  1. I'd take Renteria and his salary off their hands and give them Cedeno and Guzman or Hill. It makes sense if we're trying to win now. Stripping 10 mil salary for this year and over 20 next year for those two plus getting 2 very good prospects makes a lot of sense for Atlanta. I'd be flexible on the prospects to get the deal done too, if it took Pie too, fine. They can find other guys in free agency and address the positions they want with their money, or they can just play their young players and rebuild. SS Renteria 2B Walker (if we have him back) 1B Lee CF A. Jones 3B Ramirez RF J. Jones C Barrett LF Murton
  2. Though he did speak up enough to say he thought he was a "#6 type hitter"...and oh, how we and the local press mocked. Curses! He's a No. 2 hitter now.
  3. Stop blaming our coaching staff then! That's been the point since the beginning. Don't make it sound like Elia made him a better line drive hitter when his SLG percentage, which isn't even that great now, is even lower when you take out his bunt hits....let alone his infield hits (which he has quite a few of this year). OK, this is getting ridiculous. How hard is it to my point? I can't stand watching you all say the above when it's just not true. I don't like Hendry, Baker or any of the other coaches and want them gone, but it's ignorant to make statements defaming them and giving others false praise when it's all a bunch of bologna.
  4. I don't think nearly 20% of his hits last year were bunt singles.
  5. But if you take away his bunt hits....ah forget it. Not liking it doesn't make it go away corey's numbers aren't the only thing that's true of Sorry for pointing out the truths some people can't/don't want to accept. I think Dobson's statistics pretty much debunked your whole premise. But if you want to keep thinking that Patterson's renaissance is only due to bunt hits, go right ahead. It makes about as much sense as your claim that it has helped his SLG%. Believe it or not, singles calculate into SLG% too. Take Corey's bunt hits/attempts out and his SLG goes down.

  7. But if you take away his bunt hits....ah forget it. Not liking it doesn't make it go away...ah forget it, Patterson for MVP and Prior for Cy Young because we like them so much.
  8. Finally the Bulls got a good big man, and it couldn't be a better player at a better time. He's a perfect fit for the Bulls. Unquestionably the best defensive team in the NBA now with Wallace plus our two picks. I've enjoyed watching this Bulls team come together. It's been a very LONG road, but I think we're ready to start competing for titles again.
  9. false. Look at Patterson's numbers when he isn't bunting for a base hit. Awful. What's the point? What does it prove? It proves he has a horrible batting average when you take away his hits. This is the last post I'm going to make on the subject in this thread, but yes, that's it. Plus, OBP and SLG.
  10. that's not true. 2004-2006 LD%: 2004: 19.1% 2005: 17.7% 2006: 22.0% his HR/F is also higher this year: 2004: 12.5% 2005: 10.7% 2006: 12.8% THT It's probably even more exaggerated now, but I calculated his numbers minus his bunt hits and bunt hit attempts, and the numbers weren't pretty. A large portion of his hits this year are bunt singles. A smaller separate portion are infield singles (speed). He's basically Juan Pierre with a little more power.
  11. Don't forget "I can do your job, but you can't do mine so stop criticizing me"
  12. I can agree with that.
  13. Come on now, not many people in the big leagues are smaller than Z. Agreed. Z is above all laws of human genetics. Little known fact-he's also immortal, and he killed Bill Brasky with his bare hands.
  14. false. Look at Patterson's numbers when he isn't bunting for a base hit. Awful. What's the point? What does it prove? I think of hitting and bunting as two completely different things. If you look at Patterson's improved AVG., OBP, and SLG, it's much more to do with his improved bunting than improved hitting because the hitting hasn't improved much. He's bunting more and more successful when attempts to do so. As far as I remember, the Cubs wanted him to bunt more. For whatever reason, he didn't do it as much and as well at the same time as he is doing now. It's not all the Cubs coaches fault like people make it out to be, unless you are making the argument that the Cubs didn't want Corey to bunt as much as he is now. Crediting an improved ability to hit line drives and such for his better numbers is just flat out false.
  15. I remember a very deserving pitcher in 1998 who got shafted too. Instead, that team, which was a winning one BTW, had one rep., who was injured.
  16. David Ross: .320-12-28, .395/.708/1.104 You forgot 109 At-Bats. If Ross had 100 more ABs so far, Johnny Bench would be saying bye-bye to quite a few single season records. I still think Ross has an outside chance of doing that anyway though. We'll see if he can keep it up.
  17. Why can't we argue with the fans' choice? Lo Duca is one of the worst all-star selections in recent memory. He's probably not the best catcher on the Mets. The media created Paul Lo Duca, All-Star with their incessant fawning about him being the Heart and Soul of the Dodgers. A bunch of crap. I'd trade Lo Duca for Brad Penny (the number 6 pitcher in MLB by VORP, right behind Carlos Zambrano) any day of the week. To think the stupid LA sportswriters criticized the trade. :x You should have got more people to vote for Barrett then. I agree with the other poster; the debate is between McCann and Barrett. IMO though, Ross is more deserving than Barrett. Ross has the better numbers but, Barrett has 208 at bats while Ross only has 110 at bats. That is a pretty big leap. I know, but since Ross is putting up Bonds like numbers, I give him the benefit of the doubt. He's leading the NL in homers for catchers.
  18. Who else did they fire other than ole sawed off as I believe Mike Murphy used to call him?

IMO though, Ross is more deserving than Barrett. Nowhere do I argue that Barrett should be an all-star, so why should I have "got [sic] more people" to vote for him? Lo Duca is a joke as an all-star. Yes, Ross is more deserving, and so are half the catchers in the NL. There are ten catchers in the NL who have been better than Lo Duca offensively this year, and Lo Duca has been very below average defensively this season. The Mets are a very good team, but Jose Valentin has had more to do with their success than Paul Lo Duca. There are other catchers having better years who deserve to be there in Lo Duca's place, but the fans voted him in. He isn't as bad as you say though. I mean, at least he has a respectable avg and OBP for his posistion. He's not deserving of an all-star spot, but I've seen worse. Nevertheless, if it's based on who deserves it, McCann is starting and Ross is backup.
  20. Just Ozzie being Ozzie.
  21. I've never met Murton. He just looks smaller than guys like Z and Ramirez. It seems like he could get bigger, even eating more as well.
  22. false. Look at Patterson's numbers when he isn't bunting for a base hit. Awful.
  23. The Cubs need to get Murton in the weight room. Even if he doesn't take anything, he'll have more power next year.

  25. Again, the Cubs tried to get CPatt to bunt for base hits, but it just didn't work. They even brougth in Vince Coleman to work with him. Baltimore tried and it worked. That's the difference between Patterson last year and this year.
