Ohtani to Dodgers for an ungodly amount of money

I'm sure he's not making a decision for the next decade or the rest of his career because his agent will make sure there are opt outs in the contract. If he realizes he made a mistake, he can take the $100 - $150 million after 2-3 years and try to correct his mistake. -
He didn't live up to the hype, but he ended up with a 11-year career and made over $70 million while making a few all-star games.

Wicks or Wesnecki could be part of a package for a TOR starter.

And you don't believe that hitters changing their launch angles at the cost of more K's has nothing to do with it. Batters have figured out that you make more money hitting .220 with 20 HRs and lots of Ks than hitting .280 with 10-12 HRs and fewer Ks.

The whiff rate is higher because hitters concentrate on launch angles instead of contact.

I guess it was more like the 60's when all of the greats were hitting HRs and the pitchers were throwing more innings, but the point remains the same - back then hitters could not only hit HRs, but also manage a good BA and starting pitchers could work in a 4-man rotation and could consistently pitch deep into games for the whole season.

Our bullpen consists of Leiter, Alzolay, Fulmer, Smyly, and Wesneski who all were guys just not good enough to start. The same could be said about today's hitter who are facing mediocre/poor starters for 3 or 4 days out of a six-man rotation. Now teams have 2 good starters, 3-4 good position players, and 2=3 good relievers.

Baseball isn't going to be like the 70's, but the 70's had hitters that batted .300 with 35-40 HRs and they played full seasons along with the pitchers who threw hard, pitched every 4th day, and pitched at least into the 7th inning for the whole season.

It's not going to happen, but there's no way it can't happen. Guys like Ryan, Jenkins, Gibson, etc. were throwing really hard and they threw complete games and over 200 innings year after year.

Instead of moving Soto to 1B, put him in LF and move Happ to 3B.

Chapman for a moderate deal? He'll probably sign a multiple year contract at about $20 million per year.

I'm not sure how you can say the offense stepped up even with Bellinger. Bellinger carried this team for most of the season. We've got some major holes to fill, if we lose Bellinger and Candelario.

The Cubs ought to send Canario to winter ball to learn to play 1B. If he is successful, we might not have to spend to fill that spot.

I think Nico is under appreciated when people talk about the Cubs. He's the epitome of consistency offensively and defensively he's near the top of the game. As you pointed out, he's an excellent base stealer and a smart baserunner. Unfortunately, modern stat-driven baseball loves players who hit 25+ HR, 160 Ks, .210 BA, and can't play defense at any position over guys like Hoerner.

It will be interesting to see how the injury affects Ohtani's asking price. Obviously, he'll get a pile of money, but his value is diminished if he's a DH only.

You're way more optimistic about PCA than I am. There are many options available with Bellinger going to 1B or corner OF, If PCA is the real deal. Trading top prospects for an inferior hitter and 1B (Alonso) and then extending him for just as much as Bellinger makes no sense to me.

Just resign Bellinger and Candelario and be done with it. If and when PCA is ready, Bellinger moves to 1B.

Bote should be traded if they can find a taker. It was a mistake when they gave him that contract. -
PCA is a great prospect, but who knows when he'll be ready for full-time duty. Most of us have seen top prospects completely fail or take 2-3 years to adjust to ML pitching.

If Bellinger is too expensive, a deal involving Morel and McCormick might be worth looking into. The Astros might be willing to find a position for Morel.

I disagree. Nico is the unsung hero of this team. Morel certainly has a higher ceiling but throw in a ton of strikeouts and horrible defense and I think Nico is what this team needs. Morel is a DH/corner OF.
