  1. Keith Foulke, 5.91 ERA last year, approx. 8 million this year.
  2. Mussina had a 4.41 ERA last year and is getting 19 million.
  3. Odalis Perez had a 4.56 ERA in 109 IP and is getting almost 9 million this year.
  4. Jason Kendall is bad too. .666 OPS 0 Hrs last year and he is making 11.5 million.
  5. I'd say Bonds is worse after hardily even playing last year and sucking this year.
  6. Kind of a spinoff from the worst trade thread. Which player in the league this year is the most overpaid. Not necessarily the highest paid, just the the one with worst ratio of production to paycheck.
  7. I wouldn't put it past Colletti to overpay for and sign Maddux simply out of spite.
  8. It's not the Cubs fault? They didn't try to get him at all. I don't know about fault, but the Cubs are at least partially responsible for him not being here. More importantly, they are entirely responsible for the sad state of their outfield. He signed for 30 mil/3 years with his hometown team that he never wanted to leave. How much more do you think it would have taken for him to change his mind and come to Chicago? He's 35 years old too. I believe the Blue Jays and maybe even the Yankees offered him more money and he turned it down.
  9. It would be nice to get a great all around player like Guillen. I think Washington is making a mistake if they do a Marlins/Expos like youth movement in D.C.
  10. Anyone have ESPN insider? There is an article about Maddux possibly going to L.A.
  11. Gullen is a free agent at the end of the year on a team that isn't going to contend. He'll be a trade target at the deadline...maybe sooner if Bowden is canned. Are they talking to him about a new contract?
  12. If Griffey were to never play again, would he get in the Hall of Fame on the first ballot?
  13. People need to put the Giles thing to rest. It's not the Cubs fault he didn't come here. If paying him a lot more than he got would have brought him here, it wouldn't have been worth it anyway.
  14. Guillen is their star player and Robinson's favorite. I don't see him getting dealt, not cheaply anyway.
  15. I heard that interview today.
  16. I don't have a problem with Cedeno getting a night off. Plus, it's a good choice to do it on a Zambrano start because he falls apart after errors and needs a good game and hopefully a win this start.
  17. Please show me the #'s that somehow equate Zito to Randy Johnson. And, as for his playoff #'s - small sample size? Anyone? No thank you to mediocre, expensive starters. Johnson had a career ERA of 3.46 at the time of the trade, Zito has a career ERA of 3.50.
  18. He drank Jobu's rum.
  19. Even if you think Zito isn't as good as his early career numbers and the league just caught up to him to an extent, he'd still probably be a Randy Johnson Astros type acquistion since we are in the NL, especially with all of the left hitters in our division. Of course it didn't work out for Houston because the Astros stunk in the playoffs. Zito has very good playoff numbers. I'd hate to give up a Garcia and Guillen for him, but I don't see Williams having a career like Garcia's and it wouldn't be the worst thing to make a move to go for the world series even if it is short sighted.
  20. His ERA is 3.01 career currently for those curious. If Maddux has an ERA below 3 in two or more seasons, I think he would win 18-22 in one of them, especially if they are both with this pen. The writers will automatically give him the Cy save some record breaking type performance by someone else.
  21. But what if Koronka threw 400 innings? If they are the most important stat, and he had that many, that would mean he's the best pitcher right? Do you suggest handing out Cy Youngs based on innings pitched? No, good pitchers who deserve a spot in the rotation qualify. A guy who puts up a 2.00 ERA, but only makes 17 starts a year because of injuries and is replaced by piles of crap that get a 8 ERA in the other 17 is not a player worthy having unless you have high end major league arms in the minors. So, for example, you'd rather have a 2004 Shawn Estes than a 2001 Pedro Martinez? It all depends on who is replacing them. If the numbers show that Pedro+ his replacements have worse numbers than Estes, you can't ingore it. I'd probably rather have Pedro just so I could be less frustrated with the team, but I know the team would be worse for it.
  22. That was great. I don't understand Japanese but somehow also enjoyed the description as well.
  23. That picture is photoshopped. Really, I didn't know that. Did anyone ask him about the eyeliner?
  24. Whatever, he still still sucks. Has he ever explained that strange picture of him groping his teamate at home plate?
  25. Innings are the most important stat. Nothing hurts a team more than having Koronkas pitch for them. In '04 the Cubs had Rusch and Mitre pitch when Wood and Prior were hurt. BP isn't loading for some reason, but I'm going to venture they had a positive VORP since they combined for a 4.44 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP as starters. '05 is harder to figure because there's a rotation spot open even if both were healthy. Dempster, Williams, Rusch, Mitre, Hill, Koronka, and Leicester all started games, combining for a 4.97 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP. Not that great, but probably not below Replacement Level. Well, you ask yourself which pitchers would occupy that spot if they both were healthy. Hill and Koronka played only because of those injuries, no question. I think Dusty said he put Dempster in the rotation because of the injuries at the start of the year, so add those. I think that leaves a few more, one or two each from Williams, Rusch and Mitre.
