  1. That is freaky. I can't even begin to fathom what the odds of that happening are. Probably about the same as that nurse being saved by a guy whom she saved several years before.
  2. Just because an architect (not the Cubs, by the way. It was probably just the architect's way of justifying it) said they wanted to give something back to the community doesn't mean that the project was actually going to do that. While there are a decent number of people near the corner of Addison and Sheffield during games, it's not exactly a representation of the general community. They're mostly bar folk. Free key chains would have been a better and more useful gift back to the community than a knot hole in right field. It really wasn't going to serve anyone to begin with. But it's still going to be nice on non-game days, especially for out-of-towners. I have no idea why McGuire said that fans weren't entitled to it since there are a ton of other reasons why it's not a good idea. The bleacher expansion project was to add seats and they did that. The right field box seats are going to account for just 0.6% of the total seating capacity. They're even a relatively small number compared to the other bleacher seats. The knot hole, those seats, and the center field restaurant really don't take anything away from the average fan and are only small parts of the entire expansion project.
  3. They go relatively quickly, but not a very high number of tickets actually get sold in those first two hours. Those bleacher tickets are definitely around for a while, just not necessarily for the Saturday games or until it gets much easier to get through the VWR. Of course, that was before the additional bleacher seats. It looks like that's just to simplify things, but it wouldn't hurt to do it in advance.
  4. They probably just realized that it was a bad idea all around to begin with. It's important to remember that the only possible place to have a knothole was in an existing opening. The seats over the two other large openings, in left center and right center, are too deep to allow fans to get even remotely close. That left the right field corner. I don't know why they thought that would be a good spot for it during games, but there's no real way that anyone could see the action from that angle. At least not the batter. You could see into the stadium, but it's not like fans would be able to actually watch the game like fans in the stadium, on the rooftops, or at home.
  5. I'm still going to have to go after 4 tickets to a Cubs/Cards game in July or August, but other than maybe a value game depending on my birthday, I don't plan on buying any tickets in advance this year.
  6. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/media/photo/2006-02/21857942.jpg I hope they're just going to have the regular green doors there when there's a game. That's the actual bleacher box seat location, by the way. And here's the restaurant: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/media/photo/2006-02/21858056.jpg
  7. Most of the great seats aren't available, but that's not really because of the brokers. They find ways to get their hands on those seats and the WFPTS gets some, as well, but not a significant number. The tickets that are released later are ones that are unused by the Cubs or season ticket holders. Unfortunately for this year, I believe the Cubs are providing a service this year that allows season ticket holders to sell those on the secondary market. Of course, they're out of my price range now, anyways.
  8. Yeah...that's the setup for pouring the concrete in. They did just put pictures up on cubs.com of it, though.
  9. Ron said on the radio the other day that he'll probably be back with the Diamond Jaxx.
  10. Fantastic defense by Chandler at the end.
  11. What a bogus jumpball call.
  12. The Bulls sure blew that lead.
  13. Vedran finished with 26 points, including 5-9 from beyond the arc, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 blocks. That's 5 games out of the last 6 in Evanston that the 'Cats have beaten the Hawkeyes. And congrats to Evan Seacat for draining a huge three late.
  14. The Wildcats continue to own Iowa in Evanston with yet another upset! What a game. 51-48 the final.
  15. Smart coaching as they send the Hawkeyes to the line with 3-point deficit and just seconds left on the clock.
  16. Jenkins throws it off the leg of a Hawkeye right before going out of bounds and Northwestern has the ball with :09 left and up by 1 after Vedran converts the three-point play! Gotta hit your free throws now.
  17. Once again, the Iowa/Northwestern matchup is producing one heck of a game. And once again, I'm not there. Stupid cold.
  18. Great shooting and ball control tonight in Evanston. 22-18 Iowa at the half.
  19. I try not to think about how much the prices went up, but what I especially don't like is that for the past two years, they've really jacked up the upper deck seats. These are the bleacher box seats going in: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/media/photo/2006-01/21598674.jpg They're reserved seats with backs instead of the general admission benches. I believe they'll go on sale in March. As for the regular bleacher tickets, you can buy them online.
  20. They're probably going to appeal mostly to fans over 40 or 50 who don't want the hassle of GA and metal benches. Plus, without the family section in left, that'll be the only real option for families who want to sit in the outfield. But while I loved the family section, there's no way I'm spending $60 to sit in a seat in right field. I guess it will be worth it for the Cubs. There are going to be 250 of those seats, but I'd have to imagine that you could probably fit 350 or more bleacher spots in their place.
  21. Yes and no. That's the price for the bleacher box seats in right field, although I don't know if they vary depending upon the type of the game.
  22. Interesting. Thanks for the post, BK.
  23. Yeah, I sent it to the email address on their website and got an email last night saying it didn't exist. I guess that's why they didn't advertise it. For the record, I think you two didn't even last ten minutes before taking a shot at East St. Louis. Had to be done, though. I will say that you need to sing more during your broadcasts.
  24. He sucked with crap around him. You don't think he could have given Duke maybe 5 minutes a game with all of that talent around him just to spell Shelden? I know he isn;t ideal, but how many teams can back up all five spots with stars? No, Thompson was awful. Granted he played in a limited number of games because of injury, but they altered the offense to include him and he couldn't do ANYTHING in one-on-one situations in the low post against bad/mediocre centers. He has no way of scoring once he gets the ball down low. Same if he gets it at the free throw line. If Thompson had lived up to his hype, he would have pushed Northwestern over the top. One could argue that the Princeton offense wasn't a good fit for him, but it had nothing to do with his teammates.
  25. I guess it's good news/bad news with Guzman. If he starts at Iowa, they must think he's healthy and ready, but I would be a little happier with a more cautious approach. Ron also went on to say that Pie might start the season at West Tenn if he has a bad Spring Training, but it's not terribly likely. This was all based from conversations with Fleita, I believe.
