  1. Just not their night. At least not yet.
  2. Is that before or after the Burnitz double? :D Before, sorry. I changed it to "hadn't." A win!
  3. Fuentes hadn't allowed a run against lefties this year in 54 ABs. Just 10 hits to go along with a 25/7 K/BB ratio. That's why they intentionally walked Neifi.
  4. used to be called a 'screwball', now is known as a 'cut fastball'. reverse torque/ spin as a normal curve-ball... In the pregame, Kerry said he hasn't used anything other than a fastball and slider out of the 'pen and didn't plan on it. The closest thing Wood threw before was a change, but his change never did anything like that, I don't think.
  5. Is Kerry throwing a reverse slider?
  6. I'll lay odds that a lot of it is the air. Hopefully, but he just can't get ahead with his fastball and he was doing the same thing Sunday night against the Cardinals. But the air is messing up his curve, it seems.
  7. Very nice play by Neifi. It's not as much fun watching Prior when he's having these command problems. Hopefully he'll get it straightened out by his next start.
  8. I think we're seeing why Kim's home ERA is nearly 2 points lower at home this season. That air really helps him out (although his home ERA is still 4.62). Ugh.
  9. For those of us who don't have the benefit of TV, are you speaking of when he got picked off and are you being serious? Yeah. The umpire blew that call despite having a good view of first. Walker got his left hand back in before the tag.
  10. Walker was pretty clearly safe on that play at first.
  11. Prior was lucky there. If Kim pulls the bat back, that's ball 4.
  12. When your curve isn't breaking properly and you can't get ahead with your fastball because you don't have good control, you're going to get into trouble.
  13. Bunt, would've been out at first, but the throw sailed well wide of first and went way down the first base line. Tie game.
  14. Just a bad slide by Corey. Now not noticing home plate was not covered is pretty big. Kudos to Prior for making contact, though.
  15. Man. Too bad Speier didn't see that nobody was covering home. Not sure if you can blame Corey for that. After sprinting like that, it's hard to know what's what.
  16. Yeah, Hyle came out of the bullpen on the 14th (and didn't do much better than Downs).
  17. That's all you have to do in this park.
  18. He's injured, his last start was on 8/2. Donald Veal has replaced him in the rotation ever since. No clue what the injury is. No, he pitched on 8/14. He just didn't do that well. Interesting. I stumbled on something from cubs.com about that start, but couldn't match up the dates. That means there's a good chance Darin will start today. Unfortunately, it looks like you're right about Avery going tonight. He started on the 13th, so possibly Downs tomorrow.
  19. Grant- 1) How are your shoulder and hamstring feeling right now? 2) I asked a similar question to Sam Fuld, but did playing with Eric and Sam on the national team help you adjust any quicker to A ball when you reported to Peoria? 3) You're finishing up just your third month of professional baseball. Has it been what you had expected? 4) Do you have any sense of what not pitching in 2003 meant to your progression? Thanks and keep up the great work!
  20. He's injured, his last start was on 8/2. Donald Veal has replaced him in the rotation ever since. No clue what the injury is. No, he pitched on 8/14. He just didn't do that well.
  21. I'm quite thankful I can't remember the 1999 season, Banya. Dusty said Nomar could be available to pinch hit.
  22. Shhh, making fun of Raisin is much better. He's right, you know, Derwood. Are you sure? I swear that everyone saw it but the umpires and that Kim or the catcher or someone grabbed it up before he got booted. I wouldn't know where to go and look for a box score that far back... Oh, sorry. I meant on the making fun of Raisin part. I can't remember that incident at all... Nomar is feeling "75% better."
  23. Sam- 1) First off, how's the oblique muscle? 2) How is your running game coming along? What are the specific things you're working on currently? 3) As someone with more walks than strikeouts, what do you look for on a 3-2 pitch? Do you take relatively close pitches or do you tend to try to foul off anything that looks even remotely close to the corner? 4) What was it like when you started to play with Eric Patterson and then (later on) with Grant Johnson after you played with both on the 2002 national team? What were those two summers like for you? Thanks and keep up the great work!
  24. As far as I know he's still day-to-day. Dusty probably felt it best to give him two consecutive days, and let Neifi play because he's "familiar with the ballpark", henceforth known as the Enrique Principle. Haha. Good call. We'll see what Dusty says on the pregame show about Nomar.
