  1. Murph brought up the Pie idea, both agreed neither Jones nor Murton could play first. Too bad Ozzie isnt our manager.
  2. What's the strategy for when Lee is back? He moves to the outfield, he's played there a little with the Rangers.
  3. Yes, I am sure Texas would be thrilled to trade a 25 year old stud who put up the 7th best OPS+ in the AL last year, for a major leaguer who can't stay healthy, plus either a minor leaguer who can't stay healthy, or a minor leaguer who might make it as a 4th starter. There may not be enough alcohol in the world to get Jon Daniels to consider that deal. Throw in Pie and Epatt, I don't care. Which is why it is a pretty good thing that you are not the GM. Sometimes you have to give a lot and get a young superstar like Teixera. That's never a bad move. It's a strategy that has the won the Cards a lot of division titles in recent years.
  4. I asked myself the same questions about Koronka last year. Koronka was a bad player last year. Bynum is this year. Somehow they see value in crap.
  5. He was 6-4 with a 3.89 ERA post all star break last year. How in the world is that "really bad"? He was coming off a broken freaking elbow, and came back as good as any reasonable person could expect. That's not really bad. It's about No.3/4 starter quality. He's probably just frustrated that in addition to that, Prior had a 4.02 ERA the year before. That's cause for concern for a guy who was once one of the better pitchers in the league. Number of NL starters with an ERA below 3.89 last year: 24 That must be quite the pitching staff for it to be 3/4 starter quality. Any contending team who has a No.2 starter with an ERA around 4 has problems. First of all, using ERA as a black and white determinant is pretty crazy. FWIW, Prior's ERA all of last year was 3.67 Secondly, there are 16 teams in the NL, and Prior's marks(no pun intended) put him 19th ERA. He was 14th in WHIP, 12th in K/BB, 1st(by quite a bit) in K/9, 11th in Quality Start %, 5th in BAA, 9th in OBP against, and 12th in OPS against. If anything, he was a borderline number 1 starter last year. We're talking about the last two years. His combined numbers been far from Ace quality.
  6. He signed a very inexpensive contract with the Dbacks (I believe two years at only $1 million per year). At that price I'd be surprised if they don't keep him even if only as insurance against their own injury problems. They'd know that they could suffer key injuries just like anybody else, and at the cost I'd think they'd keep Clark. If that's the case, I think we need to offer them something mildly enticing to get it done because Clark seems like the perfect option. Maybe Marmol or Pignatiello and Theriot? If Hendry makes a move for a first baseman, it will be for a guy that can play another position and thereby still have value once D. Lee returns. Clark is not capable of playing another position. But he makes less than some of our backups now, it wouldn't matter if he jjust came off the bench after Lee came back, and he would arguably be the best bat off the bench in the division.
  7. Barrett?? When he's hot, yeah, but I don't think he is consistent enough to bat cleanup everyday. Even so, Blanco will be in there sometimes.
  8. If we were going to go after a big money player to help this team, I wouldn't choose Clemens because I think it is a little risky given his age and layoff.

  10. I'm skeptical that Wood all of the sudden completely changed his mechanics, but I think we will see a big season from Kerry. All reports are that he is healthy as ever, he's had a lot of time to rehab and doesn't even have to make 30 starts now. He's in a contract year, has a big option too, I think we'll see something similar to the 2001 edition of Wood.

  14. I like Walker protecting Ramirez. If someone else is behind him, they won't give him anything to hit and he will K a lot.
  15. I don't see a problem with trading for a 1B and trading him for something else when Lee comes back.
  16. I mentioned it and some thought he couldn't handle first base defensively.
  17. Pierre CF Cedeno SS Ramirez 3B Walker 1B Murton LF Jones RF Barrett C Hairston 2B Pitcher
  18. I don't know how it compares but when Grudz broke his hand, he came back on fire.
  19. Good point.
  20. No excuses. He says that now, but he'll use it and anything else as an excuse if we lose.
  21. What's wrong with Cuban, and is it so bad that his bank account can't compensate for it?
  22. cubs.com Translation: "We're going to get ripped off if we try and trade for a guy 2 weeks into the season when teams know we are in a dire situation, so we'll sit tight until we know how long he's out. Exactly. Hendry's NOT a dumbass. He's not going to give up studs in the farm for this. And why are we talking about trading Prior again? ....because he never pitches... But he had a great 2003. \:D/
  23. I'm asking for 2 months of Olerud, not 1.5 seasons. Our options are limited for players available who can play first and be done away with when Lee returns/move to another position. I'm just throwing out a name that I think would work. If he did what he did last year, yeah. I just don't want to trust a player that old. I think it's too risky. Clark would put up his line no prob.
  24. Money. Olerud? Hairston could play second and outproduce him. .289/.344/.451 in 173 at bats last season. i doubt hairston puts up that line. I know, and I doubt Olerud does too. That has Gaetti part 2 written all over it , and I'm talking about 99, not 98.
