that guy simply wasn't available at this deadline. and we're 1 game back of the division and a bye. not where we wanted to be a month ago, but definitely not a disaster scenario!

I understand being disappointed but there are a lot of people in this thread that don't seem to realize this team has the best run differential in baseball and isn't like... scrambling to barely make the playoffs or something.

Am I one of the few people not *that* upset about this trade deadline? Sure, I wish we could have gotten a top-of-the-line starter....but none of those guys were being moved. Soroka is gonna start, we got a few bullpen arms, and we got a decent bat for the bench and for 3B which we desperately needed. Maybe I just didn't build my hopes up too much that they were gonna do something huge here. But what they did do shored up the team, and its a very good team thats in a semi-funk.

Cubs, good job doing the bare minimum and averting disaster. I expect you to do better in that 5 game series later this year. good to see some of our big boppers have some good games. Let it continue.

Assad's my dawg. I don't care what the peripherals say on him, I"m hyped to see him in action again. It does make me think about how particularly unlucky the Cubs have been with their rotation this season so far. We've lost Assad, Steele and lost major chunks of time with Imanaga and now Taillon (who's also been mediocre when healthy). The fact they're tied for the best record in baseball is pretty astonishing in light of that.

It’s actually pretty fun the Cubs and Brewers are going into this series tied. I’m excited about it. Sure it’ll be stressful, and sure we’d like the Cubs to be playing better ball at this point, but you can’t get better drama than this in July.

Cubs are probably gonna take this one but man lately they are fumbling an astronomical amount of runners on base, which generally means the Baseball Gods punish you for your hubris

You have to overpay and overextend on years to sign superstars. That’s unfortunately just the terms of engagement. You sign a guy fully knowing the back half of the deal is bad, dead money - but you’re praying the front half is worth it.
