Bring that Mitre guy up, please: 9 IP, 3 hits, 1 run, 4 strikeouts, 0 walks, 19 groundballs, 4 flyballs Hopefully either he or Rich Hill will start in Rusch's spot next week.
Mateo led Daytona to a 2-0 victory in game 2. He was dominating tonight. 7 IP, 2 hits, 0 runs, 9 strikeouts, 3 walks (1 was an IBB to Mientkiewicz). He did strike out Mientkiewicz twice, though.
Haha. Sweet! Daytona plays 2 tonight, by the way. They lost 3-1 in the first game. Yorkin went all 6, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits, 3 walks, and striking out 9. Moore had the only RBI.
The convention is Friday, January 13th - Sunday, January 15th and passes usually go on sale right around November 1st. With this season, I'd imagine passes will remain $50. You can only get them over the phone (773-404-CUBS). Not in person anymore nor online and they've sold out about four hours and two and a half hours after going on sale the last two years, respectively.
Thanks for the question! That "contest" lasted about two days. It was only a mustache to start with. It was a lot more talk than action. Aaron Smith and Joe Simokaitis started and when no-one else joined them they bailed on it. Smith and Larsen did it earlier in the year for a road trip but that was it. I think they all knew they couldn't compete with my goatee!! And no, Patterson was not involved... THanks for answering my question and I'm glad he wasn't involved! I think Eric would look hot with a beard, but what do I know? Not that nor Daytona's starter tonight (originally).
Corey is having a terrible career. And how exactly do you gauge his "desire to get better"? And how many coaches does Corey have to go through? Corey could be a very valuable bench player, but he is not a starting CF for a team that wants a playoff spot. The Cubs made a mistake by not letting him develop and are going to have to live with it if they want to get the kind of production out of Corey that they had hoped. I'd much rather have him in center while upgrading other positions than have to pay a higher price for someone on Juan Pierre's level at multiple positions. Look around at the other playoff teams. It's quite possible to make the playoffs with Patterson on the team. Actually, it's quite important to have cheaper talent. The "desire to get better" comes from comments from him and all of his coaches repeatedly saying that. Even Dusty will drop the occasional complement. And Corey just needs the right coach or two. Not three or four coaches who try to make him into something he's not. And Dusty's latest comments really scared me. To want to "overhaul" a young player's entire game in a month at AAA is pretty absurd.
Yes, Corey is having a terrible season. But considering his cost, potential, and desire to get better, bringing in a good coaching staff that understands what kind of ballplayer he is could really do wonders for Corey and the rest of the organization. If Hendry addresses that and the other positions, it wouldn't really hurt the club next season to start him in center and bat 7th.
