  1. 1. Furcal has more skills than just speed 2. One stupid deal by one stupid team does not shift an entire market for players. I heard a tidbit a few months ago, I think was a secondhand account of something Beane said, that since all the post-Moneyball hubbabaloo, OBP is starting to get valued properly, and speed is now a skill that is undervalued. It doesn't seem to make sense that he would trade a guy like Bynum if he really believed that.
  2. I like the new lineup and bench and the fact we have a lot of fast guys who can make contact and get on base in a number of different ways. I think that is very valuable, and I really don't care what Alou's OPS is, I'll take Pierre over him any day.
  3. "One time I was with Murton in the back of a pickup truck, along with a live deer. Murton goes up to the deer and says, 'I'm Matt Murton! SAY IT!' Then he manipulates the deer's lips in such a way as to make it say, 'Murton' ... It wasn't exactly like it, but it was pretty good for a deer!'" "He'd eat a homeless person if you dared him!" "His poop is used as currency in Argentina." "He sweats Gatorade" "He once breast-fed a flamingo back to health."
  4. You could actually hear the air being torn.
  5. Well, they probably would have, but Walker already has a double and an RBI, so he's still ahead.
  6. Great start. Everybody on the team feels great already and now it's time for Z to get the pitching off to a great start.
  7. What's a good contract for the Cubs with Lee? I'd say 65/5 is about as high as I'd want to go, maybe a few million more but that's it.
  8. We don't HAVE an office in Joliet. You might be referring to the Joliet Herald, a paper not affiliated with the the Daily Herald, whose offices are neat and clean (from what little I see of them). I don't know; it was the Herald on Caterpillar. If it's not affilitated with the paper you guys are talking about, nevermind; but at the time I was writing stories for them, they were in dire need of staff replacement. I really don't care if the office of a newspaper is a mess or not, I've worked with enough to know to expect it. I was working with about four or five people, and one of them was very good all the way around, but others had trouble with grammar and spelling, finding things and getting stories in by deadline. When somebody writes a story and all you have to do is edit it, the result should never be that you tried to edit it, made incorrect changes and subsequently lost it. That happened to me TWICE. After that happened, I dedided to use their access a couple times for stories I wanted to do and then I cut ties. It was too much of a headache for me. I did get to go to Bulls media day, a Green Day concert and interview Kris Honel of the White Sox (whatever happened to that guy) before I left, haha. I guess I got payed back for the crap I put up with in the end.
  9. You'll rarely see a clean, orderly newspaper office. Most dailies I've seen are dumps. Yeah, I was talking about the people in the office too. I was constantly correcting them on grammar to make sure they didn't butcher my stories.
  10. I used to do some writing for the Herald and from what I saw, their office in Joliet is an absolute mess.
  11. True. True. :D I think the Angels are a good match in that respect with Kendrick/Aybar(move from SS to 2B) and Mathis with some other players. Aybar is blocked by Wood anyway, if not Orlando Cabrera. Willingham might be pretty solid offensively, but his D is horrible, so they definitely need a decent game caller behind the dish like you said, with offensive potential. I think I was pretty much right on. They need a 2B, C, since Willingham will likely be moved to another position in time and the Marlins, like the other 29 teams, need top pitching prospects. I think you will see that the current Marlins pitching prospects who are in the rotation are not what some seem to think they are.
  12. This is a terrible move. A very bad contract and all of their starters are locked up which means McCarthy is locked out. What is Williams thinking?

  14. What do the Marlins need two more outfielders for? They need a frontline 2B prospect, pitching and possibly a catcher.
  15. Well, if that's the case, Aardsma was even more impressive, hitting 95-97 consistantly.
  16. P Justin Berg The odds of that guy ever reaching the majors are about 1 in a million.
  17. The Cubs were using as a starter for a few games in the minors last year. He started 3 games, and relieved in 30. I know.
  18. The Cubs were using as a starter for a few games in the minors last year.
  19. I would think Ardasma and his 99mph fastball and knucklecurve. If Aardsma has hit 99, that's news. From the reports I've seen, he has worked mainly in the low 90's this spring (91-94) and has occasionally pumped it up to 96-97. That's fantastic, because last year he was missing that kind of oomph. Also, I believe his secondary pitch is a slider. I remember reading an interview with him last year after the trade where he talked about everything being about the slider and making it as sharp as it was in college. I could be mistaken about that one, though. It's a knucklecurve.
  20. I think I'm gonna go practice throwing some balls left handed in my back yard tomorrow.
