  1. Harrison, maybe? Then what at 3B? I figured Kang at 3B, unless they plan on playing him at SS. Once again, that leaves you playing Mercer on purpose. While I agree with you that it's not an ideal scenario to have his bat in the lineup everyday, he is a solid defensive shortstop and can be buried at the bottom of the batting order to limit the damage his bat might cause. If Harrison, Kang, and Mercer are your three options to play those three positions, it probably makes the most sense to have Mercer at SS, Kang at 3B, and Harrision at 2B. Obviously, there's still a long way to go in the offseason, so they could pick up someone else capable of playing one or more of those positions.

  3. Damn. What happened to Davis? ETA: Never mind. Same knee injury that kept him out of the Lehigh game.
  4. Purdue looks really good. I was cautiously optimistic before the season, but after watching them play a few games, my expectations are a lot higher now.
  5. If that happens, novelty "Female Body Inspector" shirt sales are going to go through the roof.
  6. [tweet] [/tweet] That will do it. In hindsight, trading for Tulo was a bad idea even though he almost single handedly turned their season from also ran to division winner. By that standard, no trade is ever worth it unless you win the WS tulo put up a very defense heavy 1.4 fWAR in his time with the blue jays (with a 91 wRC+) let's not go crazy there that said i agree with that being a dumb standard Tulo's signed through 2020, so it's not like they gave up prospects for a rental. He's still going to provide value to them beyond 2015.
  7. Fried chicken, beer and video games show a lack of dedication to maintaining quality physical condition. Atleast the choking part shows frustration over an underachieving season and a lack of hustle. Obviously it's still not the right thing to do. But atleast there's a reason behind it that's somewhat understandable. There's nothing admirable about making 10+ million a year and not doing what you can during the season to stay in top shape. The reason behind it is that he's an insufferable prick, who has managed to wear out his welcome pretty much everywhere he's been. A lot of teams steered clear of him at the trade deadline for a reason, and the entire baseball world saw why when he put his hands on the throat of the best hitter in the league.
  8. How can someone who pays attention to baseball for a living write that? It's Jon Heyman. I'm not quite sure he pays attention.
  9. Definitely would have preferred a weekend series here in DC instead of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.
  10. If this works, you better be pulling double shifts for the next two weeks.
  11. I'm glad I'm not the only one that saw this.
  12. You make it sound as if any of us were remotely productive yesterday.
  13. Still recovering from last night. I don't care who the Cubs play in the NLCS, I just want Game 5 of that Mets/Dodgers series to go 40 innings so all the pitchers from both teams are spent.
  14. I do not agree with this sentiment. There are pros and cons. Ross is obviously far inferior to Miggy with the bat, but he's a better thrower to bases, which could help with Lester pitching. I wish we were facing a lefty so Ross would at least stand some chance of being useful at the plate, but it's fine. I'm sure Joe will immediately PH Montero if/when Lester comes out. He's been lousy vs. all pitchers, but his OPS against righties is .549 this year as opposed to .440 against lefties. For his career, there's not a big difference in his numbers based on which arm the opposing pitcher uses.
  15. We did the tour of PNC in June. It's worth the time/money.
  16. lol - pot. kettle. black. Rosenthal is pitching with a large spot on the bill of his cap right now.
  17. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2368638-sammy-sosa-in-exile-theres-silence-rather-than-apology-from-former-cubs-star Thanks...that's what I was remembering.
  18. Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly, but I thought Wood was quoted earlier this year saying that the club should welcome Sosa back.
  19. Over his last 29 games, he has a .704 OPS (.165/.287/.417). He's still walking and hitting for power. The biggest issue has been a .155 BABIP and a slightly elevated strikeout rate. Sure, he probably needs to make some adjustments, but luck hasn't exactly been on his side lately either. I would be stunned if they left him off the roster. If you go back the last 30 games his OPS jumps all the way to .793. Oh I know. I was just showing that even though he was "struggling", he was still providing value offensively and that his struggles were due in large part to some shitty luck. He needs to be on the playoff roster.

  21. JFC, that's awesome. If he didn't follow up with "You're killing me, Smalls," it's a missed opportunity.
  22. Left Shark was only moonlighting as a Super Bowl halftime dancer. This is his day job.
  23. I realize that the Nationals have been hit hard with injuries this year, but the last week or so has really exposed Williams for the terrible manager he is. I would be shocked if he isn't fired soon after the season ends. He's been exposed for a lot longer than the last week. No question, but his ineptitude is getting a lot more national attention since they [expletive] the bed against the Mets.
