  1. it was actually kind of lost on me just how bad eli manning was for much of his career. i didnt really pay attention to him in new york for the most part but holy moly, not only was he not *good* but he was *actively bad*
  2. Here's some more fun with stats: Eli Manning career QB Rating: 84.1 Jay Cutler career QB Rating: 85.3 Mitch Trubisky career QB Rating: 86.0 Justin Fields career QB Rating: 83.9
  3. ahhh i have been gotten. this is on me for not noticing the bit earlier
  4. Ok this made me look up their stats and find what I think is the funniest stat of all time: Eli Manning Career Record: 117-117 (Aaron Rodgers is 153-87-1) For the record, Aaron Rodgers holds the career best QB Rating in the history of football. Yes, QB Rating is an overall flawed stat but he has the highest one in the history of football. You know what he also has the best career stat (again, in the history of FOOTBALL) - he has the lowest career interception rate. I think that at least puts him in the conversation of being Top 5 QB. Yes.
  5. No, I am sorry, you cannot seriously put Eli Manning ahead of Aaron Rodgers. I wouldn't put Roethlisberger ahead of Rodgers either, but thats at least not a ridiculous comparison
  6. I don't think Aaron Rodgers is overrated, he's a slamdunk HOF'er who, in his peak, was as good or better than anyone else who's ever played the position. But he's also a total schmuck, weirdo, horsefeathers, and he had more than a couple poor playoff performances. Like the '85 Bears, he almost certainly "should" have won more Super Bowls than he did. He's a top 5 QB all time though. (This is somewhat arguable given how hard it is to compare players across eras and rule changes. I could accept an argument he's not top 5, but I couldn't accept an argument he isn't in the top 10 QBs all time, no matter how you're evaluating era differences)
  7. is Rodgers Done now? Is there a place that's a good fit for him? Hilariously, the place that might be the best fit, if they're interested, would be Minnesota. He could follow the exact path that Brett Favre blazed for him. But I imagine they're ready to see what JJ McCarthy can do (I think....not much). So that probably isn't the spot for him.
  8. Yeah I really didn't like how they presented the score and crucial info. I think the purpose was to make as much of the field on screen as possible, but it ended up being less legible than a normal presentation
  9. cheap owners dont matter!!!!!! enlarge your mind!!!!!! teams don't get to keep the money if they're under the salary cap!!!!!!! stop thinking like this!!!!!
  10. i dont get why they did that green screen background for them. Clearly they are in the stadium...why have this strange simulacrum of the French Quarter in New Orleans? Thats not even really like what the French Quarter looks like (not enough trash and drunk people)
  11. They’re also gonna need a TE, by the looks of it
  12. It’s really too bad you can’t give the MVP award to the entire Philadelphia D Line
  13. Mahomes also just had a bad game and the gameplan was awful. Mahomes missed a few open throws (something he never does) and was indecisive. Surely helped by the fact that the Eagles could get a rush with only their DLine and could drop everyone else into coverage. dunno why they didn’t try running the ball to start the game really. Weird game.
  14. Now Ditka is gonna die and the Bears will suddenly become offensive juggernauts for the next 50 years and no one will know why
  15. I don’t think Virginia was responsible at all for the Bears woes (although letting her nimrod children run the team had been a problem) but part of me hopes her passing inaugurates a new, better, era of Bears football.
  16. For the longest time people thought that a baseball player's prime was like, ages 27-29, and then people actually studied it and found that actually no, most players primes were actually far, far earlier. Like, early 20s to mid-20s (if that). There are freaks of nature out there but they are the exception, not the rule. It's far worse with football players. Most of the value of a given player will be on their first contract, when drafted.
  17. We get into the old chicken and egg debate about QBs and coaching. I don't know if there's any way to prove it one way or the other. I still feel prejudiced towards my "you need a QB" thesis, but I don't know if I can persuade anyone with the data thats available, which can be interpreted in multilple ways. People wrote off Minnesota, then they got Sam Darnold who had a great year and the team was great. Was that coaching that turned him around? Maybe. Maybe he was a late bloomer and finally played up to his talent level after years of experience (and coaching from previous teams). Minnesota's roster wasn't all that different in 2023 and they were mediocre, and I can point to the extraordinarily bad play at QB of Nick Mullens, Josh Dobbs and Jaren Hall (who?) as a decisive factor to that down the stretch. (Of course, Cousins was 4-4 and played really well, statistically) The Eagles have a fantastic QB in Jalen Hurts. I dunno. Is that Sirianni genius or is that just cuz Hurts is really good. 🤷‍♂️ People wanted to fire Sirianni last year. Hurts was still really good. Everyone has their priors.
  18. Sure, *some* DEs can perform well into their 30s, some don't. Aging is not a linear thing and many older players hit a wall or get a nasty injury and are out of the league. The best D-Tackle of our generation retired at age 30. It *can* work out, but its not something I necessarily want to pour a lot of money or resources. Montez Sweat will be 29 next year. There are real questions to ask: Is it more valuable to invest in a 22 year old D-End coming out of school who may not have as much higher end potential but could be on the team throughout their prime and on a cheaper deal? I honestly don't know the answer to that. EDIT: Woops, had that wrong, Donald retired his age 32 season
  19. The "window" is, do you have a QB and offense in place. That isn't the same as a salary cap window or anything, but it *is* a window.
  20. In one sense I agree, in another sense, I don't agree. Think about it this way: Who would it make more sense to trade for Myles Garrett and spend possible long term resources for short term benefits? The Detroit Lions or the Chicago Bears? You may not agree, but I think: Detroit Lions, spend a first round pick on a 30 year old guy with two years on his deal? Sure Chicago Bears, spend a first round pick on a 30 year old guy with two years on his deal? Nah There's something qualitatively different between these two teams.
  21. Agreed, in a sense. Every NFL team is an offseason away from being playoff contenders. When I say "contend" i mean "one or two players away from a Super Bowl". I do think the Bears should be able to contend for a playoff spot next year, and if they don't, Poles should be fired.
  22. Just saw that Garrett is about to turn 30. I thought he was younger. Nevermind, I wouldn’t even offer our first for him. Only contending and ready to contend teams should sell out for him.
  23. I’d offer a 1st for Garrett, but nothing more. Do you think you can get his quality of play or better from our 10th overall pick? Probably not, or at least it’s not a great bet. I doubt the Browns will settle for that though. im all for going all-in on offense of course, but if all it took for Garrett was a 1st, I’d do it. Otherwise, you worry about the defense later, next year. This year is all Caleb and all offense.
  24. I don’t usually get mad about this kind of stuff but if Ben Johnson was available last year, and interested in the Bears, and could have coached Caleb on his rookie season instead of Matt horsefeathers Eberflus what the horsefeathers was going on at Halas Hall. How did this whole past season even happen??
  25. I'm stoked that the Bears have won consecutive off-seasons, I'm anxious to see some of it translate onto the field.
