  1. I think Nico is under appreciated when people talk about the Cubs. He's the epitome of consistency offensively and defensively he's near the top of the game. As you pointed out, he's an excellent base stealer and a smart baserunner. Unfortunately, modern stat-driven baseball loves players who hit 25+ HR, 160 Ks, .210 BA, and can't play defense at any position over guys like Hoerner.
  2. It will be interesting to see how the injury affects Ohtani's asking price. Obviously, he'll get a pile of money, but his value is diminished if he's a DH only.
  3. You're way more optimistic about PCA than I am. There are many options available with Bellinger going to 1B or corner OF, If PCA is the real deal. Trading top prospects for an inferior hitter and 1B (Alonso) and then extending him for just as much as Bellinger makes no sense to me.
  4. Just resign Bellinger and Candelario and be done with it. If and when PCA is ready, Bellinger moves to 1B.
  5. Bote should be traded if they can find a taker. It was a mistake when they gave him that contract.
  6. PCA is a great prospect, but who knows when he'll be ready for full-time duty. Most of us have seen top prospects completely fail or take 2-3 years to adjust to ML pitching.
  7. If Bellinger is too expensive, a deal involving Morel and McCormick might be worth looking into. The Astros might be willing to find a position for Morel.
  8. I disagree. Nico is the unsung hero of this team. Morel certainly has a higher ceiling but throw in a ton of strikeouts and horrible defense and I think Nico is what this team needs. Morel is a DH/corner OF.
  9. That's a lot of "what ifs" as opposed to signing Bellinger. Bellinger fills a lot of voids for the Cubs (CF, 1B, power hitter, etc.).
  10. I think it will be a disappointment, because they would have wasted outstanding seasons by Bellinger, Stroman, Candelario, Swanson, Tauchman, Steele, Alzolay, Merryweather, etc. Combine that with the very real possibility of losing Bellinger, Stroman, and Candelario and we might be struggling to get to .500 next year.
  11. I think we can all agree that he ought to be given a good shot at making the team in spring training. If he shows that he belongs, then use him as 1B/DH. Of course, his ml stats might also make him attractive trade bait.
  12. Yeah, it's great to have highly ranked prospects, but they're only prospects until they prove themselves in the ML.
  13. No matter how the rest of this year plays out, the Cubs need to sign Bellinger for sure. It would be a huge regression losing Bellinger, Stroman, and Candelario during the off season.
  14. He has some value as a LH, cheap, 4th OF who can play all three positions.
  15. Trade him during the off season. Use him as a DH for the rest of the season.
  16. All the more reason to go all in on Soto. Trade Suzuki for a SP.
  17. Cron and Hand together in one deal shouldn't cost much, since neither has much trade value.
  18. Swanson has worked out great, but a contributing factor to signing him was that he was the cheapest of the top SS available too.
  19. 1. Trade Stroman for the best deal you can get. 2. Trade for Eduardo Rodriguez to replace Stroman plus we have him at a reasonable price for the next 3 years. 3. Keep Bellinger and sign him to a 4–5-year contract.
  20. I feel like trading Bellinger not only shows we're giving up this season, but also points to 2-3 more years of mediocrity while we hope for the future. Whenever in the future that PCA is ready, put Bellinger at 1B.
  21. Don't give Hoyer any ideas.
  22. The Cubs ought to trade Stroman and Hendricks for the best pitching prospects they can get and use the money saved to extend Bellinger.
  23. The new date for competing is now looking like 2025-2026.
  24. Are you starting Steele and Stroman in 10 of those games?
  25. I don't think this is true. At all. The Dodgers have an $100 million per year head start on every other team in the league via their tv deal, the Cubs are far from poor but they don’t have a structural advantage that approaches it. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/lets-update-the-estimated-local-tv-revenue-for-mlb-teams/ Instead of comparing them to the Dodgers or the Yankees/Mets, why don't we compare them to the Phillies, Padres, Blue Jays, Angels, Braves, Astros, and the Rangers. They certainly have the funds to outspend these teams.
