  1. That is weird, especially since he was replaced by a long snapper.
  2. Heeeeeere's Neifi... .263/.295/.358 in 407 PA, 1.7 VORP 407 PAs? I don't think him going from batting leadoff to batting second would reduce his PAs that much.
  3. MLB.com has released the rules for the WBC. It includes how many pitches a pitcher can throw and when.
  4. The Orlando Sentinel has rated how difficult it is for I-A schools to admit football players. May not be the most scientific study, but interesting nonetheless. 10: Rice 9: Wake Forest, Northwestern, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Army, Navy 8: Duke, SMU, Tulane, Air Force, UCLA 7: Georgia Tech, Syracuse, Michigan, Penn State, Texas, Missouri, Buffalo, Miami (Ohio), Georgia, Notre Dame Certainly some interesting names already. Cal was rated just a 6. USC was a 3. I would think they're missing something when it came to Texas.
  5. You know Ohio State spends millions more than that. Well, those are only based on what the universities actually say...
  6. Don't have the numbers just for football, but for all men's sports, Wisconsin is 10th in the Big Ten in recruiting expenses at $379,056 (Northwestern spends $297,680). Ohio State leads the conference with $673,493. Michigan State and Penn State are also above $600,000.
  7. Brian Urlacher and Olin Kreutz are also apparently out of the Pro Bowl. According to John Mullin of the Trib, Antwaan Randle El is going to be the Bears' primary target. He also has some bad news on McGowan:
  8. Man. True freshman Craig Moore is going to be a good one. He drained the three over Kiefer with :00.9 left on the clock to send the game to OT. He sometimes doesn't shoot enough, but he runs the offense well. Vedran wakes up with 29 points and leads Northwestern to an OT win over Purdue...despite being out-rebounded by about 18. They beat the Boilermakers back-to-back on the road for the first time since 1950/1951.
  9. Why draft a TE when Desmond Clark is a Pro Bowler? ... Anyways, he's in as a "need player" and Mike Brown is out. Dawkins will be replacing him.
  10. sickening. Did I mention what Jacque Jones was making? Frank Thomas didn't save the White Sox last year, though.
  11. 12. Psh, we got the best kicker in the country. USC better watch out now. Your fancy school probably has their own special teams coach, too. Aren't they special. And shame on Miami for trying to get Mauro to decommit from Northwestern.
  13. Rough past few days of recruiting for Northwestern after losing two desired prospects to Vandy and Stanford. And a rough recruiting season as a whole so far, especially considering the season we're coming off of. Got a couple of solid WRs, a good looking QB who won't take long to learn the offense, a decent kicker, and one much needed defensive back. Not enough help on the lines, though. But the big part of the recruiting class is Mauro, who could earn a chance to be the team's QB this summer. Not that the we ever do well in the star-rating system, but this class still leaves a bit to be desired as it stands right now.
  14. It's also worth noting that it wouldn't effect this season since the changes are taking place in the fall. Plus, I would be surprised if the Cubs would want to move a significant amount of games to WGN with their stake in CSNC. Getting rid of the WCIU games sure would be nice, though.
  15. It doesn't look like it. From what I read, WGN would be part of the new network. I'd imagine it would just effectively take the place of the WB.
  16. Regardless, I don't think it's too much of a stretch to assume that, because of the contract, he'll get every chance to break into the rotation when healthy.
  17. $1 million base with $1 million in incentives based soley on the number of starts he makes is a lot less than I was expecting. Doesn't look like there's an option, though, which hurts.
  18. The Cedeno analogy is a stretch; he's only had 80 career ML AB's. Whereas, Michaels has played in parts of 5 seasons (with over 800 AB's) and during his tenure, the Phillies sought outside options to fill their starting outfield positions (Michaels was there before they got Lofton. If he was a viable option they certainly could have saved money by starting him instead of seeking another player). It's an example of how there are way too many factors to judge a player based on playing time. It'll be more appropriate after this season, I'm guessing. One of the first things the Phillies did after acquiring Lofton was talk about how badly they wanted a veteran to be their "catalyst." That sounds pretty familiar. But you have to consider that Michaels didn't have as good of a 2004 season as he had in 2005. Still have nice OBP, though. Even more importantly, he only had 24 ABs in April and May of 2004 (injury?). That gave Byrd the opportunity to take the job and, despite him sucking at it, keep it even after Michaels got back.
  19. You have to consider the situation and who else is on the team, though. Certainly not many people would suggest that you have to be suspicious of Cedeno because Dusty gave most of the playing time to Neifi. The Phillies outfield was full with Lofton (.335/.392/.420), Abreu (.286/.405/.474), and Burrell (.281/.389/.504) last season. In 2003, they had Byrd (.303/.366/.418) in CF. And last season was Michaels' 4th in the big leagues. One could also easily suggest that he just hasn't gotten a full chance yet.
  20. Nice way to rebound after the tough loss.
  21. what was up with the clock not stopping on 1st downs in that game? Don't know. That was weird. Probably had to do with trying to keep the game at 3 hours or less. I only watched the last two minutes, though.
  22. Basanez sets up a game-winning opportunity down 4 with :01 left after a 44-yard bomb to the half-yard line and they can't punch it in. Oh, and Basanez let out an f-bomb while in a huddle with a mic on. My hero.
  23. Nice of the team not to try once again. Both teams sucked hard out there, though. So did the refs. Lots of sucking all around. Nice of Vedran to wait until 38 minutes into the game to make a FG.
  24. Yeah, but with more noticeable exposure and public urination.
