  1. Yeah, 1.6 WAR (much of that I'm assuming is defense and 70+ odd plate appearances more) is not a minuscule difference - however accounting for salary and all that, well, its reasonable to say if there were concerns about Harper they're not entirely diminished. I wasn't as full-throated pro-Harper as many on this board, but reticence to sign him only makes sense if you're also committed to putting that kind of money into improving the team in other places, which it turns out they very much weren't into.
  2. Yes I don't think he's actually very good, but I do think he's better than Chase Daniel, and it would be a great story and piss off the right people
  3. I don't think you can say the trade for Khalil Mack was premature - opportunities like that just don't come around and you were taking a gamble on Trubisky, which hasn't really panned out. Mack on the other hand has *exceeded* expectations - very rarely does a big time trade like that for a player who's already made a name for themselves even pay off at all. He's been even better than expected, and is disproportionately responsible for the Bears being competitive. The coolest/most hilarious thing the Bears could do is sign Colin Kaepernick, but we all know they wont do that.
  4. is it weird and greedy that i feel forlorn that we have another Kick Ass Bad Ass Defense and another year of grinding games away with a below average offense? its just like, version 378 of that we've had in the last 35+ years
  5. finally - something intriguing about the 2019 cubs If this is true, why would Zobrist come back to the team at the end of the year? Would be humiliating
  6. I kiiiiiinda feel bad for Joe because this current stretch is totally inconceivable and clearly not anything he himself is personally responsible for, but he's been a stubborn ass the last two seasons and has done a lot to sabotage himself. I don't think managers really account for a lot but I do think sometimes you get a dead cat bounce from replacing them, so replace awaay
  7. Russell is for sure gone now ain’t he? The team barely plays him, he’s been awful, Javy has taken his spot without question. All the Cubs accomplished by keeping him on board was to hurt their credibility with fans, further crater his trade value, and allow him to cost us a handful of games. Good stuff.
  8. I didn’t think it was possible to be this dumb
  9. Have the Cubs considered scoring more runs? Seems like a good strategy The Brewers taking the Cardinals magic dust rules. I actually think it’s hilarious: there’s a non-zero chance the Cardinals end up out of the playoffs completely, which owns
  10. is this a high water mark for the cubs? 14 games over
  11. i'm not even mad if the brewers pass us i'm single-minded about the cardinals. the cubs should never have let them back in the race, much less let them take a 4.5 game lead or whatever at one point. that is the unforgivable crime of this season. it doesn't matter who takes the crown at the end of the season if its not the cubs. they needed to win more
  12. Zobrist has been really good (offensively) since he's come back
  13. i literally could not care what the brewers are doing, its all cardinals I mean I get your sentiment but the Brewers are exclusively playing garbage teams that are just trying to get their season over with. The Cubs could go 5-2 against the Cardinals and still get passed. if we go 5-2 against the cardinals we win the division. the only team we're playing is the pirates (bring on the mega-jinx levels here)
  14. If Cole can just get out of this inning without any damage (and is immediately pulled and I mean IMMEDIATELY) I consider it a win edit: nevermind, lol
  15. i literally could not care what the brewers are doing, its all cardinals
  16. i fear we have squeezed everything we possibly can out of Hamels and he's turning back into a pumpkin
  17. if the cubs wanna continue to kick ass offensively while a bunch of their really good hitters are hurt, i'm cool with that
  18. anyone feeling more rather than less encouraged after this win is almost like alien to me this team looks just atrocious on offense.
  19. It’s not a Bears season if we’re not arguing incessantly about the QB and whether or not they’re bad (and they’re almost always bad)
  20. Anyone rooting for the Cardinals in this past series was a ninny. Cubs gunning for that Division or bust
  21. The offense being this bad is unacceptable. It’s unacceptable. I’ve started to believe there’s something metaphysical going on preventing the Bears from having a good offense.
  22. Didn’t the Pirates win 3 out of 4 against us like a couple weeks ago? This team now looks like it’s in full surrender mode
  23. Weirdly, last years team while objectively better by any standard, made me way more angry than this years. I guess my expectations were lower this year anyway. The death march of last year was way more brutal, they couldn’t score more than 1 run for like 30 straight games. At least this team will spice it up with 17 runs before going 5 games in a row to lose to the Padres or whatever
  24. Oh horsefeathers they’re gonna get 20 lol
