  1. Why would we play Bynum in RF over Hairston?
  2. I'd like to see Z/Zito/Maddux/Prior and the best of Guzman/Hill/Ryu next year.
  3. Yeah, I agree. What's with the Murton trashing that people have been doing around here since he came up last year? All the talk about him getting lucky hits and such. Much worse players have gotten much more support. I don't understand what makes Murton different.
  4. By Cubs standards, Grace was a superstar even though by MLB standards he was just an above average 1B.
  5. I'd much rather have Cedeno in the two hole than Murton. Murton is a great No. 5 hitter.
  6. Man, there are a lot of short people around here, not that there's anything wrong with that. I guess I'm batting cleanup, haha. P.S.- Chicagoland posters should get together this summer and play a game.
  7. I agree. One superstar player is not a substitute for a quality team of players. Felix is good, but we would be mortgaging the teams future. To further put in perspective, we'd be giving up a pretty good reliever, plus the #1, 2, 4, 5, and 7 prospects in our system(BA rankings). I definately don't think you should trade 5 of your best young prospects for a player that is only going to take the field once out of every five days. I could maybe see doing it with a position player like Pujols, MAYBE. But that had better be one hell of a player. Also you have to consider the injury risk. If your one star player gets injured, you're screwed. Whereas if you keep those five prospect and one gets injured, you still have the other four. In baseball, one player doesn't win you a championship. The same goes for football. However, if this was basketball, then it might be worth it since one player can completely change a franchise (re: Michael Jordan). I bet the odds are fairly good that one of those five players will make multiple All Star games in his career and another could make one or two. Throw in an average everyday player, and have the other two washout, and that is still three players that make contributions to your team. So like I said, I would maybe do it for a position player but I would never make that trade for any pitcher. Unless he's going to make 70-80 starts in a year and throw 450 innings. Then I would consider it. But I highly doubt we'll ever see another pitcher like that. I see that as the best case scenerio, not a given. I also see Felix Hernandez making multiple all star games as a given.
  8. Well, I was also thinking about using Wood in that situation and start Z in Game 7.

As it stands now (and for the past week or so), the Bulls second pick would be at 16, not 12 like it is in that draft. While we're at it, how does Portland have the 1st pick? Must be a clerical error over there. Portland has the worst record.
  10. I remember, Veres gave up a hit a to the other Gonzo with men on. I do remember being very mad about not putting in Z for Prior in Game 6. Once game 6 was over, I never felt like we had a chance. It felt like the series was over and we had lost. I watched game 7, but I wasn't really disapointed by the outcome because I had expected it. When it was clear Wood didn't have it, I didn't see how we were going to stop them.
  11. I don't understand the Veres comments. From what I remember, Wood and Farnsworth lost Game 7 by having quite possibly their worst outings of the season.
  12. Looking good.
  13. Just can't resist, can you? Very original. It's about as shocking as seeing McGwire attacks on a Cub board, wouldn't you say? You're on a Cubs board and complaining about attacks on McGwire? I'm sure no one ever attacks Sosa or Zambrano on a Cardinal forum do they? Let's not talk about the past.

    1. Thomas 2. Aldridge 3. Bargnani 4. Morrison 5. Roy I am fine with Thomas, Aldridge or Roy for the Bulls.
  15. AT&T Park is one of, if not the, worst home run park in all of baseball. Alou did not hit 20 last year, Bonds is well over 40 and juice-less now (presumably), Niekro is in his first season as a starter, and Feliz is a supersub pressed into starting duty. Bonds did pretty well in spring training though. I think more than half of his hits were home runs. Feliz is a consistent 20 hr guy. Alou actually has 3 of the 4, so he is doing well.
  16. Yeah, and I wouldn't doubt if certain games were played with the juiced ball and others without. S.F. Giants.-30th in home runs It's not like they don't have any power hitters at all either. Bonds, Niekro, Alou, Feliz...
  17. I think they already have a mess. Izzy, Looper and Wainwright are pretty decent. I'd probably take Izzy or Wainwright over Wuertz. I dont think anyone else could crack our pen though.

  19. srbin84 scouting report 6'2" 210 lbs. All or nothing power hitter, below average arm. Compares to Rob Deer. I'll take left field, haha.
  20. Not entirely true. Pierre clearly distracts pitchers when he is on base. The less focussed a pitcher is on the hitter, the better the hitter's chances of getting a pitch he can hit, including homeruns. Those stolen bases may have affected the pitcher, the pitches that are thrown (don't want to throw a slider in the dirt with Pierre on third), etc... Can you prove this? Look at each time Pierre has been on base and see what the results are. It shouldn't be that hard since he's only been on base 8 times this year. Can you disprove it? Can anyone realistically say that pitchers and players on defense are not more concerned when a speedy guy like Pierre is on first base compared to slower players like Ramirez? No one is saying Pierre is always a distraction that improves the hitters behind him, but merely pointing out that his speed can make a difference (relative to other players) when he is on base. In other words, his speed can be a positive factor for those hitting behind him. Part 1 Part 2 This has been studied and quantified. At best the "disruptive" effect amounts to no more than a couple runs a season for even the most prolific of base stealers. That's about the same value derived by talking 5-6 walks. Wouldn't that equate to about .010 of OBP. That seems significant.
  21. Looked like Pagan showed good range on gamecast, haha.
  22. Well, I'm not old, I just evaluate things based on a combination of stats and what I see on the field. Only going by one is stupid.
  23. Z looked like [expletive]. Judging by his body loanguage I'd say he backed out a long time ago. Not quite what I asked, but thanks. All in all, it wasn't that bad of an outing. It wasn't good, but I've see worse in just the last few games.
