  1. He seems to get a lot of ground balls which is nice and he has a nice breaking ball. Kilometers per hour isn't really helping me determine velocity, but from how they talk about it I figure its upper 90s.
  2. Playoff game he pitched in last night is online, at least thats what someone said it was. http://www.justin.tv/asdfg585/b/298631204? cant verify as I dont read japanese
  3. Is it even going to be Monday, I had heard some people speculating it could be tuesday.
  4. I can certainly see why he would think picking up the option was a good idea. I'm sure he feels like he can improve on his numbers from last year (might not be true but I'm sure he thinks he can) and then try and get more money next offseason.
  5. If he declines his option what kind of draft pick to we get for him?
  6. Never mind, thanks Laura
  7. Omg. This was great, thanks for posting it.
  8. Thank God we have a guy running the team that I believe in and whatever he decides to do I trust. I don't have to worry about the Cubs doing really stupid lasting mistakes. That's not to say I think Theo is perfect. If he thinks signing Pujols or Fielder is the right move I'll get behind it.
  9. I could see it, but I think it would be a mistake. The Cubs remain starved for 1B in the system and there are two great ones available who are on division rivals. This type of player doesn't become available every year, and most of the time when they do, the two biggest spenders, Boston and NYY are much more likely to get those players. An improved system should also lessen the negative impact of a decline by either player 5-6 years from now. I don't think it would be a mistake at all. I don't think either Pujols or Fielder are good choices to give huge long contracts to. That's a Jim Hendry move. No and no. yes and yes, throwing a heap of money at this team is not going to make it a contender, especially when the money is thrown at the wrong people. It has to many holes. Fielder is not the type of player you want to try to build a team around. Pujols is aging. My opinion, we'll see. I trust whatever Theo decides to do, but I think a lot of the people on this board just want to see them make a big splash and spend a lot of money because they can.

I don't think either Pujols or Fielder are good choices to give huge long contracts to. That's a Jim Hendry move. That's a flashy move. Pujols is aging and is going to be well past his prime before halfway through the contract he wants. Fielder is not good defensively, something that Theo has said is one of the check marks that he looks at when looking at signing someone to a big, long term contract. Never mind that Fielder's body type screams physical issues down the road, most likely back and knee issues. I don't think Theo will sign Pujols or Fielder and I think that's a very good thing.
  11. Anything else of note?
  12. Damned this is one of those rare time I wish I had CSN
  13. I don't think it is. I think it alluded a bit more to the fact that the Cubs always went after very physically gifted players who were not necessarily great baseball players, or were extremely flawed in some aspect of their game. Soriano is a ridiculously talented baseball player. Ronny Cedeno was a gifted physical talent as well, so was Patterson and several others, including Vitters. It's more about the type of player they used to prefer and the development of that player. Well obviously some of it is bringing in the wrong players, some of it is doing a poor job of teaching young players. And that's not really on the manager. Managers don't teach players how to convert from raw physical talents to really good baseball players, that is what developmental people do. And the Cubs have been lacking. True, I think what I was thinking didn't come through in what I said somehow. Certainly not arguing that point.

  15. Theo on the GM situation: "If we bring in someone as a general manager, it will be because there's someone who I think is one of the best and one of the brightest in the game and someone who can make a real impact on the Cubs," Epstein said. "We have a ton of work to do."
  16. Does anyone know if Chicago Tribune live will be streamed? Would be nice.
  17. He also said something about not getting the most out of the talent they had, which is basically a managerial issue. It was obvious what he meant about over aggressiveness, hopefully he realizes this is a problem from the minor leagues up because that's what the organization has been preaching to players all the way up the development chain.
  18. If I'm a RS fan, that article means more to me than the full page ad. that was an amazingly good read, has to make Boston fans feel better about the situation. I thought his comments on his relationship with Luccino were amusing, it just sounded like he was trying not to call him an ass.
  19. Because that's the "in" thing to do here I guess. Kinda sad really. I guess people aren't allowed to express their opinion when it doesn't agree with what the larger majority of what the board thinks. I guess there aren't as many 'baseball purist" around these days which means in 20 years the game wont even resemble what it is today. We'll just be televising batting practice/homerun derby. the fact that your post wasn't deleted means that you are allowed to express your opinion. Thank you for another insightful post.

  21. really? i would think the whole "not letting black guys play for 60 years" was bit worse. Hawk Harrelson You might have an argument there. I'm pretty passionate in my hatred for the DH it creates a dumbed down form of baseball that I truly loathe. Its really a topic for another thread. Yeah, I really love that really smart brand of baseball where a pitcher flails at three breaking balls and walks back to the dugout, useless. Yes, because no one else playing another position on the field ever flails at three breaking balls and walks back to the dugout useless right? Baseball is defined as 9 players, 9 players fielding a position and those 9 players batting. That is baseball. Why stop at the DH, we could remove the left and right fielders, no one wants to see some guy catch a lazy fly when it could be a double right? The DH was added to boost offense because its seen as more entertaining to watch more offense. I disagree with that, so I dislike the DH. You guys can call names and act like my position is [expletive] all you want. The game is more interesting and entertaining without the DH. Its an opinion you can certainly disagree with, there's probably no convincing you so this discussion is fairly pointless.
  22. LOL that's just Boston media looking to point fingers at anyone on the other side to get the glaring spotlight off of Luccino/Henry. I doubt Kenney had much of a part in any of this, he's just everyones favorite scapegoat.
  23. Its kind of sad how a lot of Bostons fan and media forgot where they were before Theo. It would be pretty foolish not to realize what that front office accomplished in the 10 years Theo was there. I hope they don't drag him through the mud next week like they did Francona but I wouldn't put it past them.
  24. Well its not like the fans of those teams have a choice now is there? Most grew up watching that type of baseball so they don't really know anything different. The popularity of AL teams really has nothing to do with the DH.
