  1. Your 2007 Chicago Cubs: We may be mediocre, but we're darn scrappy.
  2. I do not understand this at all. .262/.328/.377 OPS+ of 88 7/10 SBs Has not played any OF position besides LF this year
  3. FWIW Lou was quoted in the Tribune saying "There's a good chance we won't change a thing" referring to tonight's lineup. That being said, I still believe he'll try to work Floyd in there somehow, seeing his career #s vs. Cook.
  4. Think Lou might stick Jacque in center and Floyd in right, just glancing at each of their career #s vs. Cook. I'd assume he'll want both of them in the lineup. Or - perhaps more likely - Floyd takes LF, Pie stays in center and Jacque plays right again.

  6. I agree with the premise that Hendry's ostensible inactivity at the trade deadline may not be of his choosing, but the fact remains he built a $100 million roster that - in the middle of August - could actually benefit from the likes of a Shannon Stewart or a Wily Mo Pena. That in itself underlines the problem; even with well above-average financial resources, Hendry can't net us anything better than abject mediocrity.
  7. Marquis + Coors Field = Yo Gallardo August 8th part deux
  8. BFF!
  9. Not that it was ever a very realistic possibility, but I'd advise anyone not to look at Jermaine Dye's numbers in the month of August, either. Guy's been raking lately.
  10. That is - dare I say - Washington Nationals-esque.
  11. July was pretty much the textbook definition of fool's gold. We won all those games despite a team-wide .700 OPS (our lowest month all season), and that's carrying on into August, where we currently have a .696 OPS for the month. Really, our offense isn't any different than it was last month; we were just hitting exceptionally well with RISP and that was skewing our W/L totals. The team is still hitting .277 with a .769 OPS with RISP, so I wouldn't be surprised to see this offensive regression continue, especially when you compound this with our woeful lack of power (we're now T-14th in the NL in HRs hit, with the Giants. We're ahead of only the Dodgers and the Nats...pathetic). Add in Marquis and Marshall coming back down to Earth and you have a recipe for a lot of frustrating losses.
  12. Another start for Cliff Floyd, I presume (in spite of Murton's "audition" yesterday evening).
  13. Agreed. Not just because we're hitting like crap at the moment, but Oswalt (like Wandy) has been a far superior pitcher at home than on the road- Home: 2.30 ERA, 79/25 K:BB, .632 OPSa Away: 5.52 ERA, 40/23 K:BB, .843 OPSa Got one of 'those' feelings that we'll be lucky to plate 2 this evening.
  14. Home runs are down roughly 10.58% in the NL and 14.37% in the AL compared to last year. These aren't straight YTD comparisons (baseball-reference doesn't have that data as I can tell), so these are based on HR/game rates.
  15. Just what our lineup needs. A little more speed, a little less slugging. Perfect.
  16. For what it's worth, HRs per game in the entire NL are significantly down from last year. In 2006, 2,840 HRs were hit in National League games, or 1.09 per game. This year, that average is down to 0.98 per game.
  17. Jason Marquis, month by month: April 2.35 ERA, .554 OPS against May 3.38 ERA, .593 OPS against June 5.09 ERA, .823 OPS against July 6.29 ERA, .899 OPS against August 8.44 ERA, .949 OPS against I'll take "Trends that are as clear as day" for $500, Alex.
  18. This team needs someone who get on base at a decent rate, can slug at least as much if not more than Jones or Floyd, can hit LHP, and has played LF at the major league level before. Sucks there's no one available in our system or our ML roster who matches that description. (sarcasm)
  19. In AAA Iowa: Patterson .300/.357/.472/.829 Pie .364/.411/.564/.975 And I may not have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but I'm fairly certain Pie hits from the left side and can steal bases.
  20. Looking at Dopirak's numbers, and I'm curious why he was promoted to Tennessee in '06 instead of starting out at Daytona again (don't normally see a .670 OPS warrant a promotion to AA). I wasn't nearly as caught up on our farm system as I am now, so I'm wondering what the rationale there might've been (perhaps at 22, he was simply kept in-line per his age). Thanks in advance.
  21. I didn't have a problem with Floyd starting over Murty yesterday- IIRC, he was 4/11 with 2 HRs vs. Glavine in his career. But not substituting him in LF when Sori went down was inexcusable.
  22. I just corrected myself. Sorry for the confusion.
