Agreed, since the second they lost Ohtani actually. what's ohtani have to do with it The idea that they REALLY WANTED Ohtani and eventually Harper and then REALLY REALLY wanted Harper after losing out on Ohtani is probably not without merit.

i know this isn't the dexter deal you were referring to but man this just made me think of how dexter surprised re-upped with us in 16 and how horsefeathering cool that was Not only did that, but did that then hit a leadoff homer in game 7 of the world series and made himself a lot more money in the process. Literally everybody won (except the orioles lol horsefeathers them) Edit: Oh yeah and the contract he got will be something of an albatross to our division rivals as he ages.
