  1. I don't care that it's early, you don't scrap this team at 9-5 and an easily attainable wildcard this year if Lee is out for a couple months. Go get Durazo or something.
  2. Pierre was the difference offensively tonight. Hopefully Lee is back soon.
  3. I'd rather have the young guy, even if it was the other way around and we had Carp.
  4. Mabry batting 5th is a Dusty gut feeling move. Watch, he'll get two hits.
  5. Why not Williamson???
  6. We need a big performance from Marshall to even have a chance against Penny, but John Koronka did it in L.A. last year, so you never know.
  7. I wouldn't have minded seeing Lee a spot or two higher, but I think Z was that high because of his ability to stay healthy, which is invaluable for a pitcher. You're not considered the 11th best player in the league because you can stay healthy. He's the 3rd highest ranked pitcher on the list. All of these pitchers come before Zambrano if I am starting a team: - Jo. Santana - C. Carpenter - J. Peavy - R. Oswalt - D. Willis - J. Beckett Ben Sheets would have been on my list, but he just can't stay healthy. And I'll gamble with Beckett. Santana, maybe. Peavy and Oswalt are about equal to Z. I wouldn't pick any of the rest though. Carp and Beckett have bad injury history. Carp is the reigning Cy Young winner...he's on the list. The injury thing may be a concern for some...fair enough, but I'll take my chances...same with Beckett. And just because Zambrano hasn't gotten hurt yet, he's overweight and more susceptible to injury...so you could figure that in as well. On a side note, Zambrano could cost you a handfull of games each year due to meltdowns. If you figure injuries into the equation (missing a handfull of games a season), meltdowns could be figured in too. I'm not saying I wouldn't want him on my team, but man...3rd most valuable pitcher in the majors right now? I don't see that at all. Zambrano is 24 years old, Oswalt is 28 (and said he will retire early), Carpenter is 30 and just started being good 2 years ago, Beckett is similar age at 25 but he has never even pitched 180 innings. Z goes over 220 no problem, no injuries.
  8. I would have to say that Gagne's save streak and Hershiser's scoreless innings streaks are better than DiMaggio's hit streak. A hitter generally gets four plate appearances per game, i.e. four chances to get a hit. For a pitcher, one bad pitch and your streak is over, whether that is scorless innings or consecutive saves. I would say that the scoreless innings streak is even better than the consecutive saves streak because depending on the opportunity, you can give up a run or two and still get a save. You don't get that chance for the scoreless innings streak. But they are all quite impressive. Agreed. I'm saying Dempster has a looooonnnnng way to go.
  9. I dunno, I remember Alou being upset that he didn't even get a call from Hendry or any courtesy interest even though they knew they weren't bringing him back. I was disappointed we didn't bring Alou back. He definately would have helped last year. Probably wouldn't have got us to the playoffs, but definately would have helped. You're right. Having Alou last year and this year would have been way better than Burntiz and Jones, and we could move on after this year too, not be stuck.

  11. Gagne's save streak is like the hit streak.
  12. I was mad Williamson wasn't in for the 9th. That being said, Ohman looked pretty good, Lofton just beat us with his speed once he got on.

  14. He is? Why? Because he hits more homers? They are very similar in their hitting capacity with Dunn having more pure power and Bay being able to hit at a higher clip. That doesn't even take into consideration Bay's large advantage in defense and speed. If nothing else, Dunn has the potential to improve his batting average and become the best hitter in the game. He doesn't have a lot of baseball experience.
  15. BTW, I'd like to see the Cubs win the bidding war for the Matsuzaka if he ever comes here.
  16. Dunn is a better offensive player. He has as much legit power as anyone in baseball and is a left handed hitter.
  17. Let's just focus on healthy players.
  18. Positional scarcity should be a factor. A SS with an .800 OPS is worth a lot more than a LF with an .800 OPS. True.
  19. Yeah, it is kind of watered down if it is a Yankees player.
  20. Jeter this year salary over last year OPS = 24,500K per OPS point Manny=18,600K Beltre=18,000K
  21. I suppose for offensive players, you could just divide their salary by their OPS, the higher the resulting number, the worse.
  22. Hmm. You haven't studied how Odalis does in even years, I see. He very well could be worth every penny of his 9m if he pitches this year like he has in all of his previous "even" years. Odalis has only had 1 bad outing out of 3 so far. In his last 12+ innings, he's given up 2 runs. .071 WHIP in his last outing. So he's on the Trachsel/Farnsworth career track then.
  23. Manny is a great player though. He has a bad contract, but not as bad of a ratio as others IMO.
  24. Edgardo Alfonzo, .672 OPS 2 HRS 43 RBI last year, 8 million this year.
  25. Well, let's not consider health then, just performance.
