  1. I think he'll be let go, but I'd say he'd need to do something like this to get a good contract offer from us: 25 GS 16-5 2.80 ERA
  2. Bobby Abreu Then what are we waiting for? Thank god Hendry isn't stupid enough to trade a 25 year old Prior for a 30+ expensive Abreu. I'd be surprised if the Phillies would do that deal right now. I like Prior and when he pitches, he is pretty good. He hasn't been great since 2003 though and has played less and less. The true failure of the Cubs the last few years has not been because of Hawkins, the lack of a leadoff man or anything else other than injuries to Wood and Prior. Because when you average Wood and Prior's stats with guys like Rusch, Koronka, Mitre, etc. what you get is a couple of overpaid No.3's, not two aces. At least Jim Hendry realized this and picked up some depth this year.
  3. Bobby Abreu Then what are we waiting for?
  4. What's the best we could get for Prior?
  5. Maddux looks straight up gangsta in that pic.
  6. Nice trade, he reminds me of Willie Harris...not a bad player to have around.
  7. He shades the blind eye. Here are two more, one a former Cub. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/srbin84/ph_435278.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/srbin84/ph_424825.jpg
  8. If Prior is out till the allstar break this year, I'd trade him for Cano, yes, because if thats the case, he just hurts the payroll at this point in his career. I dunno, maybe I am just frustrated, I just hate players who don't play like him, Nomar, Wood. And they are all paid so much, it cripples the team. He needs to get it together, pitch hurt, whatever it takes because if he cant pitch a whole season, I hope the Yankees or some stupid team signs him to a Burnett like contract because we don't need guys like that.
  9. NL West: Padres NL Central: Cardinals NL East: Mets NL Wild Card: Cubs AL West: A's AL Central: Indians AL East: Yankees AL Wild Card: Red Sox NLCS: Cubs over Cardinals in 6 ALCS: Indians over A's in 7 World Series: Indians over Cubs in 7
  10. What's so bad about that deal? It would have sounded insane to give Prior for almost anybody a year or two ago, but I'd have to seriously consider a deal for a guy like Cano at this point. At least Cano plays.
  11. I don't think he'll make a full seasons worth of starts. I just think he'll make almost all of his starts, from the end of April through the season. If you call 33 starts a full season, then take off 5 starts for April. Now you're at 28, and I think he can make 25 or so. If he makes 25 or more starts, I'll buy your premium membership for a year and if not, you buy it for me.
  12. Brownlie stinks. We'd be lucky to get Phillips for him.
  13. Wanna make a wager on that?
  14. I'm in my early 20's, so I'll just include the players I've seen and liked (rules out pretty much the whole 90's for the Cubs) then do an all time legends list of players I liked. Cubs 1. Sammy Sosa 2. Carlos Zambrano 3. Aramis Ramirez 4. Ryne Sandberg 5. Juan Cruz Non-Cubs during my lifetime 1. Pedro Martinez 2. Bo Jackson 3. Mo Vaughn 4. Doc Gooden 5. Manny Ramirez Legends: 1. Babe Ruth 2. Fergie Jenkins 3. Ty Cobb 4. Carl Yastrzemski 5. Pete Rose
  15. Agreed. I'd much rather give guys like Marshall, Sing and Pagan a chance, even though they aren't highly regarded prospects, than sign washed up pieces of crap like Estes, Grissom and Lenny Harris. If you give 5 or 6 fringe guys a chance, you have a good chance of finding a diamond in the rough and that's the difference between most of the good team and the bad ones. Look at the Cardinals every year with guys like Bo Hart, Bud Smith, Pauquette. Those guys keep them winning when they need someone.
  16. It seems like Dusty would tell the guys who didn't get it first, so they don't find out from someone else. You know how he is all about protecting his players feelings.
  17. $70,000 a year is more than enough. The mom needs to quit complaining.
  18. I was not high on McClain; however, I was very high on Dubois. My opinions on Dubois had little to do with his spring performance and more to do with the fact that he had hit at every level of the minors, including being MVP of the AFL. Doesn't that suggest that we can't just use minor league numbers to determine whether a rookie should make the team or not and how successful they will be if they make it? McClain and Dubois have both had very good minor league careers but have done nothing in the majors. Here are the last AAA season stats of three players before going to MLB: Player A: 438 AB .279/.347/.772 9 HR 61 RBI 35 SB Player B: 516 AB .271/.333/.738 8 HR 40 RBI 27 SB Player C: 462 AB .292/.373/.797 13 HR 55 RBI 39 SB Actually, those are more anomalies. Comprehensive studies show that minor league numbers are the best way to guage what a player will do in the pros, especially for hitters. They aren't, however, infallible. And if you focus on the outliers, you'll always find exceptions. Then people shouldn't make statements as if they are no anomalies: That is not a possibility, it's a disastrous option. Pagan could start for the team. It would suck and the team would suffer because of it, but he could do it. Ryan Theriot could start at third base if Aramis walks or is injured. Neifi could start at SS. All these things could happen, and they would all suck if they did. If his future role on this team is starter it most likely means Pie is a bust and Hendry fails to field a good OF, again.

  20. In 2004, we had Jason Dubois and in 2003, we had Scott McClain. Both tore it up in spring training and were competing for a spot on the team. To those who have voiced against high predictions for Pagan based on his spring stats, what did you guys think of those two guys at the time.
  21. Then why do they even have competitions for roster spots and starting jobs?
  22. Ok, better example. The Cubs are in first place by one game at the trade deadline. Matt Murton is out for the season. Barry Bonds is available to the Cubs at a cheap price. He's healthy and having another one of his amazing seasons. Bonds has admitted to steroid use, but still hasn't failed a test, and claims he is not on anything now. Would you want him and why or why not?
  23. No there are a lot of players who can bring: 1. a good work ethic 2. a good clubhouse presence 3. a job knowing abilitiy Heck, I'll do that and for the league minimum. What I hope Pierre brings is a +.350 OBP. The rest I could care less about. Exactly. I dont care if he "knows his job" i dont care that he's a "good clubhouse presence". I'll go back to my old standby "Babe ruth and lou gehrig didnt talk for 5 years, yet batted back to back, and things turned out pretty well" Chemistry and all these "intangibles" are bogus. Give me a .350+ OBP out of my leadoff guy and i'll be happy. I take it you guys are big fans of T.O. then. Does he have a +.350 OBP? I'm talking about football. It shouldn't make a difference what sport we are talking about it, what your saying is that on the field production is all the matters and chemistry is a non-factor. Using this school of thought, Owens is the best reciever in football, and you guys would have loved to see your teams get him.
