    yes and it was as silly when you said it the first time as it is now. Why is it silly? Makes plenty of sense to me. Your not the only person to wonder whats to keep it from coming to that davell. so basically teams in every salary cap league in the world engage in rampant cheating. Not sure about rampant but who's to say it doesn't happen on some scale from time to time? It's certainly possible. *shrug* Not really worth arguing about but I don't see how bringing up the possibility is silly. It's possible some shaddy things could go on.

    I just hope they realize the effect the new rules are having and react and adjust instead of just leaving them this way. It's frustrating to watch.

    that's just Boras coaching. We have leverage, we can always use the pick next year in what should be a stronger draft anyway.

    ??? They would have slot money for both pick next year (if they couldn't sign Appel)... Not sure what's so confusing about that. Ok got it so they do get the slot money for both. Somehow I got lost in the wording. I get it now, thanks guys. The slot money will change some but they money to sign the picks is still alloted. I also love what the Cubs are doing with the pitching selections, I guess with all these arms some of them have got to pan out well.

    I'm still pretty confused. I don't understand how you could possibly fit a first round comp pick into the regular budget. it seems like if they are giving you the comp pick they would give you the cap space to sign that pick as well. since you had it but couldn't use it the year before just like you essentially lost the pick you lost the cap space that went with that pick seems logical you'd get it when you got the comp pick. no? Otherwise what's the point of comping the pick? I don't see how in hell you'd fit it into your regular allotment. you'd have to sign 2 1st rounders with the money for 1?

    Are you asking if they'd get the slot for #9 twice (this year's missed pick and next year's newly awarded one)? I can't imagine why they would. It wouldn't make a lot of sense, but most of these new rules don't make sense, and I haven't seen anything about money from a lost pick being carried over. Money can't be carried over. They'll just have pool money for all the picks they have in '13. I dont understand how that would work. How could you possibly sign 2 1st rounders without slot money for each? Why even allow compensation for unsigned players if they aren't going to give you the slot money to sign them?

    when it's an 11 run lead. like it or not, swinging for the fences on a 3-0 pitch when you're leading in a blowout is frowned upon, and if you're going to do that, you'd better be willing to get drilled. I hope Baez's response was that he'll do whatever the [expletive] he wants. Hah! Exactly, was thinking the same thing.

    I'm pretty sure plenty of the guys being discussed at #6 are high ceiling players. Correa + Buxton are viewed as potential star players. Almora isn't seen as having quite the ceiling of those guys, but could reach all-star level. That's pretty solid production in the OF. Appel is viewed as a Verlander-lite. Much better stuff than results in college. Whether pro coaching can get him to take the big next step Verlander did is another question. Gausman may not be looked at as a potential star, but he is a decent bet to end up as a solid #2 pitcher. Zimmer has shown flashes of dominant stuff, but has also shown a lot of inconsistency. If the high-end is maintainable, he could be a #1. Yeah but it sounds like all of those guys will be gone by the time it gets to us. Then who's left Zunino? Meh... *edit apparently I've lost the ability to count to 6, I guess we should get one of those guys, thanks Tim.

    it seems like a lot of what's going to be availible are high floor low ceiling players. It's kind of dissapointing if they go that route. We have plenty of those guys in our system already. I'm tired of getting guys who are going to wind up as utility infielders if they even sniff the majors. I realize it's hard to pick who will become stars but it seems like our scouting department has done a lousy job in the recent past. I realize we might have been under budget restraints and that the draft has changed with the rule changes this year, but I really wish we could get some players who's ceiling isn't backup catcher or utility infileder . McLeod has been quoted as saying they want to find impact guys, our system aside from some of last years guys certainly lack that. Who's gonna be availible that has the potential to be an big bat or a ToR pitcher? I almost wish they'd just not sign the 6th pick and save it for next year if there's not going to be a potential star there.

    I kind of thought Dusty should have a bobble bat in his hands that just beats mark in the arm and shoulder.
