  1. Tbf both the next Bregman *and* Machado are said to be in the org as well We seem to have a lot of "future Hall of Famers" in the organization, but somehow it loses something by the time they get here.
  2. Who needs Machado when we have Wisdom, Rios, and Madrigal.
  3. My list of options never mentioned getting anything of value. Then there’s no point in anyone in the FO ever exploring trading him since it’s a waste of time There might have been someone out there that might be a better fit for the team (BP?) or someone with options left. The White Sox before getting Andrus might have taken a flyer on Bote as 2B/backup 3B.
  4. You were never getting anything of value for Bote, even before his contract extension. My list of options never mentioned getting anything of value.
  5. The Cubs should have traded Bote when they had a chance. Take another over-paid/negative trade value player, pay part of his contract, get some minor league roster filler, etc.
  6. So long as there’s cap space it’s more of a “sure, it’s your funeral anyway” thing on who, how, when, where, and what the money is spent. Heck because all the cool kids did it and there’s a network, some real estate, and probably more serious agendas to promote (2024’s an election year!)…they might even gift us a biscuit and go over for a couple years Hate to quote myself but here’s Tom Ricketts: :confetticannon: I'll wait and see what happens before I believe him.
  7. He certainly is muscular @ 5'11" and 195 lbs.
  8. Rios and Wisdom forming a nice platoon means Ricketts can avoid spending money on Machado next year.
  9. Can't believe we couldn't have matched/topped that offer for Puk. Within a few hours, we could have solved our LHRP problems with either Puk or Chafin.
  10. From MLBTR: The Diamondbacks have agreed to a reunion with Andrew Chafin, as the veteran left-hander will rejoin his original team on a one-year deal with a club option for the 2024 season. Chafin will earn a $5.5MM salary in 2023, and Arizona’s club option is worth $7.25MM (with a $750K buyout). Up to $1MM in bonus money is also available for Chafin if he makes at least 55 appearances in 2023. Sounds like a great deal for the DBacks.
  11. That's pretty much what I've been reading.
  12. For better or for worse, that was a 108 win team that probably underperformed. Everyone in charge seems content to shoot for low 90s. More like low 80s.
  13. No surprise there because he's basically free.
  14. Are you willing to give up Morel or PCA?
  15. Maybe the Giants won't like his medical records and we can come in and swoop him up for less money.
  16. MLBTV has him at -2 trade value. It's almost like MLBTV's numbers are just made up. :-k They seem to value years of control over ability sometimes.
  17. According to MLBTV, Escobar also has negative value (though Bote's is worse). That's why prospects might need to be added. How in the world does Escobar have negative value?? He makes only $10 mil this year and is expiring. He can play multiple positions and is average to plusish at them. He’s put up 2.3, 2.6, -.5 (COVID year), 2.9 and 3.5 WAR last 5 years. He’s projected for 1-2 WAR this year with average defense but power and can fit in to the lineup in multiple roles. He’s not going to take a lot to get, probably one of the pitchers who can be a SP/RP/Swing type this year and maybe a little extra lotto ticket type. But don’t see Bote having any value to them. MLBTV has him at -2 trade value.
  18. The Cubs cut Bote and literally nobody took him for league min. He has negative value. According to MLBTV, Escobar also has negative value (though Bote's is worse). That's why prospects might need to be added.
  19. So I take it you don't think Morel can get better then. Morel can get better because he's young, which is why his trade value is high and he might be of interest to the Blue Jays. Meanwhile we get a solid catcher that's controlled for 3 more years.
  20. I like Morel, but I think the Cubs ought to trade him while his value is high. MLBTV has Morel at 28.2, while Jansen is at 24.8. If they won't do an even swap, tweak the deal with prospects on both ends. Then see if the Mets will swap Escobar for Bote with necessary tweaking.
  21. There is some speculation about the Cubs and Mancini, but I haven't heard anything at all about Will Myers. I assume Mancini might take less money/years, but Myers might be a viable option if the money/years are reasonable.
  22. Why wouldn't he recruit for a team and a city that idolized him for 9 years. I'm sure after he got over the hurt feelings of being traded (like all of the others), he realized that baseball is a business, and he came out of it in a great spot.
  23. Send them Bote instead of a 45-grade prospect to help with the money. McCann is owed $24 million/2 years, Carrasco is owed $14 million /1 year and Bote is owed $9 million /2 years. McCann + Carrasco + $15 million for Bote (add a 45-grade prospect if necessary).
  24. Cubs' motto for this winter should be: Would’ve been a nice add/deal for us.
  25. I really don't think there's much of a plan. If there ever was a plan, it seems that it is basically gone now and they're waiting it out to see what they can get for a discounted rate.
