  1. Apologize in advance - I'm sure this has been covered elsewhere - but I'm pretty pleased to see Kyler Burke showing signs of life at Boise. An .864 OPS and .500 SLG% seem pretty good to me, considering how absolutely awful he was for the Padres' A affiliate. Looks like his LD% still stinks though (9%), but his IsoP is up massively (.216 with Boise compared to .057 with SD's A club).
  2. As long as Wood's arm isn't what's being torn, I'm fine with seeing him in anyway possible.
  3. I liked Harris as a person (from everything I read and heard) but thought he was a pretty lousy NFL safety. Big hitter, definitely...awful in pretty much every other facet of the game.
  4. Loss definitely falls on Marshall. All we needed today were innings out of our starter- and we got 2.2. If Marshall just gives us 5 or 6 decent innings, Ohman never gets into this game, much less into a situation where our bullpen is so taxed by the 9th that he's got to pitch to a bunch of righties (not that he pitched well whatsoever, of course).
  5. For those of us not in front of a TV, what did Jock do this time? Lose one in the sun?
  6. I'd be just fine with Pat the Bat and his 133 OPS+.
  7. Wow, thank you Marlon Anderson...3 run bomb. Now 7-5 Mets.
  8. I don't ever want to hear another criticism of Murton in RF after seeing that dive attempt by Shawn Green. Wow...just wow. Brewers now up 5-4.
  9. I honestly wish we'd just trade Murton. Which sucks, because I think he could be a bargain 'steal' as a LF who can give you .300/.360/.460 and decent defense at a dirt cheap price. But if we're not going to use him, at least get something for him while he still has value. It's ridiculous how this organization is seemingly committed to jerking him around.
  10. One thing to keep in mind is Tex is under contract for another year after this one; on the other hand, Z would be the textbook definition of a rent-a-player. That said, 26-year old aces don't go on the market very often.
  11. Basehit DeRo. 2007 Chicago Cubs baseball: all about the singles, baby.
  12. Church has 39 XBHs this year, which would rank him 3rd on our team, way behind Soriano's 53 but just 1 behind Lee/Ramirez who are each tied at 40. No one else on our team is even close to that number. For a team that's 9th in the NL in SLG%, I'd think Church would look pretty nice in CF everyday.
  13. Many of those doubles in RFK would HRs in Wrigley. I've lived in DC for a few years now, and Church has basically gotten the short end of the stick from the Nats organization pretty much since Day 1. For some reason, he can't seem to win the starting CF job, no matter how efficient his production is when he does play. Sort of mind-boggling. He's the kind of guy who I could see flourishing in a hitter friendy ballpark if given the chance to play everyday. Nice fielder, good patience, decent power.
  14. His throw in the 9th was excellent- I had the game on mute, and just assumed during the replays the announcers were commenting on what a strong throw it was. Can't believe they were ragging him on that. He isn't the quickest getting it out of his glove but he likely would've nailed Iguchi at the plate.
  15. FWIW the Cubs' pitchers have walked 354 batters (11th highest in baseball) but our hitters have only walked 313 times (26th in baseball). So we're not doing so hot by either measure.
  16. To his credit, Weurtz is getting squeezed a bit in my opinion.
  17. Hate to say it, but he looked safe to me. PS Looks like the 'bad' Weurtz is back.
  18. Tejada also destroys LHP (though in very few PAs due to his injury) to the tune of an .885 OPS. I'd love to take a flyer on him if the asking price wasn't ridiculous- Buster Olney speculated today that Tejada's a good bet to be in play prior to the 8/31 waiver wire deadline if he's not dealt before tomorrow afternoon.
  19. Let's play a game of "Choose the Baseball Tonight cliche" as to why ESPN's "experts" will in fact argue the Cards are still in it- (a) they're "gamers" (b) they know what it takes to win © they're playing "within themselves" (wtf does this mean, anyway) (d) they've been here before and are savvy veterans
  20. Dunn is hitting .206 with a .635 OPS vs. LH pitching this year. Griffey is hitting .258 with an .833 OPS vs. LH pitching this year. Has anyone noticed that Griffey has a .710 OPS since the AS break? Wondering if the ol' timer is slowing down a bit...
