  1. I was really disappointed by the defensive effort in the first half against Toronto. I didn't watch much of the second half, but still, its pretty inexcusable to drop this one when you had the 6th seed in front of you and you are playing at home. Whatever.
  2. Well that kinda sucks just one of those days
  3. It would be almost as fulfilling as that Soto game-tying 3 run donger against the Brewers late September last year
  4. F it, sweep the Cardinals and we all forget about this game by Monday Good news: The Cardinals called up some random schlub to start against us on Friday Bad news: When was the last time the Cubs actually punished some AAA starter that had to make an emergency start?
  5. Still pissed off that we gave up a pitching gem to Marquis
  6. The Cubs are putting together some weak at-bats against a lame and notoriously wild pitcher Though we have 2 of our best hitters out, there isn't much life in this lineup right now
  7. Lol, a combined Duke and Michigan player would be one of my, theoretically, most hated players ever we'll see how this turns out
  8. Soriano cracking homers like nothing I like a healthy Soriano, and he hasn't had a terrible eye either
  9. Lol, thinking about the best situation being Guzman or Heilman given the closers role
  10. Less of an indictment of Gregg and more a celebration of how strong our bullpen is looking this year except for the Rule V pick, we'll see how he turns out
  11. No. That said, I'd probably rather Guzman close than Gregg, but that would never fly. It would be a slap in the face to Marmol. It sucks that people think "closer" is this incredibly important and prestigious pseudo-position. We've been posting on this board for years now, you don't have to give me that speech. I understand that if we had a real 'ace' reliever or a 'fireman' or something like that it would be pretty important, but as it is his job on the team is very important.
  12. Mediocrity would be preferable to what he's doing at the moment
  13. Ah, so if he starts taking hitting suggestions from Lee, then?
  14. Him + Geo coming back + Rockies pitching = we could be in for some fireworks
  15. And that Milton Bradley is practically injured every other game If Kosuke turns into what we'd hope for, it'll pretty much just balance out these two knuckle-heads and the loss of DeRosa
  16. Something we're all in consensus about, Gregg is pretty crappy He's possibly our second worst bullpen arm behind fan-favorite Neal Cotts and doing the most important job. Awesome!
  17. Jon Miller isn't still on the crew is he? Erra-meese Ramirez would kill you all by itself. I have a soft spot in my heart for how Jon Miller pronounces hispanic players names, its just so funny. I mean, at least he's giving an effort to say it correctly. Jon Miller is pretty cool anyway, I love when you can almost feel him squirming in the booth when Morgan says something out-of-this-world stupid. It's amazing how much the outcome of a Cubs game can effect my mood, so heres hoping we win and we don't have another outburst in the gym like I did when I saw the walk off on Friday.
  18. This is the most important thing. Lou has almost always started and given playing time to the best players he has on the field, and thats a ton of credit given our experience with Dusty Any manager, save a Billy Beane-esque figurehead, would drive us insane with moves. Thats just the way it works in baseball.
  19. Love to be wrong but this might be the end of the line for Lee. Its not even that he doesn't have his swing anymore, he's just going up there with a really poor approach lately. Swinging at a ton of junk he never used to swing at (circa 2005 Lee), I feel like he's exacerbating his decline, which could be slow and keep him as a productive player, by helping the opposition too much.
  20. in one day Angelo takes a meh off-season to AWESOME status its a big risk but hell, I think we've finally gotten a QB that is gonna stick around for sometime and be awesome lets get some receivers and fix that defense now
  21. I do like the idea of trading DeRosa when his value is at its peak, but I'm a tad worried about where our infield is going Don't like the idea of a Miles-Theriot infield... Lets hope Bradley can give us a year similar to his last, we're going to need the offense
  22. ah well, the game pissed me off but after a few hours it doesn't bother me as much they were, as has been said, what we thought they were if they make the right moves they can be an elite team next year in the NFC. Need to shore up the O-line, wide receivers and add a few pieces on defense, but it can all be done
  23. I hate the Red Sox just as much as the Yankees. Oh crap, I just realized that the backlash to all these signings will be 800,000 more annoying Red Sox bandwagoners declaring them "giant-killers" and rooting for them over the Yankees crap.
  24. The Yankees are doing everything in their power to retain their title of "ridiculous ostentious display of wealth"
  25. I don't think the Bears will be winning any playoff games if they win the division. Just sayin' Yeah, it's not like they could ever play an NFC playoff team close like Carolina, Atlanta, Tampa, Philly, or Minnesota. At this point in the season? The Offense hasn't showed much of anything in about 4-5 weeks. Frustratingly enough, its only been recently that the defense has shown that it even cares, I guess we can never get a full season of good play out of all 53 players. So yeah, I agree unironically with what you said (I blame Ron Turner for everything) The Bears are not a bad team, or even an inconsistent team. Their overall variance is 6th overall, meaning they've been a very consistent team week in, week out. They beat Philly earlier in the year when they were slightly outplayed. They should've beat Atlanta in Atlanta earlier in the year when they slightly outplayed them. They outplayed Carolina in week 2 only to fall apart in the 4th quarter. They outplayed Tampa and fell apart the last two minutes. Heck, they outplayed New Orleans through 3 quarters and let them back into that game, too. Outside the Giants, the only team that really outclasses the Bears is the Eagles. Are we working with some Football Outsider's DVOA stats here? Also, you can't easily explain away why we got so horribly outplayed at Minnesota and Green Bay. That was just embarrassing.
