the Guardians really wanting to move him since they struggle offensively.
  16. PCA and Wesneski is nowhere near enough to get him.
  17. One reason to trade PCA is that he has the highest trade value on the Cubs. A couple of hypothetical trades from MLBTV would certainly fill most of the major holes on the team. Wesneski + PCA for Bieber + Clase + Naylor Alcantra + PCA + Palencia + Triantos + Wicks for Cease + Robert + Moncada As everyone has stated before, the problem is that Hoyer doesn't want to spend the money or give the years to sign a star and he doesn't want to trade the prospects necessary to make a big trade.
  18. I wonder if Counsell can play 3B.
  19. We wouldn't have a hole in CF if we signed Bellinger. Bellinger is still young enough to be play excellent CF for another 5-6 years. Trading PCA opens up the possibility of getting a young TOR pitcher at a controlled salary for a few more years.
  20. Don't worry we've got Mervis and Tauchman
  21. It's a good thing we don't need a SP and a ML CF.
  22. Signing Bellinger makes so much sense (great CF, LH slugger, still reasonably young, etc.) that I don't understand all of the discussion. Trading PCA opens up the possibilities of getting almost any young, TOR pitcher. Sign Hoskins and the team is loaded with talent.
  23. As a lifelong Cub fan, I totally agree with your post. I am shocked at the number of Cub fans who really believed that Ricketts was going to spend upwards of $500 million on one player. As for all of the quotes by "experts", there job is to get followers in order to make money. If there's no news to report, just make up "news".
