  1. His commentary on the replay of the Castro homer last night was great. Castro: McCarver: "Wacha doesn't even turn to look at the home run." Wacha:
  2. Judging by his previous tweets, that joncog12 seems to fully embrace Curt Schilling's views.
  3. The only way Montero's money goes away is if he's traded or decides to retire early. He's signed through 2017.
  4. During his postgame interview, even Arrieta basically implied that he was surprised they did not score that as a hit. I didn't see it live, but after watching the replay, it could have been scored a hit. In fact, had this not been a no-hitter, I wouldn't have been surprised to see that changed to a hit following the game. As for the bunt, in a 2-0 game where a successful bunt hit puts brings the tying run to the plate, it wouldn't have been the worst thing in the world to do. (Someone did this against Arizona I believe when Brenly was managing them, and he flipped the [expletive] out. It was the same situation though, where it was 2-0 with a no-hitter on the line in the 9th.) I'm not saying I would have been cool with them bunting to wreck the no-hitter, but if you're a first place team trying to put more distance between you and the Giants...strategically, it wouldn't have been the worst idea to get the potential tying run to the plate. Kruk says a lot of stupid [expletive], but I'm not sure he was that off the mark on those two comments.
  5. Did you ask him where your automobile is?
  6. It was kind of a last minute thing because my StubHub listing expired without selling. For what it was, I got what I expected. I typically sell on StubHub unless I sell to somebody on here. Just out of curiosity, do you have pretty good luck selling on StubHub? We're thinking about getting a half-season ticket package for the Nationals for next year, but we know we'll have to sell them for several games. Their commission structure is really steep. Looks like it's 15% according to the site. The good thing is that I know plenty of people that would occasionally use them, so I could handle transactions for some of the games outside of StubHub. I'd probably use them for approximately 15 games, including the one series here against the Cubs.

  8. Not sure if I'm more impressed by the pitch or Martin's ability to lay off it.
  9. As for hurting Jennings ability to be GM, he's not filling that role anymore. They put someone else in that position.
  10. Bobby Cox moved from GM to manager with the Braves, although he had been a manager prior to becoming a GM.
  11. I came over from ESPN. UK rescued me from there during the 2003 season.
  12. lol you mean Koyie? and Gary? and McRae?
  13. Anyone else going to Spring Training this year? I'm heading out to the two games in Vegas.
  14. He's fun to watch. Love the fact that Smotherman is getting more minutes, too. TF they find a black guy named Basil Smotherman? He in witness protetction? C'mon...that's an awesome name!

  16. Well that was fun. Was waiting for Purdue to slip a bit, but the Boilers never let up. Great win.
  17. The spliced cable was a nice touch.
  18. Can't the same be said for most on-air "talent" when it comes to studio shows that focus on sports regardless of network? It's not like MLBN is the first (or the last) sports network to trot out a bunch of hacks to discuss sports.
  19. he needs to be a distant second. if the top guy is lester, this is fine. if it's not, this is a mess. There's plenty of room for "over" guys between Lester and Hammel. Scherzer, Shields, Liriano, a trade for somebody like Zimmerman. But I don't expect the Cubs to go after any of those guys, so I suspect if Theo loses on Lester you're going to hear a lot of the usual mantra chanting - not selling out the future, "15 months", etc - and Hammel will have been the big signing two off-seasons in a row. i think there's an effectively zero chance we go after scherzer or shields. liriano and zimmerman are very unlikely but theoretically possible. that mantra chanting is wholly unacceptable to all non-bretts. Some of us named Brett also find it to be unacceptable.
  20. some goofy ass moron blackhawks beat guy http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/VdH0qkDRG9o/0.jpg That's a face for radio.
  21. Apparently Lester is negotiating a contract to play Chutes and Ladders professionally for the next six years.
  22. Fangraphs has an impressive array of split options. Looking at the numbers, it's worse than I thought. Looking at LF production only probably isn't the best, since Moss would have played regardless (just most likely at a different position). Replace his horrible production the past 30 days with Vogt's production (since he's been playing more with the departure of Cespedes), and it improves...just by a tiny amount though. As a team, they've slashed .225/.290/.342 over the past 30 days (they're at .246/.321/.390 for the year). No one has really been hitting for them.
  23. I've heard it mentioned a few times on either MLBN or Baseball Tonight. Has Gomes been terrible since he took his place? Cespedes in Boston: .288/.308/.460, 4 HR, 27 RBI Jonny Gomes in Oakland: .244/.327/.244, 0 HR, 5 RBI Gomes has had only 49 plate appearances in Oakland, while Cespedes has had 146 in Boston. Gentry, Moss, and Fuld have all played LF since Cespedes' departure, with Vogt filling in at 1B if Moss is in the OF. Someone with more time than me can slice and dice the numbers, but I don't believe there has been a huge drop off in offensive production from LF since his departure. Eyeballing it, it looks like the power production has been a little lower, with higher OBP. Well, Cespedes has been worth 1.2 fWAR over the last 30 days. Over that same period, Oakland's LF have produced 0.4 fWAR, and just about all of that because is of Sam Fuld's defense. A quick eyeballing of the numbers says Cespedes' OPS has been about .150 higher than the combined Oakland LFs over that time frame. Well there you go. Just curious, where did you get those numbers? I admittedly didn't dig too deep, but I couldn't find an easy way to get splits by position AND date.
