  1. When asked about stats Maddux had this to say: "It's art, you can make some things out of them," he said. "But there's a lot of real stuff to them also. Good numbers don't lie. Bad numbers can be a little deceptive. You use all the information you can, but when it comes down to it, you gotta trust yourself, trust your players and try to put your players in positions where they can succeed." 2. From the daily herald article:
  3. (11/9): Jeff Beliveau: 0R, 0H, BB, K in 1 IP;Andrew Cashner: 0R, 0H, 0BB, 2K in 1 IP(W);Chris Carpenter: 0R, 1H, 0BB, K in 1IP
  4. Welcome to the board! Just FYI, siding with me is not going to help your reputation around here. I think both Pujols and Fielder are going to end up working out badly for whatever team signs them, unless, like you said, the deals end up being shorter in duration than I anticipate. The notion that the Cubs can afford to absorb a bad contract strikes me as an exceedingly poor reason to take one on, yet that's what I keep hearing. For what its worth I agree with you as well. Though I've pretty much stayed out of the argument because there are so many people here that strongly disagree with us. 2-4 years of good production are not worth the 2-4 other years of mediocre to poor production/injured years you'll get on the back end of the contract. I believe there are players worth signing to deals like this but they are younger or healthier players.
  5. Via Twitter: (@CSNMooney) Mike Maddux and #Cubs discussed potential roles for his brother, but wouldn't elaborate, saying it's a "private family matter." interesting... Though I doubt Greg wants an on the field job right now. Also via Twitter: (@CSNMooney) Maddux: “What would I look for in a pitching coach?…Somebody who could put up with my second-guessing.”
  6. Is he even a candidate? I think he's being considered but the Cubs haven't been granted permission to interview him yet. If he is being considered, I don't think there would be any problem getting permission to speak with him... which leads me to believe maybe he is not a serious candidate. Hard to guess what's going on behind the scenes. I'm still pulling for Martinez, but until we hear about an interview being scheduled I'm not going to be that hopeful. It's possible he's quietly turning down the request for interviews. has he openly stated he wants to manage? Maybe he's as happy with the Rays as Maddon and Freidman are, I think they put something in the water down there that causes people not to want to leave. maybe it's like brainwashing lol.
  7. Muskat just tweeted Mike will interview with the Cubs on Wensday.
  8. Maddux issued a statement through the Rangers: http://fullcount.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/2011/11/07/rangers-pitching-coach-mike-maddux-drops-out-of-red-sox-managerial-search-for-family-reasons/ he says he feels Boston is to far away. Maybe Chicago would not be. he doesn't say much about the Cubs job. I guess we'll learn more tommorow.
  9. Lake "struck out" in his first at bat on what looked like ball 4 on a full count. MLB network has a terrible angle though so it was hard to tell, they appear to only have a couple of cameras. Ack he made a terrible play on a ball that he should have held on to but instead made a poor throw due to making it while his bottom half was facing another direction, looked really akward and the result was a throw well up the line away from his first baseman.
  10. Largely because Id love to have Maddon but if I can't have the master I'll take the pupil. Plus Dave is a former Cub (not that that matters much).
  11. I don't know if they are considering him but he would be my top choice.
  12. Wgn radio, csn both online and on cable 3pm Chicago time
  13. David Kaplan confirmed via twitter this will be on CSN and WGN radio as well.
  14. I wonder if CSN will broadcast this like they did the Epstein press conference, it's nice to be able to watch it online.
  15. so, does this mean that shark basically has to sign whatever contract offer the cubs give him, or sit out the year? is there a minimum value the contract has to have? They can only cut his salary by 20% of his previous years salary from what I understand.
  16. By whom? It's been pretty much the scuttlebutt all season long that this would be his last in Saint Louis. According to the article, he gave them the word in August. This was totally expected. Well it was news to me, but admittedly I wasn't paying much attention to what might happen to Tony LaRussa after the season.
  17. Sure we do. You're just not willing to trade him. oh... I see where your going here. Castro eh? Meh... I'm not sure how I'd feel about that.
  18. You really think we would have what it would take? I don't think we have enough.
  19. Well, that's unexpected. maybe we'll get lucky and they'll sign Sandberg lol. Seems like this news would be on sportscenter they seem to be slow on the uptake these days.
  20. Nm, beaten to it.
  21. That was Darvish: I watched the whole start. He got some calls he wouldn't have gotten here. Most of the off speed stuff were sliders but he threw what looked like a curve a few times and it was very good big 12-6 break. Sliders had good movement as well.
  22. Vitters and Lake both homered today Vitters went 3/4 scored 2 runs and Lake 1/4
