  1. Money. Olerud? Hairston could play second and outproduce him.
  2. Klesko is out till the allstar game.
  3. Cabrera was going to cost more than we could have given BEFORE Lee went down. What makes you think thhat now that Lee is hurt, his cost would be equal? Also, Cabrera can't play 1B. He's a 3B. His proposal is too light, but Cabrera plays 3B, Ramirez 1B, then Cabrera moves to RF. When has Ramirez ever played 1B? It's not like he's a utility guy or something. He's nearly a liability at 3B, so I can't see him being worse at the easier position. Cabrera is a pretty solid at 3B so that would be a temporary improvement.

  5. Prior has started 48 games over the last two years. He's missed a lot of starts. Maybe around 16 or so? Miguel Cabrera has missed a grand total of 6 games over the last two years. Prospect-wise, Hanley and Pie are right around the same (top 20-30 prospect in the game), but Cabrera is Pujols II... while Prior certainly has that type of potential (to be one of the best players of this era), he is way too big of a question mark. I really don't think the Cubs have what it takes to get Cabrera. You're looking at a team like the Diamondbacks or the Angels with absolutely loaded systems if you wanna see a team make a run at Miguel. What about Prior and Guzman or Hill for Teixeira? Would Texas go for it? what are we going to do when Lee comes back? It's not like he has a career ending injury. Tex can play outfield and we need one anyway. He won't win any gold gloves but he'll pass.

  7. No chance it happens. Not for Prior and Pie? I agree the Cubs don't have the stones to make the move though. Think about it this way: if the Marlins are willing to move Cabrera, they are willing to move Dontrelle. The reason they would move Dontrelle is because he's going to start making big bucks... something that can also be said for Prior. It doesn't really make sense for the Marlins. You'd have to come up premium, young talent that will stay cheap for years to come. Florida has more needs though. Pie is premium, young talent IMO. With all the big teams looking for pitching, imagine would Florida could get for Prior once he gets rolling? I think you add that to Pie and it would be a better package that they could get from anyone else for Cabrera.

  9. I think Pie and Prior could get either of those right now. Why would you deal Prior to a team trying to keep payroll low (Florida)? You don't deal a guy like Prior within your own division (or Dunn). That doesn't help our team. At best we come out even. Florida dealt for Piazza in the same situation. They could just wait for Prior to get hot and trade him for something else this year if they wanted.
  10. You don't think they would do it for Prior and Pie? Thats not a crazy move, the major league team loses only the potential of what those two could do. They could both fail to meet expectations too. Dunn or Cabrera are consistent and healthy offensive forces. This team would have the best offense in the NL when Lee comes back.
  11. I think Pie and Prior could get either of those right now. let's not get crazy. Think about how good those guys are though.

  13. Try him in LF with Murton in RF. People who have seen the Royals play can correct me, but I had the feeling that Sweeney was on his way to DHing, let alone moving to a more rigorous defensive position than first base. Well, it would just be for the rest of this season. You know he would do anything he could to improve since he'd finally be playing for a contending team. If he really bad, you could just put Lee in the outfield and he'd probably even be a slightly above average OF and has the range. Worst case, we dump him on the Yankees whenever we are done with him.
  14. Huff isn't even starting material. Clark would be ok. Sweeney is who I would want the most from that list. I'm not sure Sweeney is worth 12.5 mil per season for the next 2 years. No, he def. isn't. The Cubs would just need to take the hit. There is some extra payroll for in season moves.

  17. I think that's a good idea, to put Murton or Jones at first and call up Pie, at least while we look for someone. It's much better than calling up Sing to start IMO.
  18. If you want to blame someone, it'd be better to go after Furcal for running 2' inside the line. Not signing Furcal looks even worse now. Nobody could have predicted this obviously, but it wouldn't have happened if we had him. That's a ridiculous outlook. You can't blame this injury on not signing Furcal. Seriously, that's a really silly statement. How exactly are the two related? It's as valid to say that this injury wouldn't have happened if just about any event occurred. Hindsight is always 20/20, but this is ridiculous and annoying Monday morning quarterbacking. I'm not, I'm just pointing out a meaningless fact.
  19. Sure offensively...but how many errors does he save on D? It seems like 1 out of every 3 throws by Ramirez is in the dirt. Can Todd Walker handle that? Unless we get Pena, I think we'll just have to suffer with worse D at first.

  21. Lee is our best player, but there is no position on the field easier to find a good offensive player quickly than 1B. We'd be in worse shape if this was Ramirez.
  22. Clark is fine, just no Dmitri Young.
  23. Wood should be back this month. You never know with Prior. Let's see what the Cubs say about Lee.
  24. Players on that list who have matched Prior's '03: Santana Peavy Well, whaddaya know..... Years ago 2003 was: Three. You can't just look at the best of a pitcher when it wasn't even recent. The last two years, I'd compare Prior to Bronson Arroyo.
